Aug 8, 2010I'm using a dataview and bind it to data grid view. Currently my data is shown nicely at data grid view, and I successfully added filter: itemDataView.RowFilter = "item_id LIKE '" & Me.txtItem_ID.Text & while itemDataView is my dataview, and txtItem_ID is a text box to allow my users entering filter parameter.
This code runs nicely, but the problem occurs when a user enter special character(s) like an apostrophe (single quote " ' ") or an opening square bracket " [ ". Is there any way so that I can escape this characters? Currently I'm replacing each one of them using text.Replace()

On my form I have a "Combobox1" that pulls a list from an access table. I also have a "DataGridView1" that pulls data from another access table.
I am trying to set the "DataSource" property of the "DataGridView1" after clicking a button, which pulls the "Text" property from the "ComboBox1".
ComboBox1.Text will always equal DataGridView1.DataSource as a text string.
I researched the Get/Set command, but it does not make sense to my specific application. I have read countless articles online for weeks, but I have now taken the next step.

Dec 26, 2008I am using Visual Basic 2008, and SQL Server 2005. I have a single-user client-server app (i know that sounds stupid, but its for future expandibility and also the fact that documentation was easier to find for SQL server than Access files).The app is basically a medicals records system.
In one of the tables, called 'visits', it stores the dates on which each patient visits the doctor, among other things like symptoms and diagnosis. Another table stores all the patient names and IDs along with other details, and a relation has been set up between the patient ID in the patients table and the visits table. So i dragged the visits table from within the patients table (to get only the visits for that particular patient), and dragged it onto the form to make a datagridview. However, the datagridview didn't seem to recognise MS SQL server's smalldatetime format, and tried representing it as a picture. When i changed the format of the column to text boxes, it gave me a type mismatch error (Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'VisitDate' of DateTime and the DataColumn 'VisitDate' of Byte[].) That means, for some reason, it is trying to convert the smalldatetime data to byte before it shows it, which is leading to the error. How do i fix this?
Also, I remember seeing some option for using completely custom column types in the datagridview, but i cant seem to find it now. The options in 'Edit Columns' are very limited, but i would like to set it to a masked text box, or something with a fixed format. Can someone recommend a good column type for representing dates, and how to make the datagridview show that kinda column?

I also want to setup a query in the query builder which will search the database according to the ID but i cant get it right i dont know why. i type in the form filter this: LIKE @ID + '%'. But when i click somewhere else, an error appears which says: Data type error in expression.

Apr 20, 2009i am using a webbrowser to view folder files. if it's possible, i'd like to add the view settings (thumbnails, tiles, icons, list, details) to button commands. if it's not possible for the webbrowser, i could still use the information for a folderbrowserdialog, or such.

C# - SQL To Filter A SubSet Of Data?
Jun 2, 2010I have an arraylist that holds a subset of names found in my database. I need to write a query to get a count of the people in the arraylist for certain sections i.e. There is a field "City" in my database from the people in the arraylist of names I want to know how many of them live in Chicago, how many live in New York etc.
how I might set up an sql statement to handle this. I think somehow I have to pass the subset of names to sql somehow.
Here is a sample how I am writing my sql in my code

I need a way to create a function using your sql statement to return a datatable object of names and the parameters would be city, and the List of names.
The above example isnt the sql I am looking for its just a skeleton of what the function would look like that I want to create.
So then you would use the function by iterating through all the cities passing in the same set of names each time in the fron end.

Jan 20, 2011I have an idea, but i am not sure how to implement it with code.I have an application where a user can view current bookings for rooms.I have two datagridview controls, the first one shows the rooms and the second shows all my current bookings.What I want to be able to do or more the user, is click on a room and the current bookings for that room (datagridview1) to be shown in (datagridview2).What I think I need to do is apply a filter and a sort in a sub routine, then link my tables with a binding source.
