Exporting / Importing Data From / To DataGridView To / From CSV Or Text File

I want to export data from a DataGridView to a CSV/text file. I then also want to be able to load that same CSV/text file and populate that same DataGridView at a later point in time. My information is loaded into columns in the DataGridView. That is, I am not using rows to represent records, I am using columns. As such, I need to load all the data in each column and export this, by column to the CSV/Text file. Likewise, when I load the control from the CSV/text file, I need to load each column with this information. How do you export/import from/to a DataGridView controlHow do you organize the data in the CSV/File

I'm brand new to this forum. i have a question. i wrote some software a while back and now have a few new features I need to implement. this software currently makes use of "application settings" to store all of it's settings. Which works just fine.
I have a client that has about 40 users. He wants to be able to share his settings (that he set up in his copy of the software) with all of users. Preferably by distributing a copy of a config file that they would be able to import into there software.

I have a text file containing ten pieces of information (5 prices and 5 descriptions) I want to load the information from the text file in to the text boxes, so that it can be viewed and edited if required.
I've declared the filename, and various variables, but I'm not sure how to get the info from the file to my form?
filename = CurDir() & "/charges.txt"
Could I use something like this:
fileopen(1, filename, openmode.append)
do while not EOF(1)

This is in vb 2005, and I would like to be able to click a button (i.e. export to excel, import from excel) and do this.If you need any more information then just let me know.
1)How do you export the data that is displayed in a datagrid to Excel.
2)How do you import data from an excel file, and fill the datagrid with that information.

I have a weird situation. I have a C++ code that overloads the +,-,* operators and exports them in a .DLL file. Now, I want to import those overloaded operators from within VB.NET code. So it should be like this:
<DllImport("StructDLL.dll")> Public Shared Function
Operator +(ByVal a1 As A, ByVal a2 As A) As A
End Function
So what I'm trying to do above it just import the lovely overloaded operator + from the DLL.Note that the operator is already overloaded from inside the DLL, so should I import it as a Function or as an Operator like this?
<DllImport("StructDLL.dll")> Public Shared
Operator +(ByVal a1 As A, ByVal a2 As A) As A
End Operator
The overloaded plus operator is supposed to add structs. So the DLL is programmed to work on structs (C++) and I want to import it in VB.NET to work on Structures.

I found some code online that describes how to export from a DataGrid to a CSV file.
It creates strings just fine, but when I go to save it (writeline) it breaks.
First, here's the code.

I've seen a lot of posts over time relating to importing and exporting CSV. Most of the answers involve using TextReader.readline and String.split, which will not work with any but the simplest data. When you are writing for users who have the expectation that your application will work with anything they export from Excel, you will have to cover all the CSV bases.
I hope that this post will give you a clear idea of what you're involving yourself in when you decide you need to read a CSV file. The characteristics of CSV data are:The comma character is used to separate the fields. (This is obvious, but I thought I'd start with a couple of obvious points to warm up) The last field on the line is ended by the end-of-line character or the physical end of the file.Any field that contains commas, double-quotes or control characters will be surrounded by double-quote marks. Any double-quote marks within the field will be "escaped" with an extra double-quote character. For instance, the value Paul "Chuck" Norris would be converted to "Paul ""Chuck"" Norris".After the opening double-quote ANY character is valid. Including line breaks. This is why you can't use readline.I have a parser class that works nicely and I'll post that on this thread in a little while, along with some notes on using it.

I am using Visual Studio 2008 and looking for an efficient and hopefully straightforward approach for exporting data from a DataGridView to Excel. If doable, my preference would be to export the data to Excel without instantiating an Excel application. I found some code on the Microsoft support site that is fairly accessible but the example shows how to export just a few pieces of data. Would someone be able to demonstrate how to modify this code to so that it could be used for large amounts of data (for example, data from a DataGridView).
'Establish a connection to the data source.
Dim sConnectionString As String
sConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & _

What I'm looking for is a snippet on how to export data from a datagridview to an access DB. My other question is fairly simple what code would I use once the data has been entered to account for the addition/subtraction. I know these are fairly
simple questions with probably incredibly easy answers, but once again the first time I've picked up a programing language was a week ago. Hey trial by fire works 70% of the time all the time.

End Sub
Private Sub payrollsubmitButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles payrollsubmitButton.Click

And when two things happen when I try to use this code (which I modified after finding it on another site)
1. Intellisense tells me that MyDataSet is not defined.
2. When I define MyDataSet as
Dim MyDataSet as New Dataset
Intellisense tells me that I'm told that AppendText is not part of String.

I have a problem loading big spreadsheets into a datagridview.
I had a similar code as above that i used and it works great if you have say 10000 cells to populate cell by cell.
How ever moving to 2 mil cells is a different cup of tea, the code took more than 7 minutes to load the data, and although the data was perfect in every way, its too time consuming, i cant get it to work faster so I used the datagrid instead.
The sheets needed to be imported is 350,000 cells plus. I used code that works realy great, does the import into the grid and transfers the data to a datagridview within 15 seconds with little resources which put a smile on my dail :) then i saw something and it dropped ...
see code:
[Code].....
My problem is that whenever there are values below the heading of the cell the datagrid displays (null)
No matter what i do even converting the values in excel to text it does not display the heading of that column.
When i paste other text into the cells below the heading (NOT NUMBERS) it shows the data and heading, Only if the "type" of content is the same does it display both the heading and the text that follows in rows below.

I have a a DGV with the following fields:
FirstName
LastName
Address
Job
StaffNum
Nationality
DOB
Notes
Picture
FileName
Now my DGV has records in it and I try to export it to Excel File. Now it exports the the Column Names above but none of the records. My code is below.
Dim fs As New IO.StreamWriter("C:exported.xls", False)
fs.WriteLine("<?xml version=""1.0""?>")
fs.WriteLine("<?mso-application progid=""Excel.Sheet""?>")
fs.WriteLine("<ss:Workbook xmlns:ss=""urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:spreadsheet"">")
fs.WriteLine("<ss:Styles>")
[Code] .....
I got this code from the MSDN forums from a link someone posted. They said they changed IntCol and it worked to incoude the records as well but I cant figure it out. When I hit Export it does prom,pt me to save the file and saves the Names above to excel sheet but none of the records.

It's used to track stats on games (kills, deaths, assists, etc.) The way I ended up saving it was in a .xls file for the simplicity of being able to edit it in excel as well as my program. how to import the file back into the DataGridView though.
Here's the code I'm using the save the file:

ByVal fileExtension As String, ByVal filePath As String)

I am trying to make part of a form program do the following When I exit a text field, I want to import some datainto a datagridview control. The columns are (1)Key, (2)Location, (3)Part Number, (4)Serial Number, (5)Description.There are up to 1000 rows of data in anyone of the spreadsheets I am working from.By using a datagridview, I can click the header and sort the data by either of the 5 columns, and when I select a data row, the Key number is reported back (for now, into a text box)I will be using the key number to further manipulate the spreadsheet after I have solved this problem. There are thousands of articles on DataGridView, and over the past 8 days, I think I have read them all. I have tried many downloadable routines, which haven't populated the DataGridView at all. Please can someone show me a simple program which will do the above task, and will give me a base to start from.I am running MS Office Pro plus 64-bit on Windows 7 and Visual studio 2010 pro

When the connections is successful (which it does when ran). Button 1 Writes to the text file (which it does successfully). Button 2 deletes the contents of the table and not the table itself (which it does successfully). Last, button 3 is supposed to read the text file and insert each field which is separated by a comma back into the existing table. However, at the "addComm.ExecuteNonQuery()" step I receive an error (An unhandled exception of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException' occurred in system.data.dll). I have spent many hours trying to find a solution but can't seem to get it to rewrite the text file back to the table.[code]...
