View 1 RepliesI'm using this code to read through each line in a textfile, and remove all that starts with a spesific "searchword":[code]But there are chars in the original textfile, that don't display the same in the new file.
View 2 Repliesi know i have to use a loop to get each line of the textbox onto a newline of a textfile but i dont know how to figure out how many lines of text the user has entered into a textbox. I tryed using a try statment to loop until it errors, it seems to work sometimes but other times it only takes half of the textbox and adds it to the textfile. And if atmaweapon reads this, i tryed to make better names for variables. Here is my code,
Code:
Path = ("Meals" & ComboBox1.SelectedItem & "" & TextBox1.Text & ".txt")
File = New System.IO.StreamWriter(Path)
If ComboBox2.SelectedItem = "1" Then
[Code]....
how many line of text there are... im not so shure how good it is to run a loop tell it errors for a textfile, but its the only way i could think of.
I have a txt file, that i want to read into my program. The problem is this:The textfile is a stats file for a game and looks like this:
Code:
ip:port wins username points
ip:port wins username points
ip:port wins username points
ip:port wins username points
ip:port wins username points
etc.
The main thing i want to do is sort these things out and then add to mysql database table that would have these columns:
Code:
ip authid wins username points
So what i wanna do is splitting this textfile data up and then adding everything to a mysql table.
I have written an import routine, that imports a textfile into a database table, using a schema.ini.In the input file, 3 fields are seperated, that should be concatenated in the import-routine. Does anyone know how I can make that happen...Small part of the import-routine, first lines are the last lines of the programatically created schema.ini.
Code:
PrintLine(intFile, "Col11=mededelingen1 Text")
PrintLine(intFile, "Col12=mededelingen2 Text")

I'm making a program which has 7 textboxes. I intend the program to be used for classes in school, so the text would be like 2D Art, Geology etc... whatever your classes are. I have figured out how to use the streamwriter to take the text in the textboxes and write them to a .txt file however, my issue is with loading the text from the .txt file back into the textboxes. I did figure out how to write it so that all the text in the .txt file is loaded back into textbox1 but I have 7 textboxes... Here's the coding for the Load button:
Private Sub Button46_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button46.Click
Dim MainWindowLog As String = "V:Users(O.o)~(--_--)~(o.O)DocumentsVisual Studio

In VB.net I've got the following line that removes all non-alphanumeric chars from a string:
return Regex.Replace(build, "[W]", "")
I now need to extend this to remove non-alphanumeric chars that aren't [] or _. I've changed the line to:
return Regex.Replace(build, "[W[]_]", "")
However I'm pretty sure that this says
replace non-word or [ or ] or _
how do I negate the tests for the [] and _ chars so that it says
replace non-word and not [ and not ] and not _
Some examples:
"[Foo Bar_123456]" => "[FooBar_123456]"
"[Foo Bar_123-456*]" => "[FooBar_123456]"
How to convert or make a cast of a List object typized as a container of chars like
Dim mylist As List(Of Char) = New List(Of Char)(New Char() {"1"c, "2"c})

Years ago when coding with VB6 and earlier, I used a file open command to create, read, and write a file that made it easy to store useful information.I believe it was binary and you wrote/read the data to a specific line in the file. When you opened the file with something like notepad, it just showed random ascii chars. When I needed a line of data, I could specify what line to load it from.
View 2 RepliesI've a very strange problem with the localization and the default language resx file.I can add a string entry in the file with no problem. After moving or resizing any of the object in the form, the default resx file, resets itself and then my entry is deleted.Has anyone had the same problem??Unfortunately I can't attach a test project I made, 'cause of some security policies of my network. This is the list of operations you have to do, in order to replicate the problem:create a new windows form project;add any object (ie button) and then change its text property to "Example";set the form's property Localizable = Trueselect one of the language in the form's Language property;change again the text property to "Example 2";get back to the "(default)" entry of the language property;open the Form1.resx file then add a string entry, finally save it;try to move or resize the object into the form and then open again the Form1.resx file. You'll se the entry just for a while and then the file resets itself.
View 4 RepliesI have a program that looks for a file named 'license.dat' upon startup. The program first checks the directory it's in, and if the license file isn't there, it prompts the user to select the license file with a file browser dialog. I have tested this code and confirmed it working in a number of different OS environments.Recently, I received reports from two users (one in Germany and one in Italy) that the program can't find the license on their computers, even though it is present in the program's directory and they manually selected it with the file browser dialog. The only commonality I'm seeing here is a lack of English OS, but beyond that I'm stumped.This is the code I'm using:
If System.IO.File.Exists(System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory + "license.dat") = False Then

View 1 RepliesCurrently, I am try to get the email addresses that have been saved or stored by the user of the computer. This isn't the emails that the user has sent or received, or the contacts he/she has in his address book. Just simply the email accounts that have been accessed from the computer.I know that there are some locations stored in the registry that have the email account. The email addresses that are used on the current computer. I just can't seem to find them on my computer.I am not sure if the registry is the only place to find it or if it stored on the web browser such as internet explorer or google chrome.
View 1 RepliesI am writing an application that connects to a specific com port. This com port can change depending on how many physical ports are on the PC, and if other USB devices have installed com ports before this one.
I have the communication to the com port all working great, but I need to get the com port description not just the "COM#" which is all I currently get.
I found in the registry where the description is stored but am having trouble doing what I need.
In this key:
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMControlSet001ControlClass{4D36E978-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
there is a varied number of sub keys. The are numbered 0000-NNNN depending on how many ports you have. Inside each of these keys, there are multiple values, although I am only interested in one or 2 of them.
My problem is, that I do not know how to get a list of the subkeys (the 0000-NNNN keys/folders) from the original key I posted. I have looked through a few registry tutorials, and I can view the default value in the listed key, but I could not find how to list the subkeys of the listed key.
Does anyone have any sample code they could share that shows how I can get a listing of subkeys, and then run through those subkeys checking for a specific value in one of the strings contained in the subkey?
I am using VB.net 2008 and Windows XP.
I am writing a program that will read and write to a file using the My.Computer.Filesystem namespace, and when I append my data file with the code shown below under SaveFile subroutine, it sometimes places extra ControlChars.Newline at the end of the appended text. Sometimes it places one extra newline, and sometimes it adds 3-6 newlines. I have tried everything I can think of to make it add just one newline at the end of each append, as I will be using the newline char to flag each entry on retrieval. I am working out some algorithms in this project to use in a project that will keep track of data in a file using csv format(just practicing saving/retrieving data from a file). The extra newline characters that are added will become a problem when I start to sort the data to display. my xSaveButton click event:
Private Sub xSaveButton_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles xSaveButton.Click
Dim boolAppendData As Boolean
If My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists("myData.dat") = True Then

I have several programs that must write to HKLM in XP and Windows 7/64 Pro.The programs work in VB6 but not in VB.Net 2008 on target machines. It does works on our development machine. [code]I just cannot figure out why VB6 works but .net doesn't and fails only on the target machine not the development machine.
View 2 RepliesHow can I change the permissions of a registry key. I want to allow anyone in the "Users" group to be able to write to "SOFTWAREMyApp".
View 2 RepliesI am trying to create a textfile and write some lines into the textfile. However, the code that i am using can only write when the textfile is already created in the directory.
For this case, can i actually allow my script to search if a textfile is being created, if not create a textfile ???
Dim pathdir As String = "C:workingdir est.txt"
If System.IO.File.Exists(pathdir) = True Then
Dim objWriter As New StreamWriter(pathdir)

I need to be able to change a line in the regisrty an am not sure how to go about it, i have searched but nothing i can understand at the moment.
Code:
HKCU,"SOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerDesktopGeneral","Wallpaper",0x00020000,"%SYSTEMDRIVE%WebDreamSceneBeach.html"
The part in bold is the part i need to be able to change as i am having to write a little program to change the background on the desktop.
I should be ok once i know more on how to do things like this.
I just bet the answer to this question already exists, however I saw no search mechanism under the forum. Anyhow, I would like to change registry data, and this code is asking for an instance to the object.
Dim RegKey As RegistryKey = My.Computer.Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwa reAnyDWGSoftwareDWGtoPDFProSettings", True)
RegKey.SetValue("OutputPDFFileOpt", 1)
Finally, I want to apply this setting to the program on four different computers (local, and three others on the network).
Question: I have an ini file which I need to clear before I add info to it.Unfortunately, if I just delete the file, the permissions are gone as well.

I've setup a TextWriterTraceListener which outputs the debug messages I've written to a file.This works fine however what I am trying to do know is output the content of this file to a textbox using a streamreader object.I originaly thought it may because I did not set the text file to allow read/write access so I changed this by setting the following:[code]

Currently I am using this code to check for Firefox on a 32 bit machine
Code:
Dim Firefox32 As String
Firefox32 = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue _
("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMozillaMozilla Firefox 5.0in", "PathToExe", Nothing)
MsgBox("The value is " & Firefox32)
If the value is found then the above message is fine, but if the entry is not found I want it to display a message like: "Firefox could not be found" instead of "The value is: " What code would make this appear?

I need to write data to a file, preferably in binary format, but I am unaccustomed with the concept. Where's the easiest place to get the basics? I could come here with a specific need, but I'm at the point right now where I am more willing to work within the confines of keeping it simple.
Here's what I know:
1. how to open a new file
2. how to specify the record length
3. how to close the file
Some specific questions:
Does the record length have to be constant throughout the file?
Can I read the nth record without reading the whole file?
