I have a dataset (imported from a XML file) with double records (clientname), and I want only the records with the most recent date (datetime field) written to a SQL database. Now I sort the dataset ("clientname ASC, DateTime ASC"), so the newest entry is written to the database.

I'm trying to create a Select Distinct query, but i'm getting stuck with either an empty combobox either a filled combobox that displays all the doubles.or a message "System. Data. DataViewManagerListItemTypeDescriptor".I have a form (form5) with 1 combobox and 1 datagrid. The datagrid loads 5 collumns "ID", "firm", "Fname", "mname", "Lname".[code]I would like to select the firm from a combobox and filter the datagrid so that it only displays the selected firm and the people that are registred here. Furthermore i want the combobox that i use for selecting the firms to lose the doubles.I can load the datagrid and load the Combobox, but selecting is only pointing to the record (highlights in the grid) i chooses but doesn't filter.[code]I use the "Me.EmployeesTableAdapter.Fill" method so mu question is, is it possible that i don't need to use the OLEDB connection or do i still need this to correctly connect to the DB (access)? I changed the script that i brewed together as displayed above, but this did not do the trick.

I am going out to the database, gathering the requested information and filling the dataset. Therefore, everytime I add a query to a table adapter, it is also going to the database to get the information. So, my question is, how do I fill a table in a data set with all the records in the database table and then, filter the information I've already collected in the dataset without going back out to the database again?
The following code works (rows are filtered by the select expression), but then all the controls in the datarepeater are empty. When set to .DefaultView all records return and all controls have their values.

I'm writing an app for someone where I am pulling in work orders table information. The information includes: worknum, fname, lname, customername, description, etc. I do not plan to update the data in this table, only to read from it.I'd like to display a combo box for the work order numbers. The user would start typing the information for the work order in and it would autocomplete based on what's in the list. As work orders are displayed in the combo box, I want to update the data in text boxes representing the various fields.
I'm thinking rather than query the database several times, it would be a good idea to create a DataSet with information for the work orders table within the last x months then query the data from that dataset. I know there is a DataSet.Select method, but it looks like it returns the entire row. Is it possible to retrieve just a column of distinct values? For example, I'd like to do a select statement similar to this:
SELECT worknum FROM {WorkOrderDataSet} WHERE date >'{today-x}
The first part in curly brackets is meant to represent the work order dataset I create when first importing the data from Access. The second part in curly brackets will be replaced with variable data to represent a date to reference. I also don't think I'll need distinct because the workorder is unique (edit: is a primary key)Is it possible to retrieve just a column of distinct values from a DataSet with multiple columns? I am populating a datagrid control using files in a specified path (DirectoryInfo).I would like to filter the files based on a user specified date range (start date & end date). While search S/O, I found this post, but I am getting an error on DateComparer ("'DateComparer' is a type and cannot be used as an expression.")

The table field [recordaddeddate] is a Date/Time field in my Access database. Usually this field contains a date + time value. I am using vb.net express version. I have a datagridview which is popuated with data from an access database. I have all the data side working ok with the "Call Date" column set as datetime and sorted in date order assending within my application. I have 2 problem, on my "addnew" form i need to filter the datagridview using the datetimepicker(Date) and to sort the "EventDate" column ascending(that column is set as text on my MDB that's why it is sorted alphabetically not by month) and 1 problem on my "em" form when i click on the button("View this Event" ) or double click the selected row in the datagrid the "addnew" form will showup with the selected row in datagridview.
And lastly on the "home" form load when there is a event saved today a msgbox will appear(you have event saved today, do you want to view them) if yes "addnew" form will showup with the selected event in the datagridview.

I am pulling data from a SQL server database into a dataset. The date are a DateTime type:

I can see the data in the field reads: 2011-09-09 15:56:29.667. I have tried to convert this by adding convert(varchar(10),DateFrom,103) which results in 09/09/2011 and then Custom Formated the DateTimePicker but still no success.I think I might be going completely off track here so can someone guide me on where I am going wrong here or the best way of doing this
