Find Specified Text On An Entire Line (not Just Beginning Characters) In A Listbox
Apr 11, 2011
I have a listbox where each line contains a short 3-4 character model number followed by a tab and then the product name the model number corresponds to. I also have a textbox which I am using to search the listbox.
The code I am using so far works somewhat, just not exactly how I would like. If I enter search text it will highlight the results in the listbox but only for the first characters, is there anyway to search the text of an entire line (index) of a listbox?
Right now I am using the following:
Private Sub txtSearch_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtSearch.TextChanged
ListBox.SelectedIndex = ListBox.FindString(txtSearch.Text)
End Sub
I have a small project which I want to add a different text at the beginning and the ending of each line in a multiline text box.I've tried this, But It only let me to add it at the beginning ( because I don't know the length of each line And also I have to write a code for each line which is very hard because the text box may contains 200 lines Dim lines() As String = TextBox1.Lines lines(0) = lines(0).Insert(0, "Hello World")TextBox1.Lines = lines I want for all lines without having to repeat it again for each line
I have a wrapper class created around TextBox, and I want to find out if there is any way to test if the vertical scroll bar is at the beginning (the very top) of the text box and at the very end of the text box.Alternatively, I will be happy if only I can find out a way to check if a scroll bar is enabled or not in a textbox (note: it's not a RichTextbox).
By enabled, I mean that scroll bar is actually enabled i.e. you can use the scroll bar to scroll the control, not just visible (I know we can check visibility by GetWindowLong)
I'm reading a text file with StreamReader, line by line. If a condition is met, then I do an operation and then start reading the file again from the first line. I realize I could close and then re-open the file, but surely this would be very slow.
I could do this easily in VB6, but pulling my hair out trying to do this in vB.net. It seems that 'Seek' is the function to use, but it doesn't work.
I've seen other examples, where it works, but you must open it a different way -- with a file number.
Imports System.IO Dim I as Integer Dim LineText as String
I know that the topic is kind of weird, but I will explain that here. I am reading text from a text box and inserting that into a listbox. I am wanting to read what the user inputs into the text box and add a character between each character they type. Here is what im wanting to do written out[code]...
I am starting to learn reading and writing to textfiles. One quick problem. My code here
'Read is the variable that will read the kp.txt file" Dim read As IO.StreamReader read = IO.File.OpenText("C:2/kp.txt"[code].....
however when it is read into the listbox those 3 words appear on one line in listbox How can i make it so that each line of the textfile is placed in each line on the listbox?
I have an SQL database, and 50 text files, and Visual Basic 2010 Premimum,I need to find a specific line of text in the text files and then take the next 37 lines of text and save them in my database. I need advice as to point me in the right direction
I am reading a text file with mostly alpha characters. the content is not really relevant but the size of each line is very important. The process I will feed this text to will require each line be no more than 50 characters. So I will pre-process the text and add line feeds to make sure that happens.I tried several VB.NET regex like ^.*$ but that doesn't really break up the lines by 50 characters. I would take the result and iterate through each match and then cut it up and write it to an object in memory. Can this be done with a single regex pass?Otherwise I will use a streamreader and on each line check the length and if <=50 write it out with a streamwriter. if >50 cut it up in sections of 50 and then use streamwriter.
A brief example of my text: 119 SMITH KATY AAAA F ZZZ X NB SX ET MILES,200/LM450
how can i get the number of spaces in the beginning of each line before a word..following code is just for example reasons, not to be misunderstood for code that needs to be fixed.
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click If Clipboard.GetDataObject.GetDataPresent(DataFormats.Text) Then RichTextBox1.Paste() RichTextBox2.Paste() End If End Sub
I've done a customer register in a win form app. and I need to be able to search for a customer fast. If I have more than 100 customers I'd be spending all day to find the right customer by using the previous and next buttons, so I want to have a textbox and a search button. If I write for example just an "A", I want my program to show all customers beginning with an "A". If I write "AN" I want my program to show all customers beginning with "AN".
I want that clicking the btn1 it shows the OpenFileDialog and read file that it has got this structure: SKI10 1 71 0 0 18 101 19 0 29 101 30 0 40 101 41 0 50 101 51 0 62 101 63 0 81 101 82 0 95 101 2 0 0 95 165 3 0 1072 01 4 2 1 93 15
I want that it reads all Line of the File and it add an Item in ListBox for line. For example the first Item of the ListBox in this case is
SKI1
And the 2th Item is in this case.
0 1 7
I want using the StreamReader classes. And i want that when i click an Item of the ListBox it shows the Text in the TextBox and I can edit the Line and that clicking antoher button the Item will come updated with new Text of the TextBox.I have also another button for saving the Mod.I can use the AppendText and it create a new file writing ListBox1.Items line for line.
If SaveFileDialog1.ShowDialog = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Then Dim file_esistenteD As StreamWriter[code].....

How can I open a text file, find a certain word in the text file, and then, just before that word, write a line of text to the file - then save the file?
I'm new here, but have been in and out for a while. Past threads have been helping me along thus far.
I'm currently developing an app which essentially needs a way for me to search in a text box or file for a specific string, and extract the line on which that string appears on. It will be unique, and the syntax is the same on each line. It has basically 2 ID numbers, and is laid out like this: 123456|123456
So, I'd need to search for the first part before the |, and then get the line so I can get the bit after the |, which is the important bit for me.
I have a small code and i want to highlight not only one found item in listbox but to highlight all items found under typed keywords.
Example: i typed vb.net programming and i wanna to find it all keywords under these names and highlight only those sites and put those keywords in textbox2 from textbox1.
I want like this:
Here is the code.
For i = 0 To ListBox1.Items.Count - 1 If ListBox1.Items(i).ToString.ToLower.Contains(Trim(LCase(TextBox1.Text))) Then ListBox1.SelectedIndex = i
How do I limit the number of characters per each line of an RTB to 1 char per line? That is you type one character, after that the textbox should not accept further input on that specific line.-Knock knock -Who's there? -(looong pause..) Java
I have resized the form by using the following code. what i want to do is that i want to fit the entire screen horizontally...so that the horizontal scroll bar doesent appear.....
Private Sub Resize_Form() Dim cControl As Control Dim i_i As Integer[code]..........
Which value do i change in the code that the screen squeezes horizontally ...? There are only two controls on the right side when we scroll....i think if the resolution is done correctly then it will fit in the screen.....but i dont know what chages should be made in the code.
I'm writing a small tool that requires me to take a string as input, search it in a txt file & return the whole line on which the string occurs,..for eg. let's say my text file has line # 5 as : "TEMP-This is a test line" now if i give "TEMP" or "test" as input is want my code to chk evry line in the text file & return the entire line where the string is found...
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim FileName, FindStr As String Dim objReader As New StreamReader("c:MyFile.txt")
How would one remove an item from a ListBox and then remove that line from the TextFile and repopulate the ListBox with new data in Visual Basic.Net?[cod]...
I wanted to select the entire line/row in the RichTextBox, where currently the cursor is. How should I do it ?The code should be paste in command button 'cmdSelect'
I'd just like to know how to clear a listbox of its entire contents. I know in VB6 it was something along the line of 'lstBox.Clear', but that doesn't seem to be the case in this new version of VB.
