I'm new here, but have been in and out for a while. Past threads have been helping me along thus far.
I'm currently developing an app which essentially needs a way for me to search in a text box or file for a specific string, and extract the line on which that string appears on. It will be unique, and the syntax is the same on each line. It has basically 2 ID numbers, and is laid out like this: 123456|123456
So, I'd need to search for the first part before the |, and then get the line so I can get the bit after the |, which is the important bit for me.
Say you enter your first, middle and last name into a single text box, separated by spaces. I need to know how to separate all three names and get the first letter of each. and show it in a label.
I have an SQL database, and 50 text files, and Visual Basic 2010 Premimum,I need to find a specific line of text in the text files and then take the next 37 lines of text and save them in my database. I need advice as to point me in the right direction
I am suppose to only Find the total of each column in the last row. Find the grand total in the last cell (the bottom right corner)Ok i have tried to do the grandtotal but i am not getting what she wants done I have also tried to reverse the arrays but that was wrong to. I am only suppose to add two line one line is find the total of each colums in the last row and to find the grandtotal.
Module Module1 Sub Main() Dim sum(5, 4) As Integer Dim row, col As Integer
How can I open a text file, find a certain word in the text file, and then, just before that word, write a line of text to the file - then save the file?
the following code was to be entered to read each line of the file "line by line" It did not work for me as instructed and I am trying to understand why?
Private Sub Button2_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click Dim FILE_NAME As String = "C:UsersOwnerDocuments est.txt" Dim objReader As New System.IO.StreamReader(FILE_NAME) Dim TextLine As String
I want to modify a text file. It has a lot of lines of text in it. I want to add a line after a specific line (in the middle on other lines) and write strings there.
The code i have, writes to a specific line but it also overwrites the text on that line:
How do I find Line 40 and column 89 in my code. I get the following error message.Error 1 Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types. Line 40 column 89.
I have a listbox where each line contains a short 3-4 character model number followed by a tab and then the product name the model number corresponds to. I also have a textbox which I am using to search the listbox.
The code I am using so far works somewhat, just not exactly how I would like. If I enter search text it will highlight the results in the listbox but only for the first characters, is there anyway to search the text of an entire line (index) of a listbox?
Right now I am using the following:
Private Sub txtSearch_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtSearch.TextChanged ListBox.SelectedIndex = ListBox.FindString(txtSearch.Text) End Sub
How do I find Line 40 and column 89 in my code. I get the following error message. Error 1 Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types. Line 40 column 89.
I am trying to take a line from a text file and get the second half of the line "my.settings.useqs = true" is my example and i want to get true out of the line and then make a textbox contain the text aftter the = sign basicly.
There is a field in the database whose value is the StoredProc name with full path.for example test01.test.dbo.spGetData
test01 is the server name test is the database spgetdata is the SP
I am storing this in a variable
Session("GetSP") = objReader(1).ToString() (test01.test.dbo.spGetData) Dim Command As New Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand(Session("GetSP"), conn) Command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
I always get an error cannot find the SP and it shows like this test.dbo.spGetData It is cutting of the servername test01 always.how can i get the full path.
I have two DataGridView controls on different forms. One is bound and one is non-bound. I am not sure if it is my imagination but I find that properties behave different based on the bound or non-bound. When I compare the properties I do not see any that are different except the data binding properties. On the non-bound DataGridView, the whole line is always highlited, I cannot figure out how to turn it off. Trying to make the grid behave more like an excel grid.
I've been looking through the FCL for a method that will allow me to erase a line of text from a text file and replace it with another line of text. Neither the StreamReader nor StreamWriter have a method for replacing or removing Text from a text file, as does the string object. Are there any available methods for erasing just certain lines of text from a file, and then replacing them with others?
In my code, I'd like to locate a certain line in the text file, and then at that point in the text file, use a For...Next Loop to replace each successive line of the text file with new text:
Dim user_data_file As String = "user_data.txt" edit_input = New StreamReader(user_data_file) Dim edit_line As String = edit_input.ReadLine
[CODE]...
However, I can't find any methods that will allow me to do this.
I have a bunch of object variables which are all initialised in their declarations such that:
Private _myObject As New ThisObject("SomeString")
where ThisObject is one of a number of object types, but all are initialised using a string.
I would like to use the Visual Studio Find/Replace dialog box to search for "As New" then replace everything from "As New" to the first set of speech marks with some text such that:
EDIT
My original example could be solved using other methods. This example is more representative of the actual problem:
Private _myObjectA As New ThisObjectA("SomeString") Private _myObjectLongName As New ThisObjectLongName("SomeString")
I have this code so that when you check a checkbox it drops the item value into the textbox. What I would ultimately like is for the items to be inline and followed by a coma. Atleast on the same line.[code]
I am trying to append a new line to a text file. Sometimes it posts to a new line (like I want it to) and sometimes it appends to the current line, consequently screwing up my read. I even put VbNewLine in the code.
Here is the snippet: Dim outputline2 As String outputline2 = equip & "," & value Dim myfile2 = File.AppendText("equiped.txt") myfile2.WriteLine(outputline2, vbNewLine) myfile2.Close() [URL]
my program can add new lines and select url's but I can't get the remove button working, I read that (maybe) I have to read all lines and write a new file.
If removename = currentfield Then Dim removedata As New System.IO.StreamWriter("z:station.list.txt") removedata.Write(""(currentfield)) removedata.Close() End If
I remove a line from a textfile with the following code. It works fine, but when I remove the first line, a blank line has been left. How can I fix this?
Public Sub DelLineFromFile(ByVal filename As String, ByVal line As Integer) Try Dim lines As String() = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText( _
I'm trying to have a program remove lines from a text file if they start with a certain string. I haven't had much luck with this over the past couple of days so I thought I'd try and get some advice.
This is the code that I've tried most recently, and makes some sense to me, but gives a "A first chance exception of type 'System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException' occurred in mscorlib.dll" error:
Dim SourcePath As String = "C: est.txt" Dim fileLines As List(Of String) fileLines = New List(Of String)(File.ReadAllLines(SourcePath))
I am reading a list of IP's from a text file. After every procedure, the first IP (the first line) needs to be removed, and the new first IP will be read at the beginning of the next procedure. Basically, I just need to know how to get rid of the first line of a text file completely. For example, I'd like to go from this:
I'm making a notepad and i added find method to find the string and i programed the code but when i search some string in the text box the found string not be shown until i will scroll the text box to see it
it's not auto select or auto go to found text
so how can i do this and my code is Imports System.Text.RegularExpressions
