I have this code so that when you check a checkbox it drops the item value into the textbox. What I would ultimately like is for the items to be inline and followed by a coma. Atleast on the same line.[code]

I want to modify a text file. It has a lot of lines of text in it. I want to add a line after a specific line (in the middle on other lines) and write strings there.
The code i have, writes to a specific line but it also overwrites the text on that line:

I am trying to take a line from a text file and get the second half of the line "my.settings.useqs = true" is my example and i want to get true out of the line and then make a textbox contain the text aftter the = sign basicly.

I've been looking through the FCL for a method that will allow me to erase a line of text from a text file and replace it with another line of text. Neither the StreamReader nor StreamWriter have a method for replacing or removing Text from a text file, as does the string object. Are there any available methods for erasing just certain lines of text from a file, and then replacing them with others?
In my code, I'd like to locate a certain line in the text file, and then at that point in the text file, use a For...Next Loop to replace each successive line of the text file with new text:

View 3 RepliesI am trying to append a new line to a text file. Sometimes it posts to a new line (like I want it to) and sometimes it appends to the current line, consequently screwing up my read. I even put VbNewLine in the code.
Here is the snippet:

I'm trying to have a program remove lines from a text file if they start with a certain string. I haven't had much luck with this over the past couple of days so I thought I'd try and get some advice.

I am reading a list of IP's from a text file. After every procedure, the first IP (the first line) needs to be removed, and the new first IP will be read at the beginning of the next procedure. Basically, I just need to know how to get rid of the first line of a text file completely. For example, I'd like to go from this:

im making a game that reads text files off of an ftp server. everything is working great. except for the fact that i cant read more then the first line of the players text file. how would i use substring to, for example, look for 'inventory' and get all the info under 'inventory' and above the next title?

Recently I've gotten by by creating separate text file for each line (such as a text file named, "Username", another named "Password", instead of creating a single text file with both the user name and password.) Now I am faced with having to do this. I want a quick and easy way, VB won't let me do open file as input #1 for some reason. I just need the second line of text out of this text file. What is the quickest and easiest (and painless) way of doing this?

The idea would be to paste values into a Windows form, which then finds each line that begins with that value (a 5 digit number) and removes those lines from the file, and then removes the gaps.
I'm building some lists of selected values from listboxes; it's easy to retrieve the text like so:

What is the corresponding way to return the value rather than the text, in the event that they're different?
Basically what I'm trying to do is read a text file line by line. After each line is read, it will put each line into a separate text box. I've been trying to do this for a while and so far I haven't been able to. I tried using a for loop, but that just put all my lines in to one textbox.
View 8 RepliesI currently have a bunch of text files I need to edit in a folder, I need to edit each file and remove the same line but not all files have this line, so I need to create a script that needs to check if the line exists then remove it.I have 1000s of files, that's why I need help to be able to create a script that does it for me instead of me editing each one manually.I am not sure on how to do this, but I am sure it is not difficult for people that have good experience with VB.net.

I'm currently developing an app which essentially needs a way for me to search in a text box or file for a specific string, and extract the line on which that string appears on. It will be unique, and the syntax is the same on each line. It has basically 2 ID numbers, and is laid out like this:
123456|123456
So, I'd need to search for the first part before the |, and then get the line so I can get the bit after the |, which is the important bit for me.
How would I go about reading a textfile, finding values and using the values in the program?Now I want the program to read the text file, find [1], use the first line after [1] as value for a variable, and the second line as value for another variable. After that I will run some code with the values and then do the same thing again for [2] etc.
View 2 RepliesI've a got a homework assignment that chooses one of four values in a list box, stores it in a text file. Secondly, on the display click event it should access the text file, read the line, store it in a variable and then display the totals in a text box. Works sort of fine except that it doesn't display the totals correctly. Code for both buttons is below. The variable are assigned in the mainform (Tried also in the display button and didn't change anything). The save button works fine and stores fine in the text file, it's just the reading that's the problem.

I need to sort the values of my listbox to have the latest date on top plus some text. here is the code I'm using:

a user copies multiple lines of text (say, from an email) into the clipboard. Based on my observations, when one tries to paste the text into a single-line textbox, only the first line is actually pasted in. (I am aware that the "obvious" solution would be to set the Multiline property to True, but there are reasons I am looking to avoid this and to put multi-line data into a single line.)
In the TextChanged event handler, I wrote code that parses the clipboard data to successfully convert it to a single-line, comma-delimited format.
