View 3 RepliesRight now i have a form in the VB where there are 2 combobox in it. user can choose from a range of products that comes together with some description and these are to be stored in a database table.. when i retrieve these data from another form in VB, i'm only able to retrieve the first product and it repeat e same product in my second textbox.
View 6 RepliesI have 2 datagrids. One to show Product information and another for Product purchase details entry. Both share the same dataset. The dataset (ds) is filled up with columns from 2 table
ProductMstrTbl : ProductID, ProductName..
ProductDetailsTbl: ProductID, PurchaseDate, Amt, BalanceQty..
DataSet(ds) : ProductID, ProductName, PurchaseDate, Amt, BalanceQty.
The problem is that: Showing from dataset or entering new records into the dataset is no problem, but am not able to save the modified dataset into DataBase. SqlCommandBuilder failed to generate the corresponding INSERT, UPDATE command as the dataset has multiple base tables.
Does anyone have code for Extracting Windows XP Product Key Code in VB 2008?
View 2 RepliesSome software was installed on 8 XPSP2 PCs at 3 seperate times. 3 of the PCs, after installation, were restarted as per the installation instructions. When restarted, Windows XP displayed an error:The procedure entry point ___CxxFrameHandler3 could not be located in the dynamic link library Msvcrt.dll. and Windows will not start. (nor in Safemode)The problem I am having is that Msvcrt.dll is not shipped with the program, and from my research it is related to C++. The program is written in VB6 so I am confused. It could just be a coinsidence, but it only happens after the installation has told the user to restart the computer, so must be directly related to the installation. However, if the installation files were wrong or corrupt, NO installations would work correctly and we would have a problem on all of the PCs.

View 9 RepliesI am using Visual Basic 2010 Express. I have a program that I need to have work in conjunction with the scanner software that our company uses. how to get my program to watch for when the space bar is hit and I have also figured out how to make sure that my program's "spacebar trigger" only works when the scanner software is running.
The problem is this: If for some reason the user decides to use some other program while the scanner software is running, my program still watches for any time the user hits the spacebar. As a result that triggers the "spacebar trigger." I only want that trigger to fire when the scanner software has focus. How do I do that?

View 5 RepliesI have a VB 6 SP6 application that uses DirectX 7 to interface to a USB joystick (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro). The application works under Windows XP Pro (32-bit).I've got Visual Studio and the application running under Windows 7 Pro SP1 (32-bit).
I've calibrated the joystick under Windows 7.The VB 6 application does not find any DirectX 7 joystick device to connect to.Otherwise, the VB 6 application works (GUI, embedded video, serial channel, Ethernet connections). The VB 6 application must be accessing the dx7vb.dll or it would crash. The joystick disc did not provide a driver.I installed the latest joystick Profiler vendor software from the Web.This is my first attempt to use Windows 7 as a platform.I'm not sure what to try from a Windows 7 perspective.
On a recent project I stumbled across a page of code that looked unfamiliar, but which evidently was the code behind my form design. I'll copy and paste an excerpt to show you what I mean:
'Required by the Windows Form Designer
Private components As System.ComponentModel.IContainer

I thought this was a useful way to back up my project via email because it's in text form. But now I can't find the same information. I've looked in the Object Browser but couldn't find it anywhere. I think I stumbled on it the first time by right clicking Go to definition, but now that doesn't take me anywhere if I click on say form1. So where will I find this mysterious page that has all the form items information in text, not graphic form? Can't find it anywhere.
I need to find the system date change made by the user, i can find out this by checking the event log, and the event log can be deleted so it is not good idea. Can anyone suggest a method to find out the system date change in windows?

View 1 RepliesI have an application that allows the user to conduct database backups and restores. The users had been using Windows XP, with network security that allowed users to read the registry. For restores, the installation path to the SQL Server named instance was easily found by looking up the instance name in the registry using
restoreDir = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\" & m_DatabaseInstanceName & "\Setup", "SQLPath", Nothing).ToString
They have recently upgraded to Windows 7, and locked down the registry so that users can not read values from it. Is there a way (via code) to find the path to a named instance of SQL Server, so that the app can automatically place the database files (mdb & ldb) in the correct folder?

View 10 Repliesthis error seems to be an error on Microsoft's part with Windows 7 and DirectX9. DirectX11 on Windows 7 should be able to run DirectX9, but it says it can't find the assembly called "Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D.dll". I know for a fact that he can play Assasins Creed on Windows 7 which uses DirectX9.. Why does that game work but not my application? I'm using VB.NET btw.

I am currently working on an existing Windows Forms application (VB.net), and am busy reworking the exception handling mechanism.Currently, a lot of methods in the code are just surrounded with try/catch block that catches a generic exception and then calls a utility method that just shows the user a messagebox informing him of the error, and then logging it.So in a lot of cases no corrective action is taken and the exception is just logged. I know this probably isn't the best way but that's they way we're gonna have to do it for the near future.Anyway, I wanted to do this in a more generic way, so I hooked up Application.ThreadException and AppDomain.UnhandledException.
This seems to work well, except for one inconvenience. Whenever an error gets thrown from the .net runtime itself, or a 3rd party control, the stacktrace begins there where the exception is thrown in the framework-methods or 3rd party methods (obviously!)But it would be handier if I had an easy way of finding out exactly where these exceptions cross the boundary into my code. I would like an easy way of determining (in Application.ThreadException) where in my own code an exception originated. am aware this information is contained in the Exception.StackTrace property, but I would like an easy way to get to this specific information seeing as the stacktrace property is one huge string.
In my winforms project, some of the forms have a set of ContextMenuStrips defined on them (through the visual studio designer). Some of these contextmenustrips have been attached to controls, but others have not.Now my problem is this: I need to go through all of the ContextMenuStrips at runtime, whether they are attached or not.I've got some code that will recursively go through all controls and check the ContextMenuStrip property and this works fine.... However I can not get to the ContextMenuStrips that haven't been assigned to a control yet.
