Jun 25, 2009

I have 2 datagrids. One to show Product information and another for Product purchase details entry. Both share the same dataset. The dataset (ds) is filled up with columns from 2 table

ProductMstrTbl : ProductID, ProductName..
ProductDetailsTbl: ProductID, PurchaseDate, Amt, BalanceQty..
DataSet(ds) : ProductID, ProductName, PurchaseDate, Amt, BalanceQty.

The problem is that: Showing from dataset or entering new records into the dataset is no problem, but am not able to save the modified dataset into DataBase. SqlCommandBuilder failed to generate the corresponding INSERT, UPDATE command as the dataset has multiple base tables.

__CxxFrameHandler3 During Windows XP Startup, After Product Installation?

Oct 8, 2009

Some software was installed on 8 XPSP2 PCs at 3 seperate times. 3 of the PCs, after installation, were restarted as per the installation instructions. When restarted, Windows XP displayed an error:The procedure entry point ___CxxFrameHandler3 could not be located in the dynamic link library Msvcrt.dll. and Windows will not start. (nor in Safemode)The problem I am having is that Msvcrt.dll is not shipped with the program, and from my research it is related to C++. The program is written in VB6 so I am confused. It could just be a coinsidence, but it only happens after the installation has told the user to restart the computer, so must be directly related to the installation. However, if the installation files were wrong or corrupt, NO installations would work correctly and we would have a problem on all of the PCs.

VS 2008 Protect Product Obfuscation?

May 19, 2009

I've developed a product, I now want to protect it from reverse engineering and decompilation, can anyone share some info about this..?I'm looking for the BEST product out there, for doing this, I want to make it a pain to decompile or reverse engineer my product =)Does anyone know of any? or any other products that do other things that can help protect it, for example, I once found a program which converts ALL your .NET exe, into a C++ exe file, so it's not .NET code anymore, fully machine code or something like that (can't find it anymore though).

I thought posting here would be a good idea, since, a lot of you are very experienced with developing products, and perhaps some of you have used obfuscator's to protect them.

VS 2008 Windows API Code Pack - ApplicationRestartRecoveryManager?

Jun 5, 2011

I am looking for verification on whether Application Restart and Recovery APIs work on Windows Vista or not. In the documentation the introduction says it designed for both Windows7 and Vista. Windows API Code Pack for Microsoft® .NET Framework provides a source code library that can be used to access some features of Windows 7 and Windows Vista from managed code.I did surf thru the issue tracker on the API home page, nothing mentioned on restart/recovery issues.

In the download, there are two sample projects specific to restart/recovery of an application, which has stopped responding (AppRestartRecoveryDemo), one in VB.NET and the second in C#. I tried both with dbWin32 to monitor that various operations ran and that there were no exceptions raised. All operations ran without raising an exception other than the restart failed and the initial recovery worked. Before working with the above projects I did rebuild the core libraries rather than use the supplied binaries.

When first running the project you must wait 60 seconds for recovery/restart mode to be possible along with registering for recovery using the following.

ApplicationRestartRecoveryManager.RegisterForApplicationRestart( _
New RestartSettings("/restart", RestartRestrictions.None))

I changed the restrictions above seeing if this would make a difference in regards to restart failing but it did not.In RegisterForApplicationRestart a check is made to ensure the app is running at least under Vista ThrowIfNotVista It works as I am on Vista. Next RegisterApplicationRecoveryCallback sets up the callback method (see figure 1) to invoke when the app crashes. So when a crash occurs I have verified all code up to Debug.WriteLine("Application shutting down...") executes in the Recovery callback and assume that ApplicationRestartRecoveryManager.ApplicationRecoveryFinished(True) and the return statement execute, as there are no exceptions thrown.

After the recovery callback method finishes I expect the app to restart. The "application is not responding" dialog says that the application will now restart but instead the application closes and never restarts. I am curious if someone else has worked with recovery/restart API and had success on Window's Vista to restart an application.' This method is invoked by WER.

Private Function RecoveryProcedure(ByVal state As Object) As Integer
Debug.WriteLine("ARR: Recovery procedure called!!!")
PingSystem()

VS 2008 - Generating Custom Code For Windows Form From User Input

Mar 30, 2009

How to generate code from user input. In Visual Studio 2008, Visual Basic. My script always begins with:

Code:
function Init(Quest)
Then from here a user would input a quest name, type and zone in a interface using windows forms.
Ex:
Code:
RegisterQuest(Quest, "Kill Zombies", "Heritage", "Firestorm")
end
This part a user would enter in his interface what would an NPC say if accepted.
[Code] .....

What I need is a few text boxs that a user can input "Kill Zombies" or whatever they like and when they push a generate button it will create a file with a .quest extension. All of the code remains the same except for the quotes that would be the user input from the interface. Basically everything in quotes can be changed by the user in an interface. I have created my own functions for when a user accepts, deny and complete a quest. The user just needs to input what should happen then click a generate button to throw it all together as a .quest file to be saved in his or her quest folder for the server to call on later.

I also have many other functions like:
AddQuestRewardFaction --- (Quest, Faction ID, Amount)
AddQuestRewardCoin --- (Quest, Copper, Silver, Gold, Plat)
AddQuestStepObtainItem --- (Quest, Step ID, Description, Quantity, Percentage, TaskGroupText, Item ID(s))
Etc

I would also like to have these available on the UI but wont generate unless a user checks a box to add them or there is a box already for them but wont step into the code unless the user enters something into the box.

Here is the code:

Dim rk As Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey
rk = My.Computer.Registry.LocalMachine.OpenSubKey("SYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlSession Manager", True)
rk.SetValue("BootExecute", "autocheck autochk /p ??" & Drive) 'Turn ON

.net - VB 2008 - Extracting Data From Website?

Oct 20, 2009

All I've been able to do is create the form. We have to get information off of a website and load certain information back into the textboxes on our form.

Assignment 6 - Text Parsing Many applications require you to extract information from a block of text. We will be using this heavily in the project. This project is designed to give you some practice extracting information out of text files. You will need to open up a file, search the file for some specific content, and then copy that content and place it on screen.

Go to Jobs.com and select a state that starts with the same letter as your last name (if there is no state that starts with the same letter, use the second letter, then the third letter, etc.). For example if my name was 'John Byway', since there was no B or Y, I would pick a state starting with W - either Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, or Wyoming.

The idea is you want to extract all the jobs information out of the page. We want to put the jobs names in a combo box, so the use can pick any of the jobs. Ideally, this would also show the information about each job. You don't need to do that. However, you do need to extract the information and put it on the screen (When you load the next job, the old job information will be lost, and you will be left with the information about the last job loaded)

Tasks

1. Go to the above address, view the source in the browser, copy and paste it into a text file. You do not need to access the Source of the web page within your application.(in IE go to View / Source; In FireFox go to View / Page Source)

3. Extract each job title and place the name in the Combo box.

4. Find and extract the following fields. Note, some jobs may not list all of these. In that case, get as many as are presented.

a. Date
b. Title of job
c. Company
d. Location

[code].....

Indicate on screen how many jobs you found. Note, you only need to look on the first page of jobs?

VS 2008 Extracting A File From Resources?

I have a program made in VB that on a button click extracts a exe file from its resources to the HDD then runs the program and deletes it after it closes. I first used the desktop to extract the file to, but seeing as I need to use this program on several computers the account names will be different so this is of no use. I've tried using C: but access is denied.
