Net 4.0 Unable To Find A Version Of The Runtime To Run This Application (Windows 7)?
Jun 25, 2010
We have a VB .Net application that is targeted to the .Net Framework version 2, over the past couple of days users have been reporting that they are getting the following error message when running the program?
I have an application written using Visual studio 2005 (in VB.Net). When I run it on any machine I get "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application and this same application successfully some other PCs[code]...
I have developed an application using VB.NET (.NET 2.0). I have put an exe on 4 client machines, it works fine on 3 clients but fourth gives me the following error:
Unable to find a verison of the runtime to run this application
I have .NET 2.0 framework installed on the fourth machine.

I have developed a windows based application using visual studio 2005 called DMS. On the client side, this application runs on asp dot net framework 2.0. We have created its setup file which has to be installed on the client pc. After the installation of the application, some of the users get the error message as:
DMS.exe - .net framework initiation error Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application
(I have also attached the screen shot of the error message.) Trouble shooting done by me:
a. I had tried the re-install Dot Net Framework 2.0. b. Scanned the PC for virus attack. c. Install dot net framework 2.0 first and then the application. d. Un-install and re-install the whole application.
But none of the solution works. The only thing that works temporarily is un-install the whole application and re-install it. Then it works for a few hours.

I am trying to upgrade a project from VS2005. It is a VB.NET project B that depends on a C# project that references a C++ dll, A.dll. I am getting an error saying 'Unable to find assembly A_class, Version 2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'. The targeted platform of the C++ project is 4.0 and since that project depends on others, I can't downgrade it. But I did set the platform for the VB.NET project to 4.0. What else does the Version 2.0.0.0 refer to ? I have tried to create a brand-new project and added the vb forms into it after I have built it successfully. The C++ dll is in the output directory, if the VB project doesn't find it there, it doesn't get to this point. During build. I either get no error (but forms don't load) or I get 2 errors (one for each form):
I have designed and published my small created app with WINDOWS FORMS using VB 2010 EXP on Windows 7. I can only install the app on the machine that I used to develop the app.I want to install the app on another computer but I cannot. I usually have error reports.
Example:Unable to install or run this application. This application requires Microsoft Common Language Runtime 4.0.3 to be installed on your computer.
what can I do to be able to install the app on a different computer which does not have .Net and does not have visual basic 2010 installed.
I am refactoring an old program to use VS2008 (instead of VS2005) and the 2003 Crystal Reports merge modules no longer work on the client machine. I am using the CR version bundled with VS2008. Neither the CR10 merge modules downloaded from the SAP site work, nor the CR x86 msi.
Could not load file or assembly 'CrystalDecisions.Windows.Forms, Version=10.2.3600.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
The message "Could not find file 'Microsoft.Windows.CommonLanguageRuntime, Version = 2.0.50727.0'." started appearing after I attempted to publish my software. All previous versions of my software are affected as well. I have two projects in the solution. Both are written in vb. All versions used to work fine.
I have seen this happen before but am not sure how I resolved it in the past. On runtime the controls of my form change from the windows 7/vista format to an older version format as shown in the attached image.
How to display the controls in the format on the left (new windows format)
i am studying and now working with Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition. I am working on my project regarding "Serialization". I wanna to start my working with "System.Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Binary" namespace because i am working on serialization project. I know by default IDE dosen't import it. So i went to add it in my project at "Add reference dialog" but i still unable to find out this namespace.
I changed my VB2008 Express development system from Windows XP to Windows 7.After installing Windows 7 I installed VS2010 with VB2010 Express.Tried that and had issues so I installed VS2008 with VB2008 Express. The application I was developing with VB2008 on my XP system will compile and run in the debug environment with VB2008 on Windows 7 but the Release build (double clicking the .exe in the Release directory) will not. An information box pops up stating the application stopped working. No application Form ever showed up on the screen. I can run a simple application I start from scratch on this new setup. The release .exe compiled on my old XP system fails in the same way. What could be the problem? The application of interest uses an SQL Server CE database. A reference forSystem.Data.SqlServerCe is included in the References. What could be different about running in the debug environment vs running the
I am getting the following error when i try to publish my application with the checkbox for ClickOnce Security On. Could not find file 'Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls, Version=6.0.0.0, Culture=*, PublicKeyToken=6595b64144ccf1df, ProcessorArchitecture=*, _ Type=win32'. [projectname ]
In my winforms project, some of the forms have a set of ContextMenuStrips defined on them (through the visual studio designer). Some of these contextmenustrips have been attached to controls, but others have not.Now my problem is this: I need to go through all of the ContextMenuStrips at runtime, whether they are attached or not.I've got some code that will recursively go through all controls and check the ContextMenuStrip property and this works fine.... However I can not get to the ContextMenuStrips that haven't been assigned to a control yet.
I have developed an application in VB.net 2008 having SQL Server 2000 as back end. I am running the application with MSDE 2000 on Windows XP. Now I have switched to Windows 7 from XP. I am unable to run the application on Windows 7 as it is not connecting to database. Can somebody help me to to run the application through MSDE 2000 without upgrading it to SQL EXPRESS 2008 on Windows 7. What I feel is that it could be caused by the Authentication Mode of MSDE 2000 in Windows 7.
My registration form has to support multi laguages at runtime based on user selection language from combo box in windows based application using vb.net
I have a XML file with the latest application version number, I have this loaded into a variable, how can i compare this against the application.info.version to see if it's the latest version??
What I have is on my form there are several text boxes. These text boxes are for user input and attached to each text box is a Private Sub txtBox1_KeyPress function. In that function I have some validation code to check that the user is inputing only what I want them to. And if it doesnt it will pop up a message box telling them so, then it is supposed to clear the text box so the user can try again. But no matter what I try, the text box does not clear it still keeps the last character typed (the invalid one).
Here is the code for one of the text boxes.
Private Sub txtLanIp_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtLanIp.KeyPress Dim strEmpty As String = "" If Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) = True Or Char.IsPunctuation(e.KeyChar) = True Or Char.IsControl(e.KeyChar) = True Then 'do nothing
[code]....
The commented methods at the bottom are some of the other things ive tried to make this work. The txtLanIp.text.clear() is what ive tried from the beginning. I have also tried setting the text to "", I even created an empty string and set the .Text value to it but no matter what it wont remove that character. I have also tried various trim(), len(), Select() functions, most either give me an 'index out of range error', a 'length cannot be less than zero' error or a general ExceptionOutOfBounds error. I am just tearing my hair out as to why the simple way doesnt work, there is no logical reason why and it gives no error it just doesn't clear the box.
I have also tried moving the validation to a _LostFocus but e.KeyChar isnt a valid method or property for that declaration, which doesn't surprise me but I wanted to try everything.I dont see how it would matter in this case but I am running Windows XP Pro SP3, though I also see the same behavior in Windows 7 64 bit ultimate sp1 and windows 7 64 bit pro.
I have a VB 6 SP6 application that uses DirectX 7 to interface to a USB joystick (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro). The application works under Windows XP Pro (32-bit).I've got Visual Studio and the application running under Windows 7 Pro SP1 (32-bit).
I've calibrated the joystick under Windows 7.The VB 6 application does not find any DirectX 7 joystick device to connect to.Otherwise, the VB 6 application works (GUI, embedded video, serial channel, Ethernet connections). The VB 6 application must be accessing the dx7vb.dll or it would crash. The joystick disc did not provide a driver.I installed the latest joystick Profiler vendor software from the Web.This is my first attempt to use Windows 7 as a platform.I'm not sure what to try from a Windows 7 perspective.
[code]It is for ASP.NET, i want to run it in Windows Application. I get an error says FileUpload reference doesn't exist or so. FileUpload resides in System.Web.UI.WebControls which doesn't belong to Winforms family. Please note that the file will be saved from desktop to remote file server (not ~/Uploads).
I am a SQL Server Developer and DBA. I have some experience in VB.Net (Windows Application) programming. I used to use .config to setup database user and password. I have a windows application running on my computer. I would like to check which username and password is used to connect to SQL Server Database.
There is a machine in which .NET v1.1.4322 was installed and also .NET v2.0.50727/v3.0/v3.g were installed. Can we switch these runtime version for each applications like Java applications?Or we can not switch runtime and we can just use only the installed latest version in the machine?
i hav developed a active x control which uses timer control and Windows Common Dialog Box. it runs normally in a browser. but when i try to make it a ".ocx" the following error is displayed.Unable to set up the version compatible component.
I'm working on a VB.Net Project and someone suggested me to use the VB2008 IF(a,b,c) operator. I think I am using VB2005, but I can't find where to confirm that information.
Also, is the server's IIS version important for the VB version used? (I think so, but I'd like confirmation... And a way to know what IIS version match what VB version).
I have code below which determines the version of Access. It runs quickly on most PCs. We also have four terminal servers. On two of the terminal servers it runs fine. On the other two, this code takes over 15 seconds to run.All four terminal servers have Access 2003 runtime. I can't figure out why it would take longer to run on two servers. Would it be permissions? Or some mistake in the way the Access runtime was installed?
' Determine the Access version by creating an ' Access.Application object and looking at ' its Version property.[code]......
I have a Visual Basic 2005 program which runs fine if I execute the built Executable. However if I start the application in VS2005 debugger it gives a weird error
