how to stop a ComboBox from displaying blank data?
The query I'm using does not allow nulls but the ComboBox is showing black areas and the user can click in those areas.
The PureComponents ComboBox did not show the blank areas but when I started to use the ComboBox from VS 2008 the blank areas are showing up.
The attachment shows me clicking in a blank area.
When I will click the suggested text shown in the combobox it will disappear.My Combobox btw is connected in a database.If I type Kev then kevin and kevsky will show at its suggestion then when I will click any of it ,the combobox text will be empty or will clear what I typed ("Kev") and will not show what I clicked.[code]

View 6 Repliesi have a combobox that is linked to a database, but when an item is selected it is changing the name of the top item to the selected name. im sure this is happing because it is its text value and not it selectitem value, is there anyway to stop text input so it becomes a selected value rather than a text property

View 2 RepliesI've been having fun with the xmldocument class recently but am struggling with namespaces. I've been trying (with some success) to merge parts of one XML file into another. The problem has been that one of them utilises a namespace on one of the interior nodes and therefore my xpath queries where failing when I tried to create a nodelist. This I fixed (after reading some great examples here) by adding a namespace manager and changing my query accordingly.
Everything looked fine initially and I appeared to end up with the desired effect, but the XML file that was created was failing in the target application. What I didn't realise at first (due to the length of the xml node values being wider than my screen!!) was that when I imported the nodes from one file to another, a blank names space was being added to the end of each node (xmlns="")

I am creating the items in a combobox in my code behind. I am setting the display member and the value member. When the user makes a selection from the combo box, I need to get the value of the selected item. I have written some code, but when I step through it, it says that the selectedvalue is Nothing.
Here is the code where I am creating the items in the combo box:

I have an website that has a datagrid that is pulling information from an SQL database. The user then clicks a link from that grid and is redirected to another page. My question is if a user clicks the first link and is redirected and then a second user clicks the link is there a way to stop that second user from being redirected or sent back to the first page after they click the link? So it would have to somehow detect on the second page that a second user has clicked the same link. Hope this is clear. This is being programmed in VS 2008 vb.net and SQL 2008
View 2 RepliesSimply saying I've added an Notify Icon to my project and then added context menu showing up when the left mouse button is pressed. The problem is that with the context menu some blank form is showing in the taskbar. There is no such form within the project.Does anyone know why it may be happening or how to get rid of the effect? I might add that I have other context menu attached for mouse right click button and it works fine, no blank forms and such showing on the taskbar it's just the left mouse button that works that way.Here is the code that I am using to show the menu:(the visible state to false is necessary for the other menus not to pop up with the one i want... unless anyone knows better method)

I have just realised that ComboBoxes don't have a Change event. I have a combobox filled with a few items, eg. Bakery, Deli, Fruit & Veg, etc. Choose one of these items, all the related items show in the dgv. However, when I blank the text in the Combobox (press Delete key whilst Combobox has the focus), what event fires so I can blank the dgv? The combobox does not contain a Blank item. Even if it does, the Blank item only fires the ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged when the user scrolls down to, or clicks on, the blank value.
I want to clear the dgv when the user blanks the combobox without necessarily changing the selection index.

I've created an ownerdraw ComboBox (used as DropDownList only) in Visual Basic .NET 2010. I inherited ComboBox and set DrawMode to OwnerDrawVariable. The control itself and the dropdown items are drawn with Paint and DrawItem.
The control works fine so far, but there is one thing i was unable to change: When i click on the combobox to open the dropdown area, this new area has a very bright border color (nearly white) which I want to change to black. I have a START and STOP button and when the user clicks "start" the program does a whole bunch of calculations and all. However, I noticed that when I was testing the program I clicked STOP the program continues to execute stuff.
My START code is basically a while loop that iteratively does some calculations.
So I just put a boolean variable as the while condition and when user clicks stop its set to false and when user clicks start its set to true. However, when I click stop, the condition is set to false yes but it still executes all the code until the condition is re-evaluated right...so my question is how can I get out of the while loop when user instantly clicks "stop"?
I'm populating the datagridview at runtime based on user input. The issue I'm having is that the the combobox is displaying blank. The item I need is in the dropdown (I've added it), but I can't get it selected by default. I've tried the display member but that's not working.

View 1 RepliesSince we have to resize the combo box dropdown area based on the combo box item length, used the drawstring() to add items to combo based on the item length. This gave us the below issue: On moving the cursor on the drop down area the font color and the background color are back hence the text is not readable (i.e. the whole item becomes black).

We tried changing font color and the dropdown area backcolor on selecting a particular item. How to make the text readable (i.e. the font color should change while if we scroll on the item).

how do I adapt the my application area to the user's monitor resolution?I have created a winForms application on 1280*768 resolution monitor and the application is generally used on smaller laptops (10inches). When the control resizes to show some extra information it expands. It also collapses when the user preses a button. This works alright. But now when I click where the expanded area used to be, it still fires mouse leftbuttondown on that control. I have tried to set IsHitTestVisible to false on the expanded element but it diden't work. Here's some xaml...

I am working on a project that uses multiple forms, each with a listbox for output. I had everything working fine and decided to do some final tweaking. I added some comments and changed each forms FormBorderStyle to (Fixed3D) from (Sizeable). When I did a final test run, all of my listboxes come up blank... I went back and reverted FormBorderStyle to (Sizeable) from (Fixed3D).
All of my listboxs, on multiple forms, are still blank.
I have developed a win form application using vb.net 2.0, mistakenly my vbproj file deleted. Now the issue is that when i open the solution in the design view all my forms ( 170 + ) shown blank. but when i run the application all the controls are properly displayed and application is running fine. Issue is why all forms are shown BLANK in design view , as i cant make any changes to the design now.
