Forms :: Integer Value Changing When Compare Cell Data By Using 'IndexOf' Feature?

I have a program that is reading an Excel (xlsx) file and I am trying to take the data found in one of the cells and split it based upon the '@' symbol inside that cell. Here's an example: value in cell is "XXX @ YYY" I declare 3 strings (strOriginal, strA, strH) strOriginal is the value from the cell ("XXX @ YYY") then my code is supposed to split up the values in the Original string based upon that '@' symbol.So when my code is done, strA should = 'XXX' and strH should = 'YYY'.
Here is my code
strOriginal = dtbExcelData.Rows(0).Item(0).ToString
y = strOriginal.IndexOf("@")
strA = strOriginal.Substring(0, y - 1)

For some unknown reason, the y integer (in this case, it is '4') changes to a random number (it has changed to 44, 61, 124) and causes the error "Error with Excel file: Index and length must refer to a location within the string. Parameter name: length" to occur.I understand why the error occurs (my y integer is not staying at 4)...I just don't understand why that y integer is changing numbers when it should remain as the indexof the '@' symbol. I'm looking for any suggestions on how to pull out the data after the space after the '@' symbol (the 'YYY' portion of 'XXX @ YYY'). Also sometimes the 'YYY' is only 'YY' as well.

Well ive created a web browser programme and created a user login form for the users to login and that works fine. Now i want to create a feature while the person is logged in, he can change users, so loging as another user whilst already logged in, for example, Admin user might be logged in and now he wants to change user to a normal user without turning the programme on and off to do so.

I created 2 forms in Access 2003 (Form1 & Form2) for the purpose of creating a 'smartform' of sorts for my company. In essence they can click on a search feature in the top cell and input an employee ID # which automatically fills in about 10 to 15 fields.
- There is only 1 table attached to the forms.
- The group I created this for is uncomfortable using Access.
What I would like to do with VB.net:
- I thought I would create an internal webpage using VB.net so they wouldn't need to log into Access [the DB would be stored on a separate server.]
- I would need a clean & simple interface that has 2 buttons, one for each form.
-When the form is called up I would need a search feature "EMPLID _________" which would connect to the Access DB table and retrieve the correct information.
-Id also need to have the form printable & have the ability to search again or return to the front page.

I've been looking everywhere for an answer to a simple question, but i'm having issues, so i thought i'd join and post here. I'm having issues with a simple concept. I load information from a SQL database, and i want to add a 'Passport' link URL relating to column cells called 'name'. I have an image column in a dgv. I set the value from My.Resources.XXX.How can I compare the value of the cells with an image in the resource? dgv.rows(0).cells(0).value=My.Resources.S_DEFECT don't seems to work. I tried it with object.equals, but no success.

Dows anyone know how I can build a timeout feature into a windows forms app.
The app is event driven, but I am thinking of somehow using a timer which counts down for say 10minutes, and one the timer ticks then we time out the user.
The problem I have is how can I reset the timer each time the mouse is moved or clicked.

Im having trouble changing the value of a textbox to integer. I want the user to enter a start number in the textbox, then when the user presses the button +1 that number is incremented by one.

Here's the situation: I've got a form that has
- RichTextBox
- OpenButton (to load RTF file)
- SaveButton (to save RTF file after editing)
- Textbox (for search phrase)
- SearchButton
- ExitButton
- 2 RadioButtons (WholeWord and MatchCase search)
All of them are working just the way I want them to except search features; I don't know how to write them properly. At the moment, they search and highlight only the first word they encounter. E.g. say I search for word "the" in the document, only the first "the" it encounters is highlighted. The rest is just untouched.
I understand this is because I've only got few lines of simple code as follows

I did try a few other snippets I found on the Internet including While loop but they didn't work as I wanted them to, and I couldn't understand them either. What I want is, which ever search option is used, when the matching result is found; it will highlight that word and when I click it again it will move onto another word. If I keep clicking, it will highlight the same words (but located in different areas) throughout the whole document and at the end, it will send back to the first matching word. Just like Adobe Reader search.

I am new to Visual Basic 2010, but I have been trying to make a line reader with an imported text document into a RichTextBox through an internet source.
I want the RichTextBox's line zero (the first line) to really be line one, but without changing the text in the TextBox to show the change. In other words, I want that change to happen in the background of the program.
I have tried... taking the text from one TextBox and putting it into another, while subtracting an integer value of onean attempt to use a timer to copy the text from one TextBox to another to read the line properly.
I have tried a couple of other things too, but most of them were much more complicated and I could not really explain what each thing did.[code]...

I am writing a VBA code for testing different combination of 24 variables and recording a result which corresponds to each combination of 24 variables. so I have an equation with 24 variables and one result. In excel I have one column which contains the 24 variables and the column next to it contains a figure which shows the result. what I need to do is to write loops to change the 24 variables between 1,2, and 3 and then record the result of the equation for each combination of 24 variables. I have written the loops (24 loops) and can record the result for each combination, what I have to do at this stage is to record the combinations which relates to each result.
As there is only one result for each combination of 24 variables I was wondering whether I can tag each variable (in each cell) in a way that in the final sheet in the cell next to the result cell I can write for example 111123123111233311121232. This means that after each loop I am taking the values for each variable in 24 cells and put them all together in one cell in the final sheet. These variables are changing in each loop, the label should change as well after each loop so after the completion of the code I can find out which combination relates to which result. I have tried to define an array or matrix but I couldn't fix the problem. This is the input sheet (the code changes the values in the cells in A column after each operation)

I have 2 forms, frm1 and frm2. frm1 has a combobox, cboLocations and based on what selection is made here, frm2 is loaded and its combobox, cboOffices is populated. I currently have the following code on frm1:

I have a project due tonight and suddenly 2 of my datagridviews are acting funky while the others are fine.
I have 2 tables in an sqlce db. the first is books(id, title, copyright) and the next is publisher(id, name, bookid). I'm writing a vb.net frontend to access the data.
I have data bound datagridviews for both tables. Both have their respective ID columns hidden. The publisher dgv uses a combobox cell style to display the book title in the bookid column. So far so good.
I have suddenly run into a problem where if I have clicked in a cell on the books dgv and then click a cell on another row, the title changes to the id value. The publisher dgv also updates to show the id instead of the title.
It sounds to me like there may be a problem with the booktableadapter or bookbindingsource, but I don't know where to start looking for it. I have a 3rd dgv referencing an unrelated table, and it has no problems. The code for both the working and problematic dgvs are the same (only the control names are different).

I am making a diary Form in VB.NET to do this I am using a listview with two columns.
Column 1 consists of a list of time and column 2 is the description
Can I change the colour of certain cells in column 2 only. So when I read in the data from the database it reads in the description and then puts the data in the relevant time slot but I want the recent cells of the description column to be a different colour.

I am looking for a Visual Basic control for my windows application. It's a either a datagridview or listview in VB 2010. The list actually come with the filtering function on the top row. The user is allowed to key in the search key in the respective column and the list will filter at run time. Please refer to the picture below for your reference, the function is in the red box. I found this control in one of the software. Is there any similiar control in the VB 2010 or 3rd party control?
