Feb 5, 2011I would like to know how can I use (read and write) a value in each of my forms. To make it clear: I have 2 forms, Form1 and Form2. I've a string, called string1. If I use in Class Form1 (e.g. at Form1 load) Dim String1 As String, Form2 can't read or change it, because it only exists in Form1. So I would like to have a, let say "general value", a (for example) string, which every form can read&write.

str(1) is an array and integer(or double, tried both)
a(1) is an array and integer (or double, tried both)
a(1) = a(1) + 1

the big part is where i get: operator '+' is not defined for types 'integer' and '1-dimensional array of integer'.why do i get that message and what does it mean? how do i make the code do what i want?

Apr 25, 2011I'm trying to create a linked list of an array of integers. Why is the following implicit conversion required?
When I run the code that contains that conversion, I get the following error.
As a real-time data acquisition user control data (a packet of an array of bytes) arrives every second, is converted into an integer array and inserted into a linked list.
The most recently arrived data is painted as coordinates on a grid at the right of a PictureBox using Graphics.DrawLine (pen,X1,Y1,X2,Y2).
The oldest data (arriving 120 seconds ago) will be drawn at the leftmost portion of the Picturebox.
Why a linked list rather than a list? To display 120 views of time sequence data, the draw routine the most recently inserted node to a node that points to Nothing. How do I limit the length of the linked list to 120 nodes and always ensure that the last node points to Nothing?

When I hover over a label it will display the name in another label such as "lblShowName".

Mar 7, 2010Some binary files have application variables at the end if you open it with a text editor you can see these variables. Now when I read these files into the processor memory the program does not work properly, however if I read a file without this it works fine. So how can I read a byte[] array to EOF so that when I pass that byte array into win32 api create-process it will create the process without corrupting the program?

I need to know how to tell vb to take a specific item in an array and make the setting equal to it. May 25, 2010I have developed a vb.net dll (.net 3.5) which does the following :
- I have data of several stock market companies.
- They are stored in several folders under a main folder.
- These files are random access files.
- There can be around 4000 files in total for example.
I wrote a program which reads a current csv file and stores contents in array. Then I store name and path of companies in folders (which I was talking about). Then I match one company from csv (stored in array) to companies in user's folder (again reading from array). If found I insert data in the file (random access file). This whole process takes for eg. 2 min my system. A similar program was written years ago by someone in powerbasic which takes slight less time if run one but if run for multiple csv files it takes only a few seconds doing the same thing for other files. When I do the same thing (by writing code to .net dll) and making a dummy app to run it, no matter how many times I run it takes same time. And is way slower than the earlier one (PB) one I was talking about. But if I paste the same code in my win (.net) app and not use .net dll then it runs a bit faster.
I need to show status so if I pass my form's label reference to .net dll and it updates it does that slow down process a lot. As I mentioned I am trying to process the files and it takes longer in .net. What should I do to get best performance? Unfortunately due to unexplainable reasons I cannot change the format or use a db. The files which I am reading/writing (random access files) are use by other products so I have to stick to that format. What I am doing is storing the location of those files in array so that I don't have to search folder again. that is not taking time. But opening reading and writing files is time consuming if I am doing it for few thousand of them. A similar program in powerbasic (developed years ago) runs fast. Running code thru .net dll is slower than running it thru program. Why?

VS 2010 Read CSV File To Multidimensional Array
Feb 1, 2012I'm working on a new application for one of my Managing Editors at my company. We are wanting to build an application that only has 4 combo boxes for user options and then according to the options that the user selects, the application will spit out 3 random lines of text that can be copy and pasted into another application that we use.We are in the process of creating a rather large (1000's of lines) CSV file that we are going to use as a repository for the text. Let's call the data file SRG9000Data.csv..I'm almost 100% certain that I'm going to need to read in the entire datafile as an multidimensional array because we are setting up the CSV file as follows:[code]For each of THOSE categories, I'm looking at having 8 possible items for <Sports>, and 3 items for <PlayType>, <GameImpact>, and <Scoring>. <Text> is being use as a possible Text Phrase that the system can select from randomly provided that the other area's of the array are met.The CSV file will have 1000's of lines. Of those, the system will "filter" though all of them so that ONLY the ones that meet the selected criteria can be used, then choose 3 of them randomly and use that as output.
Extra information: I am currently establishing that the CSV file being used is setup as 0-7 for <Sports> (0 = Baseball, 1 = Basketball, etc..), 0-2 for <PlayType> (0 = Defensive, 1 = Offensive, 2 = Other), 0-2 for <GameImpact> (Negative, Neutral, Positive), and 0-2 for <Scoring> (0 = Non-Scoring, 1 = Other, 2 = Scoring); <Text> is a String.I am clueless when it comes to setting up an array like this; It's been many many MANY a year since I worked with array's in QB and I feel I may need more than a refresher course.Now, if I'm understanding correctly from some of the forum lurking i've been doing, multidimensional arrays CANNOT be of mixed type, correct?
