Forms :: Red Exclamation Mark In DGV Bound To SQL?
May 15, 2011
In my application I have bound a datagridview to a SQL2005 bindingsource.I really had to change a database field (more length allowed) and now de DGV displays red exclamation marks and states: 'Colomn 'password' exceeds the MaxLength limit'. (the 'password'-colomn isn't even displayed, but that's a sidenote).I tried different things but can't get rid of the exclamation marks. how I can manage this. I really don't want to create a new DGV, because there a lot of code and stuff involved.

What would be the most efficient way to find the grid a collection is bound to. Is there a way to use databinding to return the control a collection is bound to? I need a method like GetBoundGrid(myCollection) that returns a datagridview.
This method will be on our EntryFormBase form. This is a 3 panel form consisting of a search area, search results (MainGrid) and a detail section. This base forms handles all the logic for adding, saving and deleting data. (Bad design I know but it's what I inherited.) If I know the current collection I need to determine the grid it is bound to.The app I am currently working on was created using VS2003 before binding sources were available so it is bound old school.

I have added a SQL Server datasource through the wizard. I created my forms which were bound to the dataset. Is it possible to change the datasource and dataset names while updating the dataset the binding controls of the form?
For instance, Server 1 has DB1 and Server 2 has DB2 (DB1 & DB2 store the same information/tables). Is it possible to keep the forms and only update the binding information if I want the forms to use DB2?

I'm looking at inherited code and I found this in a vb.net windows form:New System.Drawing.SizeF(6.0!, 13.0!)My question is, what is the significance of the ! (exclamation) operator here? Most of my searching for the exclamation operator ends up returning recordset format or the ! gets ignored in the search and I get hundreds of unrelated items.

I have a windows form with multiple TextBoxes that are bound to a DataSet of type XML. I load text into the textboxes using DataSet.ReadXML method in the form's load event.
I have another windows forms application which edits the XML contents in that XML file.
How do I force the textBox controls on this form to refresh once the XML datasource file items are changed?

I would like to commit the data put in a checkedlistbox to the user.config. I have found a way to commit them to my.settings but no matter what Save() method I call, it does not commit the new data (that is not bound to a control, through the propertybindings) to the user.config, either immediately or when I shutdown the application. Which means, when I loop through the settings when the application starts back up, the data is not there to be added back to the checkedlistbox. I have put save methods in the formclosing events as well as when the data is created in the my.settings. using my.mysettings, my.settings and my.settings.default. Thank you in advance for your input.
This first method is a called when a button is pushed. it checks the text and then calls the next method (AddProperty) which should add the property to my.settings and save it to user.config, but my understanding is that it is not written to the file till the applicatoin closes.

In a Windows XP Pro environment, my system uses a mainframe emulator in a window in which a scanning application is running. The data populating the mainframe app comes from various instruments, scales, barcode scanners, etc.. The data inputs are captured by a winwedge type RS232 data aquisition software.
When all the data is processed correctly, the mainframe application sends an "operation completed" message and creates an exclamation system event associated with a specific sound to inform the user.
My goal is to create a MS Access application that would use the Exclamation system event to validate writing the barcode that was just read to a database without further querying the mainframe, creating a local database. I only want to write the barcode when the mainframe application completed and therefore played the sound.

I am using a DataGridView bound to a BindingSource which is itself bound to a List of objects. This all works well until I remove objects from the list. If I am scrolled down to the bottom of the DataGridView and then remove a bunch of items from the list it is bound to it generates a DataError exception because the length changed and the rows I am looking at no longer exist... I changed my code to handle that error, but now instead of popping up a message it SLOWLY erases the data in each of the newly invalid rows at the end of the table (I think each time it does one it generates a new DataError, which is why it is so slow).
How do I prevent this? I want to be able to dynamically (and programmatically) add and remove items from the table without the possibility of this error... I assumed this would be handled automatically as part of the data binding process but I guess not.

I'd like to have an updateable DataGridView that's bound to a database-driven business object. It needs to handle all aspects of CRUD and be sortable and filterable as well.
Most of them simply bind to an object (non-database, manually filled) and do not allow you to Add, Delete, and Edit records. Furthermore, they basically never show how you would perform sorting and filtering.
I think the biggest things I'm not understanding are:
1) How do you make the DataGridView perform additions, deletions, and edits on an object.
2) How do you program your object to handle additions, deletions, and edits. Do you just need methods that use ADO.Net, NHibernate, or Linq to SQL (or any other CRUD handling mechanism)?
3) How to make this filterable and sortable.
Is this overly difficult to do or why am I have so much trouble finding examples for this?

I have a window form with a label. On the form I have a dataset, bindingsoure, and tableadaptor (all created by the IDE in response to binding the text property of the label) To fill the datatable, the IDE created this: Me.ClientsTableAdapter.Fill(Me.MyDataSet.Clients) Works fine. The bound field is a phone number, stored in the db as a 10 digit numeric string I need to format this with the standard ()-, and I have a function that will do just that. How can I apply the formatting so the phone number appears in the label properly?

Is there anyone who can tell me the code for the below? Receive a lower bound and an upper bound of a range. Also receive a number of random numbers to generate. You must validate
1) the numbers are integers
2) the lower bound is less than or equal to the upper bound
3) the number to generate is positive (i.e., > 0).
Generate this many numbers in the specified range and keep track of how many of each are generated in an array of counters. Once all the numbers have been generated, display in a List Box the number, the raw count data, and the percentage of how many times the number was generated displayed with two decimal places of precision.

There is something strange going on with my datagridview.
I've a data adapter that fills the underlying data table from a database. Then I assign this datatable as datasource to the datagridview Then I add a row to the datagridview and immediately I need to update the table in my database (as soon as user leaves the newly created row).
At this moment I have more rows (+2, not +1) in my datagridview than in the underlying datatable (the new row doesn't exists yet in it so the data adapter .Update method doesn't write anything to the database).
When DataGridView's .RowLeave event fires the undelying datatable is not yet updated. I've a question - is this behavior normal?

We are binding most of our text boxes and dropdown boxes to a BINDING NAVIGATOR (with a DATA SOURCE of a DATA TABLE).When the BN is clicked through the text boxes all change immediately. We need to use some non-bound controls as well.First one is 4 radio buttons that when clicked will change a single value in a DATA TABLE.What would be the best method to do this? Should I track when the CURRENTCHANGED event occurs on the BINDING NAVIGATOR.I'm thinking that I could trick this by BINDING the SINGLE FIELD to a HIDDEN TEXTBOX and when that textbox CHANGED event occurs mess with the radio buttons and visa-versa.

I am trying to create an HTML email with an attached image using asp.net VB.
The trouble I am having is that the image is stored as binary code in a table rather than on the server.
I have the following code:
Dim myHeader As New LinkedResource(Server.MapPath("/Handler.aspx?id=237"), "image/jpeg")
I know it's the question mark in the path that's causing the problem. Does anyone know a way around this??

I have a DataTable which I want to check if values in three of the columns are unique. If not, the last column should be filled with the line number of the first appearance of the value-combination.
[Code]...
I solved this by iterating the DataTable with two nested for loops and comparing the values. While this works fine for a small amount of data, it gets pretty slow when the DataTable contains a lot of rows.My question is: What is the best/fastest solution for this problem, regarding that the amount of data can vary between let's say 100 and 20000 rows? Is there a way to do this using LINQ? (I'm not too familiar with it, but I want to learn!)
