I have been working on a quite complex multiform solution. All of a sudden the start up form (in fact any form I designate to start up) loads, displays and operates fine.
But when I try and show a form using showdialog the form displays behind the original form and I cant set focus to the ide to close it down. I have to use task manager or alt f4 while the form has the focus.
Calling different forms from this one gives the same result but other forms work fine. I dont want to redo this form as Ive done a lot of work onit. The only thing I can think of that whist I was changing the startup form in the project propertied page (file>project>properties) I unchecked the Enable applications framework checkbox.
I have a question that I hope to find a much more simpler solution to.I have two forms in my program which are named Main and Second. The Second form has several textboxs, buttons (some disabled) and comboboxes. When the Second form is opened via the Main form on the very first instance, everything works fine.
However, if I re-open the Second form after previously closing it, the disabled buttons are no longer disabled and the text controls and comboboxes show the previous values entered from the first instance which I do not want. How can I ensure that the Second form will be opened "clean" every time.
Currently I have to add instances to the onload event to do this to ensure that the form is cleared on the second instance.textbox1.text = ""textbox2.text = ""textbox3.text = ""button1.enabled = False
I have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:
Code: Public Class frmMainForm
Dim frmSecondForm As New SecondForm
Private Sub btnSecondForm_Click(blah, blah, blah) Handles blah, blah, blah
[CODE]...
Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
I have a perhaps simple problem but cannot deal with it.What would be the code for loading another form.let me explain in more details.im writing a very simple game for my project and want to load another form when "level" on my first form finishes
I create a project. However, after I close VB2010 express and then open again I can not find or open my project.Futhermore, I need to zip a project and send it.I am doing something wrong in process of saving. I do not know what?
I have a very large program I would like to write but think starting with a smaller test program would be a good idea. What I want to know is: I have a base Form from which a user clicks a button to answer a question (Answer A, B, C, or D) which if the answer is correct will pop up a "Correct! answer response in a separate window. This is ok for now, however, when the "proceed to next question" button is clicked, I would like the next question to appear in the original base form window.
Right now it pops up in a separate window and I'd rather not have 20 windows open at the end of the quiz. How do I load the next form in the same window!? Obviously it's possible and could be something I'm completely overlooking, and I've also read that I could replace all data with the next Form. I have searched "Visual Basic load form in same window" and came up with results, but none of what I'm looking for.
I'm using Visual Basic Express 2008 in Windows 7(64-Bit). I've added a datasource to my project and dragged a table from Data Sources onto my form. It automatically created a DataViewGrid and placed this statement in my form load event:
The DataGridView shows all the correct fields/columns. The .DataSource property for the DataGridView is set to the automatically created BillsBindingSource. When I preview the BillsTableAdapter, the data appears. But data does not appear when I run the app. The datagridview is empty. When I build the app and run the executable, I get a Microsoft .NET Framework error message that says: "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the applicaiton will close immediately. The 'Microsoft .ACE.OELDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine." If I click "Continue" I get my form with an empty DataGridView. What am I missing to get the data to display in the grid at run time? Oh, and I've also tried using the DataGridView in C# and I get the same problem.
I'm quite new into the programming game, I've been working on this program for a few weeks now, and its coming along, but the method I searched for entering new rows of data into my table doesn't seem to update my tables after I try entering data. I have a feeling it may be something very simple that i am over looking.
Private Sub Button4_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button4.Click Dim conn As New SqlConnection("my datasource")
I have a class that inherits the UserControl class, the class creates its own graphics such as a title bar and what not. Is it possible to show this class as a form/it's own window?
Public Class CustomForm Inherits System.Windows.Forms.UserControl 'create new instance, assign/declare vars here, blah blah
I am making a program that can backup files and folders, i cant seem to get my progressbar to show correctly, is there a way (without showing the default windows copying progressbar) to get the total MB of all files and sub folders in a directory and then make a progressbar have max = MB and how to step this progressbar? If it is not worth it, it is not fun - you say programmers are boring but i say they are worth it.
I just installed VB 2008 Express and started a project. When I saved it, closed it, and re-opened it, my form was GONE! When I try to click on Form1.vb, it's blank. The project still runs properly.
I have a simple login field, which works fine with the exception of one quirk. The form is set up with the tab order to go to the UserID first and the Password text box second. This works fine when the form is used the first time, but when the form is used the second time the focus in placed in the Password field. If the form is used a third time, focus is moved the OK button, that is each time moves to the next tab order. I even tried to set the focus in the Load event as in Me.txtUserID.Focus(), but this doesn't change the behavior. Again, I should note that I close the form and not hide the form.
using Vb Net 2008 with SQL Express 2008 R2 in windows forms. that being said, I have a syntax problem in this form, form has 2 texbox an a datagridview and also the 4 components DataSet. BindingSource. TableAdapter, BindingNavigator. When I filter by LastName no problem it work fine (it's a String) but when I try to filter by CustomerID (it's alphanumeric) I get an error "Invalid character" here is part of my code: Private Sub surnameFilterTextBox_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles surnameFilterTextBox.TextChanged
I'm populating a datatable with some data from a MySQL-server, and then binding the datatable to a datagridview. Here's my code to populate the datatable[code]...
I've been trying to figure out a simple keypress handling event.I have the code working fine after hunting for a couple of days on the net but have a problem getting rid of the obnoxious bong that comes along with hitting the ENTER key.I've attempted some solutions on the web about changing the KeyAscii to 0 but under that method I cannot even get the program to recognize the key is even being pressed. The code I have so far is as follows and I'm just trying to get rid of the audible bong.
I am writing a VB program in VB 2008 express edition, and I need to make a simple web browser used by touch screen users. I have done making the simple web browser to browser the webpage, but when I open some links they are opened in the external IE rather than the VB web browser, how can I force all web page to be opened in the VB software?
Here is a wierd case - I am making a game in Visual Basic Express 2008 with several forms. Each windows form I've given a quit command that works well to end the game. (Me.Close) However if instead I click on the big X button that windows provides in the upper right hand corner - it does not look to truely stop the program.
I'm running this program in debug mode from the MS VBE editor, but when I click that X it tells me that program is still running even though all
I have 1 form with the progress bar and 4 buttons with the following code. I would like to create another form that shows the same progress bar with the same progress. [Code]
What would be the easiest way to have a NumericUpDown control showing a double quote " after the value? It's to represent a distance in inches. From MS Word: InchesNUD.jpg
I have a problem with MDI forms and their location. I have a container form within which I open several child forms. Also note that in the container form I have a ToolStrip at the top and it is also docked to the top. In each of the child forms I have set the following properties. I have set them at design time as well but it wasn't working for some reason so I put them in the form_load event as well.[code]...
I've got three forms, one is a search form where you use textboxes to filter the datagridview to find the Client you wish to work on.The second form is basic data entry, their personal details, assets, liabilities, etc is entered on this form. The third form calculates all sorts of reports about the particular client.I filter the binding sources each time to get the appropriate clients data on the form when the particular client is chosen in the first form. When I go to print the word document I create at the button.click event, it comes up with an error saying "Conversion from string "" to type 'Integer' is not valid. I've checked countless times, tabbed in and out of the textbox, named ClientIDTextbox, but it still wont accept that there is a value in that textbox - the error is appearing on the line where I use the textbox to query data from the database using the ID in the textbox. The third form holds the print button, and the second form holds the ClientIDTextbox which is causing this error.
I'm about to try querying the binding source, instead of applying a filter, using ClientBindingSource.DataSource = dt where dt is a datatable. I'll let you know how this goes! But in the meantime, is it because I've filtered the binding source multiple times across forms that the error is appearing?
I can have all the projects existing in the same solution, and it builds fine. I can have a reference added to the project that I want to show a form from and still builds fine, every time I do something like this: Dim form_to_show as new Project2.Form1 form_to_show.show() It appears to corrupt the RESX file and stops compiling...it's really getting anoying..
How would I change it so that it only closes the current form while opening a new one? EDIT: I put [Not Resolved] Because I accidently pressed the resolved thing
Add a new report to a windows forms project. Now add the table data region from the tools. If you don't already have a strongly typed dataset displayed in the data sources view, get that ready. Now do the tried and true easy-to-use trick of dragging a field from data sources onto the table's details row.
im creating my own custom form design for some of my programs...i would like to get the basic form down and then save it as a template...before i can do that i need some help designing and creating the form. Im going for a windows office 2007 sorta look with a glowing orb at the top right. I need a few coding elements to implement first.
[Code]...
yes these are all things capable with the traditional windows form but i want something more my style. Also im creating a orb like thing in the top left and a minimize/maximize/close button at the top right. I was going to use just images...is this the best way or can i create better graphics in wpf or something like that? Some more things that i would like but dont nessarly need would be the capablity to make my form with the clear vista aero glass instead of a single static color...i dont know mutch about this but is there an easy way to extend the vista aero glass theme across forms and if so what would that look like on xp machines.
The VB2K8 Express IDE is hanging intermittantly when I click on the form's Design tab. The tab's work area goes blank and a wait cursor appears. I can't switch tabs or do anything else within the IDE at this point. I have to go to the Task Manager, end the VB taskk, and restart the IDE. VB is at SP 1 with .NET 3.5. I have no third party add-ins or controls except for the Visual Basic Power Packs which aren't being used. At this point it is annoying and I haven't lost anything yet but it is happening more frequently over time.
