I just installed VB 2008 Express and started a project.When I saved it, closed it, and re-opened it, my form was GONE! When I try to click on Form1.vb, it's blank.The project still runs properly.

I've been trying to figure out a simple keypress handling event.I have the code working fine after hunting for a couple of days on the net but have a problem getting rid of the obnoxious bong that comes along with hitting the ENTER key.I've attempted some solutions on the web about changing the KeyAscii to 0 but under that method I cannot even get the program to recognize the key is even being pressed.The code I have so far is as follows and I'm just trying to get rid of the audible bong.

I am writing a VB program in VB 2008 express edition, and I need to make a simple web browser used by touch screen users. I have done making the simple web browser to browser the webpage, but when I open some links they are opened in the external IE rather than the VB web browser, how can I force all web page to be opened in the VB software?
View 2 RepliesI have been working on a quite complex multiform solution.All of a sudden the start up form (in fact any form I designate to start up) loads, displays and operates fine.
But when I try and show a form using showdialog the form displays behind the original form and I can�t set focus to the ide to close it down. I have to use task manager or alt f4 while the form has the focus.
Calling different forms from this one gives the same result but other forms work fine. I don�t want to redo this form as Ive done a lot of work onit.The only thing I can think of that whist I was changing the startup form in the project propertied page (file>project>properties) I unchecked the �Enable applications framework checkbox.
Here is a wierd case - I am making a game in Visual Basic Express 2008 with several forms. Each windows form I've given a quit command that works well to end the game. (Me.Close) However if instead I click on the big X button that windows provides in the upper right hand corner - it does not look to truely stop the program.

View 12 RepliesSolution has 3 Class Libraries and 1 Windows Form application projects. For no apparent reason, one of the Class Libraries keeps loosing its Settings. These are primarily configuration strings. When I try to add them back in the IDE, they disappear again without explanation.

how I can implement my calendar with VB .net express 2008 and MSSQL 2008 Express. How do I get it to work with datasets, binding source etc.If I go to Properties>settings my connection string is:

I can Add the event to the calendar I have the necessary items on my form linked to my table and I can save them to my table:

I'm just using the default SQL Server Express in my vb 2008 express edition as my database server for my database operation. When I tried to update the records on my table I got a runtime error which indicates the error on this line 'myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()'and it highlights a yellow background on it. The runtime error says "SqlException was unhandled: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Number'. ".

I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.

Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.

I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.

I have SQL 2008 Express and Visual Basic 2008 Express runing on XP Professional SP2. When I select add new data source from VB I don't have the option to connect to SQL Server 2008 express to get at the to SQL Server Database. I also notice that the OLE DB connector is not availble as a data connector. Can somebody please confirm that VB 2008 Express can connect directly to SQL Server 2008 Express and how I can achieve it.

I 'm a beginner and have a project that I'm using to turn lights on and off. I need to use separate forms for display on remote monitors. My problem is each form needs the same serial port open to work and the port won't open unless it's closed in the previous form. Using a module works for opening and closing the port, but only for one round. If I try to revisit a form I already accessed it doesn't work.

I am trying to change forms with timers, but after I got beyond 2 forms the timers would not work for a 3rd form. One time it did display third form but showed second form right after it.

What I want to know is: I have a base Form from which a user clicks a button to answer a question (Answer A, B, C, or D) which if the answer is correct will pop up a "Correct! answer response in a separate window. This is ok for now, however, when the "proceed to next question" button is clicked, I would like the next question to appear in the original base form window.
Right now it pops up in a separate window and I'd rather not have 20 windows open at the end of the quiz. How do I load the next form in the same window!? Obviously it's possible and could be something I'm completely overlooking, and I've also read that I could replace all data with the next Form. I have searched "Visual Basic load form in same window" and came up with results, but none of what I'm looking for.

View 3 RepliesI'm currently working on an VB.net application using Win forms and SQL Server Express 2008. One of the major functions of our program is to generate work orders for field engineers. These engineers typically work in a factory and have to walk around the factory to complete these work orders doing things such as recording pressures and voltages of certain equipment. Right now they are printing out the work orders and writing down these values then entering them into the computer when they get back from doing the work.
We would like them to have some sort of handheld device we could push their work orders out to that would allow them to enter values/complete work orders and then come back and sync up with our app. Something like an ipod touch or maybe a bit larger seems like a good kind of device. Not really sure what kind of device would work for this and what OS it should run. I'm guessing it will be easiest if I can get something that can run SQL server on it. Also, how would I implement something like this?
I am using visual basic and when I try to hide Navigation bar, I am not able to, it is disabled. Ok I tried to turned it off going to "all languages", althought I unchecked the setting. It didn't disappear. I restarted visual studio, closed all open classes. It is just visual basic, when I try with c# I can hide and show it.
