Forms :: Add The Items To The Combobox Using The Properties Box?
Dec 12, 2011
I am totally new to VB.NET and Visual Studio. I am creating a new form, which includes a combobox. I have figured out how to add the items to the combobox using the properties box, but I would rather code them. I tried the below code, but no luck. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Me.cboSTATUS.Items.Add("A")

I found this in the internet to add values to a combobox:
Private Sub ComboBox_Matricula_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles ComboBox_Matricula.KeyPress
If e.KeyChar = Chr(Keys.Enter) Then
[code]....
how can I remove this by marking/ touching with mouse one value and click on the keyboard "del"?

I know how to do what is in the subject already, but I want to do it a different way than what is stated in the subject. What I want to do is be able to create multiple items with different names and then load the names into a listbox. When I select the item in the listbox with the name, such as Item1, it will put the text from the control named Item1 into a textbox.
I am clueless as to how I could accomplish this. What I am doing is adding Items to a menustrip's dropdown Item, then adding items to the dropdown items. So I would have the item collection such as:
One
Two
Three
So I could choose the item in the listbox with the text "Three" and I could load several properties of the item Three. Such as Three.text, Three.Tag, and Three.Name. And I could also edit these. And then when Three is chosen in the listbox, I could add sub items to it.
So it would look like this in my perspective(Although the code would not work)
Dim tsmBookmarks_SubItem As New ToolStripMenuItem
(Listbox1.selecteditem).DropDownItems.Add(tsmBookmarks_SubItem)
how to convert string to a control name?

I am using VB.NET together with ADO.NET to create a program. I have set my TableAdapters as needed and bound the correct tables-columns to my comboboxes. My problem though is this:My combobox2 item is bound to a datatable. The table adapter's Fill method (the select command basicaly) includes a public variable in the where clause to fetch the correct results. I ll put some code here to clarify it a bit more.Public Class Frm_inv

I'm making a combobox on a form. I want the combobox to have a list of choices from a table in a db. The two columns are a String and a Date. I want the date column to only show the year. I'm hoping I have the code right as it is above, but I'm not positive I've done the whole date thing right.

Passing data between forms without any public methods or properties on the forms. everything but the "Controller" class, which I would like you furnish. I just changed the title from "Intermediate" to "Beginner" This solution is an example of the Observer Pattern. The "Controller" class is the "observed" class, which in this case means it publishes events.
' File Definitions.vb
Public Delegate Sub MessageDelegate(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As MessageEventArgs)
Public Class MessageEventArgs : Inherits EventArgs
Public Message As String
[CODE]...
The program should initially display Form1, and Form2. Clicking of the button on either form will modify the Title Text of both forms. I think that you will find the final end result to be pretty neat, as it works with any number of open forms not just two. I think asking for the Controller class is easier than asking for the code in the forms. My solution for Controller class has 7 lines of content, 9 lines if you include Class, EndClass. A minimal solution could achieved with only 4 lines of content, but it would a textbook example of bad programming.

I have a form in my vb.net application used to take the data about the returned stock. The form contains two comboboxes. One, named combobox5, contains invoice numbers and the other, named combobox3, contains party codes. Both the comboboxes are pre_loaded using sqldataadapter.
Now what i want is to change the party code in combobox3 when the invoice number is changed in combobox5. Elaborating it further, When Stock is issued the party code is stored along with the invoice number to keep track of to which party was the stock issued. Now when stock is returned i want to keep track that which party has returned the stock and i want that the party code should be automatically selected when the invoice number is changed and it should be what is stored in the database against that particular invoice number....
I'm using the following code for doing so:
Private Sub ComboBox5_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ComboBox5.SelectedIndexChanged
' defines a new connection to the database
Dim con As New SqlConnection("Data Source=TAHA;Initial Catalog=ADT;Integrated Security=True")
[Code].....

However, the problem comes after that is for example, it shows C11 --> C110 --> C12, etc. I believe because it counts from left to right. So how can I solve this problem.

How would I remove an item from the listbox.. I used the code below to populate using a class with description and value properties.
I cant use listbox.items.indexOf("listitem1") to get index
I cant use listbox.items.remove("listitem1")
If I use listitem.items.removeAt(1) it works of course. How can I get my index in this case?

I would like to add the properties "visible" and "enabled" to the Items object of a combobox in VB .Net so that I can hide or disable individual line items of the combobox. I have created the class "CustomListItem" that inherits the combobox.objectcollection. I have also created the class "CustomComboBox". Now, I would like to override the custombox.Items object with my custom one.

We have an application that has a main form with a map on it. Right now the paradigm is to have forms that are displayed using menu items to display information to the user. Most of these forms are modal forms, but a couple are non-modal forms that interact with the map. For some of the forms, it really would make for a better user experience if we could dock them in the main form of the app and allow the user to see both the form and the map. For instance. We could have a list of map features in a docked window, and select one of the items on the list and have the map zoom to that feature. Or do the reverse: let the users select a map item and have a docked window that shows details of the feature. Sounds great, but I wonder about what sort of gotchas we may encounter. In particular, what if we have two windows docked at the same time? Could we get tangled up in our event code?

Using vb.net (vs2005), how do I populate a combo box with multiple property values from an object? Right now I'm iterating a collection of objects and adding the name property of each object to the combo box. I'd like to add multiple properties from the object to the list. For now, I'd be happy if they appeared comma separated in the list.

I mean, like if someone would go to the network settings - right click on the appropriate connection, and go to the properties. For a file properties, one can call the properties by using the shellexecuteinfo function.

I have a combo box on my application (working with VB.net) called CmbAttendantstatus. I have sent the dropdownstyle = dropdownlist at the Properties level of the combobox.
There are 200 field types e.g;
Current Attendant
Ever Attendant
Never Attendant etc
The issue is I can only select one from the list, fine, but I want to be able to type the first letter on the combobox and it takes me to the nearest field type rather than looking through the entire drop list. For example I want Never Attendant, I just need to type N and the drop list takes me to anything starting from N and if I add E for example any field starting with NE shows up for selection. Presently, when the dropdownlist is selected you are not allowed to type anything...
