I wanted to let the users to select their desired wallpapers dynamically in the window main form. Is it possible? Funtional spec:
1. Let the users to select their desired wallpapers from any directory.
2. Save the wallpaper in the database.
3. Load the wallpaper in the main form after login sucessful.
Am devloping an application with multiple forms, which reside on top of a main form. i.e the main application window. The 'child' forms do not need to be linked in any way as they do not pass information to the parent form, as all the parent form does is act as main window.Now I would like to know what is the correct way for the 'main window' form acting as a container for the other forms? So that all the smaller secondary forms stay focused on top of the main application form, that when the main window is minimized, so these forms should do also etc..
I have read other posts and they mention, leaving all the forms standard i.e. IsMdiContainer = False and then using form.showDialog() to call the secondary forms. This did not work for me as what happens is that as soon as I give focus to the main app form, the secondary form disappears underneath.I tired making the main app form IsMdiContainer = True and when it loads calling:
frmMemberForm.MdiParent = Me
Now this works, because I can click off the form and minimize the app etc and the frmMemberForm doesn't disappear. However if i close the MemberForm and reopen it, it looses this property and once again when it looses focus, it will disappear.
I have create a project with one main form window and also i have to use a number of other forms as well. now i want to open these other forms inside the main window and not outside. I'm using Visual Studio .NET 2010 as developing environment.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to make a form that can be used to allow users select file(s) from one control and drag them to another. I am stuck. I have done a bunch of research and now have a form that allows the user to select a directory and display the files in a listbox. It works intermittently. The select directory window works when I click the Browse button and it reports that it found a number of files. But they are not in the listbox. When I walk thought the code in DeBug the files are listed.

Right now I have tried the property Topmost = True but the thing about that I really do not like is it puts the form above every single windows form. I only want the form to be the topmost of my application. The showdialog also will not work because I no longer have access to my main form with click events.

I am having a difficulty in this login form that I have made. The same as the premade template login in VB 2008 which I am using right now.Here's what happens when I run the program Log in form open > Log in successful > Main window appears *The login form still does not disappear.
I tried hiding it via me.hide() Log in form open > log in successful > Main window appears > log in form disappear.*Now the problem is that I cant close the whole application because the login form is still there only hidden. Again I tried putting in the "EXIT" button the code me.close() login.close()Log in form open > log in successful > Main window appears > log in form disappears > Exit application *Now everything seems to be ok now and then I found another problem.Instead of clicking the exit button I tried clicking the X button on the main window. There I found out that it only closes the main window. Therefore not closing the whole application because the login form is still hidden.
i made an application in VB2010 where the application should be always on top above one specific window. Anyway i set the property of the main form to "topmost = true". The application is also writing some data to excel which is not a problem but the excel workbook is behind the main form which is on top. Is there any way to put the excel window on top above the main form?

I want to click settings and have it open another windows form linked to the main windows form with the menustrip in order to set certain parameters. How do I link these two boxes using the settings menu strip?

It opens up the new form, but now I can not interact with my main form. It will not accept focus or allow me to interact with it.
Do I need to change the form type?
I have to write an application that consists of mainly one main form, but several different things I wanna display. Pretty standard I guess. So there is a menu, some controls, and the main stuff below (ranging form graphs, tables, dropdown boxes, print preview, etc). I would like to use it like one would use frames in html, design an object that is limited to a box or panel that I define. The literature I have does not give me a clear idea of how to do this (yet). The most obvious seem to be the use of MDI, open a predefined form with no borders, maximize it before showing and remove all minimize/maximize options. But that does not work so well. The form inside the MDI parent does not fit the size that is given for it when it is loaded. e.g.

So my main question is: Is MDI the way to go here at all or are there better/easyer ways to achieve this? If MDI is the way to go, how do I sucessfully restrict a child form inside another object, without giving the user any opportunity to resize (i noticed that I have minnimize/maximize/close buttons, even if I disable them on the child forms themselves)
I have a group of buttons all with different labels. I want to have each of these specific buttons open up the same form, but my problem is when I write the code of form1.show it pops open twenty or so different windows. How to I make one button open just one window?
View 15 RepliesI'm currently working on an application that allows users to select picture files and then categorize them into folders. Now I'm having two issues that are probably simple to fix but I only have a year of experience with vb so I just don't know how to fix them. The first and biggest issue is that once the user has selected and categorized a file, I want the program to select the next file in the folder that the first file was moved from. This way the number of clicks required is minimized. However I have no clue what I would need to do in order to accomplish this. Also, my other problem is that I want to be able to find the indexof a quotation mark but whenever I put it in the parameter it just reads it as a quote.

One the login screen, after the username/password is entered and OK is pressed, I try to open the a connection string. Obviously if the connection fails, the user has entered the incorrect credentials. If the credentials are ok, True is returned and I then open up the Main form that shows the correct items for the logged in user.

View 2 RepliesI'm working on a project and my boss insists I use a DataGrid for this. The grid holds information for work orders, one of the cols has a check box in it. I need the user to be able to select any number of those checkboxes/rows and then return a value to the table "stamping" that users ID. This is what I have so far to get the grids populated... I'm using 2005 with a 2000 Access Database if that helps. Though this will be changed to SQL Server once we get it working (yay more work)...

I removed the code from the second grid to make it easier to read, obviously once I can get one to work the second shouldn't be as much trouble.
This is the check box: dgvNewBiz.Columns(1).HeaderText = "Select"At this point if someone knows how to get it to recognize the click event of the check box and pass that row info to a variable that would be super as I'm sure I could probably figure it out from there.

I have a VB.NET application that uses Managed DirectSound to capture audio.Everything works just fine until (a) the application is minimized or (b) the application is completey obstructed (covered) by another window.
The thing is that the CaptureBufferDescription structure does not include a GlobalFocus property so I don't know what to do to let my application continue capturing when the main window is hidden.
Here's the basic initialization code I'm using:

I was a vb6 user, done a few projects only with forums Now i am moving to vb.net(vb2010) and i have some trouble.Lets say we have a form(form1), a module(mod1) and a textbox on the form1.
i want to start a Sub (DoWork) in the module but in a new thread.

The DoWork sub does some stuff and when it's finished i want to change the text of a textbox1 in the main form and start another sub (DoWork2) on the main form under the main thread not the one DoWork is running under.

View 1 RepliesI have a splash screen, the default from Visual studio. It loads up, is shown for a few seconds, then, when it disappears, the main form is loaded. Now here is the problem: the main form appears in the back, behind the windows explorer window I load the application from.
The weird thing is that this only happens on some computers, particularly Windows XP machines.I tried a lot of things like BringToFront() or TopMost = true in the on Load event of the form but nothing seems to change this.
