View 2 Repliesi have a program im working on that has 68 different buttons on 1 form. each button opens a seperate form. each from opened from the buttons starts with "helmet_" i need a way to only allow one form with that starting name to be open at a time. otherwise you could open all 68 forms at once and that would cause issues.

But when i start to type in the file name box a list of the files that are in the folder appear . if i click on one of them files and click open the image file will properly go into the picture box in the program. I have an external library that processes image files. I'm running it against thousands of images, and every now and then the library gets stuck on certain images. If I need to skip an image here or there, no problem, but I can't have the process get locked up, so I want to impose a maximum amount of time that the process is allowed to take for each image before I force it to give up and move on to the next image.
I've got my program to run a set of code based between certain variables. The variables are:
RBM (Radiobutton for male gender)
RBF (Radiobutton for female gender)
Based on that, it runs a new sub which then does a select case based on ClassBox (Listbox) index.
Now here is what I don't get. When I run the code, it works flawlessly except on ONE of the case selects.

If I select anything, it loads the correct directory. The error isn't the case selects, I put them in there in case I missed something. I ran debugger with breakpoints so I could see if the data was getting crossed wrong. When I select index 4 on the female sub it loads the correct directory and I set a breakpoint for "OFD1.InitialDirectory = Race" which Race showed the correct directory, but when the OFD1 came up, it's not the folder 91 (Index 4 in female), it goes to 80 (Index 7 in male) which isn't even a female option and it's not the same index in the male section either.
I have a process that recieves a request and issues a response. Sometimes createing the response is taking too long. I would like to start the request, and after 8 seconds, if the response has been created, I would abort the process and send back a generic message.

The problem is that when the information is really long it spans the entire width of the screen and is difficult to read, Is there any way to limit the size of the tooltip?I was thinking one way may be to insert linefeeds at points beyond a certain width -- messy, but it would work.

When some one wants to view the "About" form, it's called like this:

But my function doesn't stop them from creating an unlimited number of about windows and I need to put that limit to one form.
For example, I will have a login screen, but I don't want them logging in over and over again in different accounts because my subroutine doesn't stop a form from being created/opened more than once.

I've looked around and so far none of the solultions are all that simple and all require some fiddling with handles and things.
I have a form on which the user selects a file using an openFileDialog. The selected filepath is then processed, which may take 10-20 seconds before the user is presented with the results.I'm finding that the once the user selects the file (clicking the OK button on the openFileDialog), the openFileDialog remains open until all of the processing going on in the background is completed. Once the processing has finished the openFileDialog disappears and the results are shown.The problem is that whilst the openFileDialog remains open on screen, it is not apparent to the user that anything is happening in the background. I do actually have a textbox which updates the user with messages showing the progress. However the openFileDialog hides the messages until it closes, essentially making the progress messages useless.What I'm trying to do is have the openFileDialog close immediately that the user selects a file. Then the processing can continue without the openFileDialog obscuring my form.

I have an application with a main form, on loading the main form asks the user to select a file to work with. I have now been asked to add a splashscreen to the project so did the following:
* Right clicked in solution explorer and added the splashscreen
* Went into project properties and added the splashscreen to the dropdown for splashscreen and then clicked "View Application Events"
Within here I have added the following

Now when I run the application the splash screen shows but within, a second the openfiledialog has appeared and hides the splash screen.
I have files that start with unique numbers and are word documents. Say the document starts with "1234567" is there a way to make the OpenFileDialog filter to where only all the .doc files that start with "1234567" show up?

This works perfectly, but every first time the app start and I open the second form, on my primary screen (right side) I see the border of the second form. When I click the button again, the form is hidden, and when I click it again, it appears again but then the border is gone.

I am not able to find the Exclude Command in VB 2010 Express. I have no idea which version of Visual Studio it is working with. I've got one 217MB VB 2010 Express file and many 2008 VB Express files with one of them measuring 31 MB. There many other SQL files and .Net Files.
View 4 RepliesWe have a program called MasterPack (old school dos style) which we generate quotes from and this picks up a quote.doc in a folder called Quotes in the C drive which is a mail merge document and populates all the fields. There are 3 files in this Quotes folder,quote.doc, QUOTE.txt, and quote.hedRecently one of my employees had his PC upgraded to a new unit and it came with Office 2007 (previously used 2003) and now we have this run time errorSo what happens now is we go through the steps and then it gets to the "Opening this document will run the following SQL command" and click Yes to continue, the SQL msg comes up again (that never happened before) so we click yes again. It thinks then opens the word doc and populates the fields but then the run time error window pops up and if we choose "End" the merge fields are not populated and return to the merge field names EG. <<CustName>> etc etc.
