View 2 RepliesI have a problem with an App I am writing that lists information about various media on your computer and lets you launch it right from the app. My problem is, when launching an intensive process, like a game for instance, it is desirable to shut down the app to not hog precious resources. Here is the code i have so far...
[Code]...
This code works fine, but for one small detail. The app exits before the desired process starts, thus cancelling out the process all together. My question is, how do I get the app to wait for the process to start before exiting?
Can you kindly tell me why I am getting a runtime exception when trying to run this code?

I'm currently making a Computer Cleaner, my program launch's rundll32.exe's to clean IE's history.
Like to clear the add-on settings I would put:
Shell("RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 4351")
But I need to wait for it to wait before letting it to go on to the next thing like clear cookies, which would be: Shell("RunDll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 2")
how do you show the vista waiting wheel close to the mouse ( in a wpf application)
View 1 RepliesWhat is the proper way to call up a form and wait until it receives a replay before moving onto the next code step? [Code] Now lf is the login form that waits for the users password and then, depending on if its correct or not when they hit OK it should send back a true or false (isLogedIn). Currently i do not know how to have the code wait until it receives something from the login form before moving onto the next code.
If i use my old code here:
Do Until isLogedIn = True
isLogedIn = isLogedIn
intX = intX + 1
Loop
It never ends if the user puts in a false login password so it just keeps waiting.
I have three events to fire on button click. after running the first event i want to wait for 30sec to wait for nex event to fire. how i can wait( i mean looping for 30 secs).
View 4 RepliesI have a strange issue when binding a combobox in a WPF window.I am loading a List object, to populate the combobox, through it's .ItemsSource, on Window Load, however, it does not populate.At least, not until the arrow is clicked on. Once the arrow is clicked on, the window freezes up, and after a minute or so, the 4000+ records are displayed in it.Now, the list gets loaded, however, when I click on the combobox it takes awhile for it to render, so how can I show a waitcursor while it is rendering the list?Here's the Xaml for it:
<ComboBox Grid.Column="1"
HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="3" Name="tUser" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"
DisplayMemberPath="UsersName" SelectedValuePath="UserID" SelectedValue="0"/>
And the code-behind is:
Private Sub CreateTask_Loaded(sender As Object, e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles Me.Loaded
Using New WaitCursor
_LA.Show()
Me.tOrder.ItemsSource = GetOrderList()

When user click it, it will bring a second form with a waiting animated gif sitted into picturebox..but at the same time it will call processingcard.dll to link to the bank and get results. when finish getting results, the form2 will be closed. if i just show form 2 with animated gif 'Please wait...while processing" when i click button, it works fine[code]...
View 4 RepliesI am using Process.Start in my application, which is working great.My only problem is, the program it "starts", is an installer, which takes about 5 minutes to install. I woud really like to hide all my forms and only show one that says "please wait", but i cant seem to get it to stay there till the process has finished.
View 2 RepliesI have a simple GUI form to hide / show / minimize / terminate / force terminate Processes. i can do all well but for show and hide i need the MainWindowHandle to show or hide it
So here is hide process code:
Dim Proc As New Process = Process.GetProcessesById(List.SelectedRows(0).Cells(1))
Dim hwnd = Proc.MainWindowHandle
ShowWindow(hwnd,0)
If i try the same with show code:
Dim Proc As New Process = Process.GetProcessesById(List.SelectedRows(0).Cells(1))
Dim hwnd = Proc.MainWindowHandle
ShowWindow(hwnd,9)
The MainWindowHandle become 0 cuz its hidden is there is any other way to get the MainWindowHandle of Process ?
I'm working on a website where we'll be getting a lot of videos to be uploaded. To keep things simple and secure, I'm just writing VB.net windows app to suck all the files in a directory in, allow you to set some options, and start the encode by spawning a new FFMpeg process.

What I'm trying to do is show a form while a background process is running. Similar to a progress bar but not a progress bar. We have a form that has an animated gif (customer request) and that's it. no other controls. They want this form to show while the processing in the background is running.
View 5 RepliesIm trying to show animated gif during busy process or loading. but it isn;t working rite. the gif stops to animate when loading instead and animates only when no loading is n progress. what i have done is to show formB from the formA. i load the gif into the picbox in formA and crete a new thread which will be opening another formB.
dim loadThread As Threading.Thread
LoadingGif()
loadThread = New Threading.Thread(AddressOf loadingForm)
loadThread.Start(formB)
but the gif doesn;t move at all unless another form is displayed.
I have created a listbox with several items that when a button is clicked, it opens up the application that uses that file and then starts the file. this all works fine, but I wanted to know if there is a way to show a marquee-type progress bar for each process as it's being opened?
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If CheckedListBox1.SelectedItem = "ITEM ONE" Then
Process.Start("c:\DIRECTORY\ITEMONE.exe")
End If

I have a form that I will be using to copy directories of photos from memory cards to locations on a computer. I would like to add a progress bar to the application to show the progress of the copying in real time. This is the code that I use to copy the directory in the first place
Dim SourceDir As String = SourceTextBox.Text
Dim DestinationDir As String = DestinationTextbox.Text
If System.IO.Directory.Exists(DestinationDir) Then
My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyDirectory(SourceDir, DestinationDir,)
Else
My.Computer.FileSystem.CreateDirectory(Destination Dir)
My.Computer.FileSystem.CopyDirectory(SourceDir, DestinationDir)
I want the program to display the text "Waiting for connection..." while the program is actually waiting for a connection. However, when I run the program, the form doesn't even appear because the TCPListener is waiting. What can I do to have the program appear and show the text while it's waiting for a connection?
Imports System.Net.Sockets
Imports System.IO
Public Class frmMain
Dim client As TcpClient

View 4 RepliesI've got a winform that has a button that runs an exe from the command prompt (process). Since the cmd window pops up and goes away so fast, I need to kno if there's a way to capture the messages that were sent in the cmd window, within my Windows form. (like make it write to a log file)
View 1 RepliesI am having a bit similar task, which I am not able to get thru. I'll explain..I have two apps A and B, B is kind of a reminder application which runs in the background..but that is not important here, thing is when App B is open, it has a button which takes user to App A, I am doing that using Process.Start("A.exe") all good so far. Problem is I need to make sure that if any other instance of App A is running then I need to jump to that instance. I am able to check for the instance running using Process.GetProcesses() but I am not able to set focus to that running instance.
View 1 RepliesI have a user interface with pushbuttons, each starting a different process. Can I manage these pushbuttons via usb numpad? i.e. if 1 is pressed at numpad, pushbutton 1 will be clicked (so process 1 will start); if 2 is pressed at numpad pushbutton is 2 will be clicked and so on.

View 4 RepliesI have written a windows service that is meant to launch a notepad when a specific action happens. The problem i have is that even though the service launches notepad, the actual notepad it self is NOT visible. I know that it has been launced because i can see the process in the task manager. By the way the process is listed as a SYSTEM process rather than a process under my user name (i believe that is because my process is a "LocalSystem" one).
View 4 Replieshat i am trying to accomplish is execute a dos command with the following
frmStatusBar.Show()
' Set start information.
Dim start_info As New ProcessStartInfo(sOutput)

well, I must say I am a very beginner but want to get better, that is why I joined this forum.Anyway, I made a form with a button that opens a new form and a hidden cmd window (it closes it self automaticly).on the new form I have a label that says if "the program is running". I want that label to change to "Done!" when the process does not exist anymore.
View 2 RepliesProcess.Start("<pathname>") works fine. But I need to open the file inside my application alone. Is that possible? If so How??
View 1 RepliesI am using Visual Studio express 2008 to load a form, perform a task at a given interval. My problem is:
1) I am able to populate a textbox with the desired text (a pathname);
2) I can get the timer event to work perfectly;
3) The problem arises when the timer conditions are met and I need to perform a task based on the value of the text box.
4) The value from the textbox becomes lost and when i hold my mouse cursor over the textbox:

On a side note, the script runs perfectly when i hard code in the pathname, but this doesnt suit the work i would like this script to do.
on the loan of my application i created a background_worker to pre-load some of my child forms. here is the problem - it seems that the forms gets loaded into the second process and it wont have any affects on the original process .
In another words when i try to show the preloaded form nothing is displayed. How can i ask the background process to "Merge" with the main process when it is completed! i am not sure if merge is the best word to describe what i am trying to do here!!!
also if i try to re load the form that was created by the main process i will get exception saying you can't change one some that was created by another process
