I'm a VB beginner. The following image comes from a Mac application that I've developed. This window lists all visible files and their icons for a particular folder.

I deleted 3 old pictures from my resource folder. When building compiler alerted me to missing resources. Stupidly i manually edited the file and all my Toolbar icons are gone. Interesting enough the menu strip text all vanished and so did my status strip text. I managed to add back the deleted lines but still the same. If i delete the toolstrip all its buttons remain. Manually deleting each control, rewriting we are talking hours and hours of work.
View 5 RepliesTortoiseSVN and Dropbox both have Windows shell extensions that make file icons within Windows Explorer show a small icon beside the main one, showing the file's status - has it been synced, etc How can I make my application show icons beside files like that using the Windows API? Or is there some file attribute to do that?
View 1 Repliesi want to be able to view files like window explorer does.. i have tried a webbrowser, except i don't like the left side menu in the windows explorer unless it shows folders. in my case, i would like to add folder icons. reply in detail if the code is complicated, on what actual toolbar items and imports do i need to do such.

View 3 RepliesHi everyone. I'm new to VB8 and I have been learning as much as I could. I goal is to create an application where I can drag and drop a folder and then an icon that i want the current folder icon to change to- all this for vista/W7. My goal is to create the "desktop.ini" to change the folder icon as well as have vista/W7 recognize the change.

I've read how to drag and drop folders here- http:[url]....but i am still figuring out how to limit the format.
I have a program where I'm trying to clone icons in a folder and represent the files in a listview on a form. I've tried using msdn, google and F1 help to figure this out, but I don't seem to be getting it.Here's the code I have so far, but I'm getting error that object not set to an instance of the object.

View 1 RepliesI was wondering if you could point me in the right direction as far as developing a super simple plugin for MS Project (both 2007, which uses the old style ribbon, and 2010 which uses the new ribbon). What I need to implement: create an executable that installs a new button, with a specific icon, in some per-determined section of the ribbon
when the user presses the button MS project needs to save a file in a specific format and location and then call a batch file.
that's it - pretty basic, right? Turns out, I know nothing about this space - so apologies in advance for how trivial this may be. Note: I'm not tied to a specific language - whatever is simpler / faster will do. BTW, does anyone sell components like this one? I don't necessarily need to code this if there's decent stuff out there for sale.
I've tried absolutely everything and i've searched for a while on here too datagridview1 object on my form however it has appro 130,000 records and i need to export them to the following .. csv / xls / xlsxI've tried several pieces of code and searched for at least a day trying to find something suitable and quick enough to export all records.
View 9 RepliesI am new to VB, I am currently trying to make a basic Lottery application for me and a few friends. I have a couple of questions regarding that. Basically the reqs are:
1) we should be able to input for 2 lotteries (super 7 and pick 3) the amount of money spend individually. IN a separate menu Should be able to input the winning numbers for past draws, in a notepad or access.
2) Should be able to see the most picked 3 numbers in the previous draws for both the lotteries.
Question. Say I have menu entries: Lotteries- Pick 3 and Super 7. This is my main form. If I go pick 3, enter last draw numbers should it open up a new form or can I just repaint and work in the same form?
How to retrieve file icons associated with the file types and add them with the items of Listview in vb.net

So Im a student and I need some help I have a question "Write a program that displays a list of Super Bowl winners ordered by the number of games won." View 12 RepliesI've always had to use a program that does this stuff for me, but I'd like to just make my own program that does this. I've already got the individual bitmap images of the 3 sizes (16x16, 32x32 and 48x48) for the icon file and I usually find use some shareware program to create the icon file from the multiple bitmap images for me but I'm wondering if it's possible in .Net to create an icon file (*.ico) that contains multiple physical icons in it.
View 12 RepliesI've tried using the method in the link below, but unfortunately this only works with .exe files. I want to be able to display icons from all filetypes in picturebox's.

So I was wondering if maybe there's a quick edit I can do in the method above to make it work, or even a completely different way of doing it?
Inside the program I have a text box in which a user puts in the filepath to a textfile that the program then uses as a series of commands to perform tasks. This works perfectly, however what I would like to to do to make my program faster is associate the file extension .gam with the program, so when a user clicks a .gam file it opens the program and automatically sets said file's location into the text field, as opposed to using the browse button I added and browsing to said file everytime they run the program.
Through this a user could then make a shortcut to said .gam file and run it right from their desktop, as opposed to rummaging around in folders and whatnot. At the moment my method has been thus, I have 2 folders of importance I have archived with the .exe, Gambits Pro.exe, these are: Gambits, and Control, inside of the Gambits folder is the default storage location for .gam files, as when you click the browse button its default directory is that folder. I have also added a few example files in said folder for a user when they download the program.

The thing is im making formless application, thats visible in tray only.. But i have like 21 icons for default functions.. and when my program launches all icons with the exe file is loaded in RAM. Is there a way to use an external resources file, where all the icons is stored, so when application needs one it takes it from rscx file and loads it, and when it needs other icon it releases the one taken and takes other.. Im asking this not just for ico files, but for any file types that can be stored in my.resources..

I want to write a program to do Markov chain, but my states are quite large. First of all I calculate all the transition probabilities and revenues for all states(1381860 total states), and store in a multidimensional array. Public RevArr(0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As Long
After that the iteration of markov chain should use these as inputs to calculate the steady-state probabilities. But when I try to run the main code I got this error.Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
The following is the declaration of second array I add just another dimension for storing all the iterations, but I get this error. Dim stateprob(IT + 1, 0 To 9, 0 To 750, 0 To 282) As single

I found this code but can't use it as its VB6 and I need VB 2008. I tried changing it but can't seem to get anywhere.
Code:
Private Sub List1_OLEDragDrop(Data As DataObject, Effect As Long, Button As Integer, Shift As Integer, X As Single, Y As Single)
Dim vFile As Variant
If Data.GetFormat(vbCFFiles) Then
For Each vFile In Data.Files
List1.AddItem vFile
Next vFile
End If
End Sub
I have been trying to find code that will enable me to get default icons for a treeview in a computer browser programme. like the WINDOWS browser(Not the internet one but the "Windows Explorer" one) but i can't get icons that are allready there
View 4 RepliesI'm sick of my EXE files only looking decent in one view in explorer (ie List or Tiles etc) because I can only figure out how to specify one icon file for my projects so it has to be a specific size and if its too big it looks rubbish at smaller sizes in explorer, and vice versa if its too small. So how can I embed more than one icon file and make it automatically select the correct one to display in explorer depending on the view? I believe you can store more than one icon in an ICO file, so do you have to just combine the various size icons into one ICO and then explorer will automatically select the correct sized on? Or is it something you have to do within the VB project?
