Get Specific File Info Using DSOfile?
Aug 16, 2010
So I downloaded the dsofile demo and source from microsoft and up-converted the project to vs9. When I open an office document in the file reader it get the error code 80040154. On Microsft Help and Support there is nothing listed aboutthe code. I tried opening a docx file than a doc file. Also many other file types. I used the uneditied demo of the dsofile and was able to open files.
So how in visual basic 2008 do i use dsofile to get file information. Such as a album of a song from a mp3 file.

I am working on a media player, and I would like to setup a local playlist feature. I am using a single ListBox and its "Display-" and "Value-Member" properties. The display is the song's Artist and Name, and the value is the song's file path (i.e 'C:UsersUSERMusicetc.').To write the file path to the .txt file, I believe I can use the following code:[code]

I am trying to implement a custom printing solution for a client. What he wants is to have one button print a certain set of info to a specific printer and specific printer tray, connected to the client machine. Another button will print a similar set of info, to the same printer, but a different tray.
One tray is preloaded with regular 8.5"x11" paper, and the other is loaded with legal paper, 8.5"x14". I've found some instructions on how to do this: [URL]. So, I've implemented the code, and am able to enumerate the printers attached to the client machine, and their trays.
I've setup some web.config settings for the client to enter the names of his printer and specific trays (in this case, tray 1 and tray 3). This code I've written runs and works correctly, printing the document without error. The problem I am having is that even though I have selected the tray for legal paper, all the info instead prints on regular paper, the printer seems to be ignoring my instruction to print onto legal paper.
Here is the code:
Imports System.Drawing
Imports System.Drawing.Printing
....
Private printFont As Font
Private ds As dsSummons
Private formToPrint As FormType
[Code] .....
I first tried "pd.DefaultPageSettings.PaperSource = PSource" but that didn't seem to work. I also tried setting "pd.PrinterSettings.DefaultPageSettings.PaperSource = PSource" but that doesn't seem to work either..

I am new to the world of VB.NET and have been tasked to put together a little program to search a directory of about 2000 Excel spreadsheets and put together a list to display based on the value of a Custom Document Property within that spreadsheet file. Given that I am far from a computer programmer by education or trade, this has been an adventure.
I've gotten it to work, the results are fine. The problem is, it takes well over a minute to run. It is being run over a LAN connection. When I run it locally (using a 'test' directory of about 300 files) it executes in about 4 seconds.I'm not sure even what to expect as a reasonable execution speed, so I thought I would ask here. The code is below, if anyone thinks changes there might be of use in speeding things up.
Private Sub listByPt()
Dim di As New IO.DirectoryInfo(dir_loc)
Dim aryFiles As IO.FileInfo() = di.GetFiles("*" & ext_to_check)[code]....

My app has a main form from which the user can set specific 'setup' information for things such as ports and IP addresses, plus it gives them visibility to a table that is used in conjunction with the TCPListener/responder. The program receives a request for information which it gets from the TCPListener, it gets the requested information and sends back the requested information. It all works great, but I need to move it into the background. When the listener starts, the app is basically locked from any user interface (including the ability to close the form and terminate the process).
What I currently have is:
A class called MyTcpListener with a shared sub 'RequestRespond'
From the main form, there is simply a button labeled "START" for the user. When the user clicks on start I call the listener by:
MyTcpListener.RequestRespond(LocalPort)

i'm trying to make a program that searches for a specific file in a specific file, so when the program loads it "writes" in checked list box the names of the drives installed to the computer, but what i want to do is: when the user checks the box, i want it to search for the file in that drive, but i don't know how to do it...
I'm using:
Imports System.IO
Imports System.Collections.ObjectModel
Public Class Form1
[Code].....
how to make it search in the other drives using the checked listbox?

I wonder if it is possible to find a specific row and specific columns in data base file (Access) . You see , I am using a DataGridView control to show only SOME of the columns (fields) of a table from an Access file . For example , lets say that in the DataGridView control I only show the following fields :Field1 , Field2 and Field3 .Now , when the user selects an entry in the DataGridView control , I want to insert the text from Field4 into a text box on the form .
The problem , however , is that I don't know how to get the specific row in the data base file and also I don't know how to get the text in column (field) Field4 of that row .One thing that might be important is that the index of the row in the data base file is not necessarily the same with the index of the current row in the DataGridView control . This is because in the DataGridView control the rows are order by the contents in the ID Field .ol .

I'm using the SaveFileDialog to save listbox info into a text file. The files save fine, but when you go to save the file, if you hit the cancel button, it will overwrite the previous file you saved, because it's name was the same and it seems to save the previous file as the new name for your next file. Is there any way to catch if the user clicks cancel, and then exiting the sub if they did?

I'm working on a personal project and so far everything is going perfect. Almost. I have a problem with getting music file info based off of its file path. I.e. "
C:UsersUSERetc." The only things I would need from y'all would be how to get the song's Artist(s) and Name (maybe there's something similar to 'AxWindowsMediaPlayer.currentMedia.getitemInfo("Information")' without actually having to play the song?
After I get this information, I would like to know how to add it to a ListBox as this: "[Artist] - [Song Name]", but I can do the text part if I know the getting-the-information part and adding-the-info-to-listbox part.

I have a utility that checks various file info (size, date, location, etc) against a manifest to see that it all matches. Would anyone know if there's a way to get the last write date of a file in a svn repository, using VB.NET. The equivalent of using FileInfo.LastWriteDate.
