Retrieving File Info When The System.IO.FileInfo Struct Doesn't Work
Oct 31, 2008I have built a recursive file system crawler that amasses file system data from a file share. I use the FileInfo object to get my metrics, however, I am finding that in especially deep file structs, that the ol' 260 character MAX_PATH MS bug crops up ':8-0:'. This puts me in my angry place, since I do not seem to be able to get around it no matter what kind of programmatic tom-foolery I try.
So far, I have tried:- converting to 8.3 format --> no good path + filename STILL is > 260 (believe it or not) - tried to go with a Straight low-level API approach
What I have found is some pretty Sketchy information regarding VB implementation of the kernel32 api's in this regard (just try & find a createfile port for vb.net, I couldnt)
Anyway, I guess I was hoping that someone else has run into this pain, and knows how to make a surefire way to get a file's information (size, dates esp), regardless of how long and painful the path may in fact be...

Jan 24, 2009i used to use inet ocx for retrieving info off the net. Just learned that System.Net does this. What would be a proper code string to pull text out of a text file on a website? Just trying to learn, give an example on using this and maybe I can figure out others on my own.

JQuery - Retrieving Info From HTML Input Text Block
Sep 14, 2011I have 2 HTML blocks, with JQuery DateTimePicker. Now after the date is picked (When you click the input box, the datepicker appears, then you click the date, the date appears in the input box, and when you click away somewhere, the datepicker dissapears. Now I need to retrieve that info with VB.Net and ASP.Net. I just changed the HTML input box to Asp.net Textbox. Then added the OnTextChanged function call when the text is changed, and called a function that stores that date into my class.
As such:
Start date:

I tried to go with asp:TextBox before, but for some reason JQuery didn't work on it.

Feb 15, 2012I am making a simple application that will be able to store competition data into a text file that I have given a custom extension to on saving. Here is an example of the format that i have saved the data in.

When i open the file, i want to redisplay the data in separate text boxes. Later on in the project i want to be able to search within the file for headings for example;
if "[Heat1]" is present then get all text between [Heat1] and [Heat1]
i am currently able to use the streamreader and open file dialog to retrieve the entire string of text fromthe however i am not sure how to go about getting the text between the headings I have used.

Dec 23, 2011I have a rather simple task, retrieving an image file from a virtual folder outside of my ASP.Net web Application (The Virtual Folder is in the root of the website) and then displaying it in an image control. I am able to to access a Virtual Folder that is within the web site. Here is my code that

The files save fine, but when you go to save the file, if you hit the cancel button, it will overwrite the previous file you saved, because it's name was the same and it seems to save the previous file as the new name for your next file. Is there any way to catch if the user clicks cancel, and then exiting the sub if they did?

Retrieving File Modified Date?
Apr 5, 2009I'm using VB.net 2003 Standard Edition, and I'm trying to retrieve the file modified date. I've created a System.IO.FileInfo object, and have collected info from the three methods: CreationTime, LastAccessTime, and LastWriteTime, but they aren't giving me the same data as XP Windows Explorer is.In Explorer, there is a Date Modified field (currently reading 2008 on the file in question), but using the FileInfo methods they return 2007, 2009, 2009.Is there another IO object I can use to get this 'modified' date?

Jul 24, 2010I'm working on a personal project and so far everything is going perfect. Almost. I have a problem with getting music file info based off of its file path. I.e. "
C:UsersUSERetc." The only things I would need from y'all would be how to get the song's Artist(s) and Name (maybe there's something similar to 'AxWindowsMediaPlayer.currentMedia.getitemInfo("Information")' without actually having to play the song?
After I get this information, I would like to know how to add it to a ListBox as this: "[Artist] - [Song Name]", but I can do the text part if I know the getting-the-information part and adding-the-info-to-listbox part.

What I'm looking to do is save the array to a file so that I can load it again when the program is started.
In VB 6 I used to be able to use a simple for next loop into an open file and load it the same way. It doesn't seem to work the same way with Fthe filestream class in VB.net

Apr 20, 2012I have an application I wrote that replaces Windows Explorer as a shell for Kiosk purposes. The application maintains two configuration files: one that is used and maintained for application purpose (app.config) and another that is stored in another directory so it doesn't get overwritten when the GUI attempts to update from a repository. When the application is ran in a normal environment it works perfectly. However when it is used during start-up or when switching users, the application can't seem to load the information in the other directory.

Another function later attempts to retrieve the data from the rootCP string but can only access it if the application was started after system start-up.
