Retrieving System Info Via WMI Slow?
Jun 12, 2010
I'm using the below to update a form with system information of a remote machine - it's rather slow at populating the labels, if there a faster method than looping?:
objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:" & "{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!\" & strComputer & "
ootcimv2")

I have built a recursive file system crawler that amasses file system data from a file share. I use the FileInfo object to get my metrics, however, I am finding that in especially deep file structs, that the ol' 260 character MAX_PATH MS bug crops up ':8-0:'. This puts me in my angry place, since I do not seem to be able to get around it no matter what kind of programmatic tom-foolery I try.
So far, I have tried:- converting to 8.3 format --> no good path + filename STILL is > 260 (believe it or not) - tried to go with a Straight low-level API approach
What I have found is some pretty Sketchy information regarding VB implementation of the kernel32 api's in this regard (just try & find a createfile port for vb.net, I couldnt)
Anyway, I guess I was hoping that someone else has run into this pain, and knows how to make a surefire way to get a file's information (size, dates esp), regardless of how long and painful the path may in fact be...

I am trying to create a program in Visual Basic which will measure the performance of the CPU with every core, one at a time. In this program, I decided to place a couple of text boxes that display the processor speed and the actual processor speed. I need to get the actual processor speed to update and I have tried doing this already using a timer set to tick every second. However, when I load the program it runs really slowly and prevents me form doing anything within the program, including trying to close it down, and all it does is updates the text box every second. I have looked in task manager to find out how much CPU the program is using and it shows that my program is using 0 - 3% CPU.
Here is the code currently use
Private Sub Timer3_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer3.Tick
Dim mSearcher As New ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT * FROM Win32_Processor")

I have 2 HTML blocks, with JQuery DateTimePicker. Now after the date is picked (When you click the input box, the datepicker appears, then you click the date, the date appears in the input box, and when you click away somewhere, the datepicker dissapears. Now I need to retrieve that info with VB.Net and ASP.Net. I just changed the HTML input box to Asp.net Textbox. Then added the OnTextChanged function call when the text is changed, and called a function that stores that date into my class.
As such:
Start date:
<asp:TextBox name="startDate" ID="startDate" OnTextChanged="startDate_TextChanged" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True"></asp:TextBox>
I tried to go with asp:TextBox before, but for some reason JQuery didn't work on it.

my system is fully designed but everytime I click a button that will to another form (which is also fully designed) the response of my system is to slow. Can you suggest anything to make it faster? I'm afraid that it will catch the attention of the panelist (I have a defense, 2 weeks from now).Here's the image which I've screen shot. Everytime I click a button it will take up to 3 seconds. Thats the sequence.

I'm coding a simple TCP client/server in VB.NET to transfer files of all sizes. I decided to use System.Net.Sockets's command SendFile to transfer the bytes through the socket.
On the receiving side, my code to retrieve the bytes works fairly well, but occasionally the transfer randomly stops. I figured out that by putting a small sleep delay between retrieving the next block of data makes the transfers 100% stable.My code to retrieve the data (until there is no data available) is simplified as this:
While newSocket.Available > 0
Threading.Thread.Sleep(100)
newSocket.ReceiveFrom(data, Remote)
End While
I really hate using that sleep delay and figure there must be a proper method/function to retrieve data from SendFile?

im using as usual vb express 2010 right now on winxp, but planning to make the programs fully suported on vista & win7.
First heres my structure on public class:
Structure cartas
Dim numero As Integer
[Code].....
and the richtextbox4.text has paragraphcs or vbnewlines however u wanna call them.
Saving it on a txt file looks like this:
7:John:Marcelo:this is first paragrah[]this is second paragraph[]and this is third
note i use [] to simulate the squareish paragraph thingie that is used in a textfile. since if i try to copy it here, it will automatically convert itself into an actual paragraph.
Anyways when i try to load the file using readline i only get the first paragraph displayed and all the rest of this specific text unexistent.

I am trying to read the pc system information so that I can retrieve the time and date format.
My code below:
Dim Info As System.Globalization.DateTimeFormatInfo
Info = System.Globalization.CultureInfo.CurrentUICulture.DateTimeFormat
Debug.WriteLine(Info.LongDatePattern)
Retruns in debug: "dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy"
So I have 2 questions;
1) Why is there, a dd after the MMMM.
2) My company has small franchise branch offices round the world - France, USA, etc. What I am trying to do is get the date format so I can decide what country I am in - then when I print out the date on my order labels I can change the date format to suit Americans or Europeans etc.

Im using VB2010 professional edition and Ms Access 2007 DB. Main form contains a button which accesses database, fetch results in textboxes and update database. But sometimes it takes almost 40seconds to fetch and sometimes it fetches immediately. Couldn't understand any pattern for this. The table in the database contains 8000records and Main form has 3000 lines of code.
