Retrieving Processor Current Speed Makes Program Run Slow?

I am trying to create a program in Visual Basic which will measure the performance of the CPU with every core, one at a time. In this program, I decided to place a couple of text boxes that display the processor speed and the actual processor speed. I need to get the actual processor speed to update and I have tried doing this already using a timer set to tick every second. However, when I load the program it runs really slowly and prevents me form doing anything within the program, including trying to close it down, and all it does is updates the text box every second. I have looked in task manager to find out how much CPU the program is using and it shows that my program is using 0 - 3% CPU.

I am currently doing the project using vb.net which require me to find the proccesor speed and memory of ram....now i am searching the code from internet ....so currently, i havnt done anything.....i think i should use WMI or windows API to get those Info ....

Not really asking for code, but I'm interested in knowing the basics of "thread performance".For example, you try to copy a bitmap in a pixel by pixel operation. (Is slow, but it is a nice example)

This is, of course, very buggy and causes a lot of violation errors etc. But that doesn't matter right now. How come the multi-threading way is so much faster than the regular routine? Is the processor not running on full speed with the first code, and is it working harder on the second?I find it weird to see this type of "threading performance increase", as if every single thread gets their own piece of processor speed allocated like it is a new process

I found out that I should use timegettime, gettickcount, queryperformancecounter.

I'm using a background worker to in an Excel VSTO application to throw up a progress dialog box with a status bar and a cancel button to escape from long running calculations. It's working really well, except for one issue. I'd like to use a Modal Dialog, so that the UI behind the dialog gets locked up, instead of a Modeless Dialog. If I use .ShowDialog() instead of .Show(), everything is great until you hit the Cancel button on the form. Following things in the debugger, the cancellation happens, it just takes somewhere in range of 30 seconds. If I use .Show() on my form, then the cancellation occurs immediately as it should.

I'm asking this question here, in this forum, as I couldn't find MSDN Managed forum for Crystal Reports. And the previously asked questions are unanswered. I've developed an application using VB.NET and Crystal Reports in VS2008. The report generated gets printed correctly on modern laser or inkjet printers. However, the entire formatting gets affected when I print these reports on dot matrix printer. Apart from that. the print speed is very slow. I tried exporting the report to PDF, XLS, DOC and other formats - but no solution. There was Export to Text function, which is not working in Crystal Reports now.

My program draws a few hundred labels and depending on certain criteria, they may be visible or not. I figured that it would be pretty slow anyway, but even if there's only a few labels visible, it does a weird flicky thing for a few seconds before drawing them - at the same speed if there are a lot visible.

I am coding a web-crawler which will crawl the websites and selectively parse different sections of a web site.I am a .Net developer so the choice was obvious that I did it in .Net but the speed was very slow which included downloading and parsing of HTMLPages..Then I tried to just download the contents first using .Net and then same domains using python but the python was very impressive in downloading data. I have achieved downloading using python but the later part is not that easy to code in python, which obviously i don't want to do.The same batch of domain which took 100 seconds in Python was taking 20 minutes in .Net based crawler..I tried url... to download and in took 8 seconds in Python and same was taking 100 Seconds in .Net crawler..Does anyone anyone have any idea why this is slow in .Net but fast in python?

For some reason, .NET applications that I've written seem to have issues if they're launched when Windows starts (by being in the Startup folder for instance). An application that can finish in 3/10 of a second if one launches it normally may seriously take 45-90 seconds to finish if it was launched when Windows loads. Even if I just manually wait 30 seconds after login and launch the program, it'll complete virtually instantly while a copy launched at startup is still struggling along, so it isn't just that Windows is still loading...this continues AFTER that finishes and all HDD activity stops.Writing something to disk using an IO.anything goes at about 20KB/s during this event.

Is it possible to (programmatically) retrieve the current line of code being executed? For example, I have program X that's only 200 lines long. Someone may think this is bruteforce hacking, but I don't see why I should do that? If I want to find a password on 13 characters, it would be: 62^13 = 200028539268669788905472 possibilities... in other words... it would take forever!

I am working on a program which makes tables in MS WORD. But there are many parameters that should be asked. Its so embarrassing to ask all of them with inputbox while codes are working. I made forms for each tables which will be created. While codes are working, when it is the time to create table, form appears and user inputs the datas and press OK button and table is build according to these datas in MS Word. Im trying to make a program that makes a user type in a password, then open a folder where the user can put files. but once they close out of the file browser. the program needs to save the files and remove the directory. for example think of a file cabinet being the program, and the drawer being the temp folder. when the user closes the drawer, it goes back into the cabinet, or in this case the program.

I have a program that after clicking start, starts looping. Most of the code is in the "start" button event, and the timer keeps calling it every second. Basically the program reads a line from the serial port, opens and reads a couple text files, opens and writes a couple text files, sends a string out the serial port, then repeats.
After about 24 hours of running, the computer and this program get very slow. Screen updates get really slow and clicking on buttons takes the program several seconds to respond. The actual loop itself slows too, I think, but not much. Restart the program and everything is happy again. What would be the best way to go about troubleshooting this? [Code]
