Dot Matrix Printing Speed Is Very Slow In Application
Jul 5, 2010
I'm asking this question here, in this forum, as I couldn't find MSDN Managed forum for Crystal Reports. And the previously asked questions are unanswered. I've developed an application using VB.NET and Crystal Reports in VS2008. The report generated gets printed correctly on modern laser or inkjet printers. However, the entire formatting gets affected when I print these reports on dot matrix printer. Apart from that. the print speed is very slow. I tried exporting the report to PDF, XLS, DOC and other formats - but no solution. There was Export to Text function, which is not working in Crystal Reports now.

I want to know if there is function to know whether the printer you are printing on is a dot matrix?
Our official receipt is printed in a dot matrix and must not be printed on any other kind of printer.

how to speed up or slow down a process.
I found out that I should use timegettime, gettickcount, queryperformancecounter.
I have found some info here: h[URL]
I've gotten to the part where I copy and paste the whole code. But, I want to only change the speed of a process.

My program draws a few hundred labels and depending on certain criteria, they may be visible or not. I figured that it would be pretty slow anyway, but even if there's only a few labels visible, it does a weird flicky thing for a few seconds before drawing them - at the same speed if there are a lot visible.

I am coding a web-crawler which will crawl the websites and selectively parse different sections of a web site.I am a .Net developer so the choice was obvious that I did it in .Net but the speed was very slow which included downloading and parsing of HTMLPages..Then I tried to just download the contents first using .Net and then same domains using python but the python was very impressive in downloading data. I have achieved downloading using python but the later part is not that easy to code in python, which obviously i don't want to do.The same batch of domain which took 100 seconds in Python was taking 20 minutes in .Net based crawler..I tried url... to download and in took 8 seconds in Python and same was taking 100 Seconds in .Net crawler..Does anyone anyone have any idea why this is slow in .Net but fast in python?

For some reason, .NET applications that I've written seem to have issues if they're launched when Windows starts (by being in the Startup folder for instance). An application that can finish in 3/10 of a second if one launches it normally may seriously take 45-90 seconds to finish if it was launched when Windows loads. Even if I just manually wait 30 seconds after login and launch the program, it'll complete virtually instantly while a copy launched at startup is still struggling along, so it isn't just that Windows is still loading...this continues AFTER that finishes and all HDD activity stops.Writing something to disk using an IO.anything goes at about 20KB/s during this event.

I am trying to create a program in Visual Basic which will measure the performance of the CPU with every core, one at a time. In this program, I decided to place a couple of text boxes that display the processor speed and the actual processor speed. I need to get the actual processor speed to update and I have tried doing this already using a timer set to tick every second. However, when I load the program it runs really slowly and prevents me form doing anything within the program, including trying to close it down, and all it does is updates the text box every second. I have looked in task manager to find out how much CPU the program is using and it shows that my program is using 0 - 3% CPU.
Here is the code currently use
Private Sub Timer3_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer3.Tick
Dim mSearcher As New ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT * FROM Win32_Processor")

I wrote an application that shows about 2000 GPS track segments on a map (ATV trails in Quebec). The user may select and zoom an area of the map, then print a detailed map that includes the GPS tracks:
When I print the map, I use the full resulution of the printer, so a 8.5x11 lanscape page on a laser printer generates a 6260 x 4800 bitmap. If I preview or print the entire page WITHOUT showing the GPS tracks, it appears / prints within 5-10 seconds.
When I include the GPS tracks, the preview is very fast (5-10 seconds) but the actual printing now takes over 10-12 MINUTES! I fail to see why the printing becomes SO SLOW when I include my GPS tracks.
My map only includes 3 graphics path, which were defined only once at the maximum zoom level:
- One RED path that includes all the tracks valid all year long (AnnualPath)
- One GREEN path that includes all the summer tracks (SummerPath)
- One BLUE path that includes all the winter tracks (WinterPath)
The printing is slow only when I add the 3 graphicspath to my printing output and looks like this:
' e = Drawing buffer of the Print function Factor = adjustment factor between the zoom level used when the graphicspath were defined and the actual printing zoom level
' HorzOffset = Horizontal adjustment to align the graphicspath with the output buffer VertOffset = Vertical adjustment to align the graphicspath with the output buffer
[Code]...
Anyone has an idea why adding a graphicspath to a printed page drastically slow it down? What should I do to imprime the printing speed? I have been baging my head on my monitor for the past week and I fail to see how I can fix that problem.

I am wrinting a program which takes customers details and their order details, each order line is added to a DGV and eventually saved to a MDB, a Crystal Report Viewer than queries the information back and displays it in the format I setup in the report i created, then this is printed via the Epson TM T88(from III to V). The thing is this is printing very slowly (line by line) compared to our EPOS software which prints as a thermal printer should. This is how i call the report parameters and print the report:

I have tried looking at "related" questions for answers to this but they don't seem to actually be related...Basically I have a VB.Net application with a catalogue, administration section (which can alter the catalogue, monitor page views etc etc) and other basic pages on the customer front end. When I compile and run the app on my local machine it seems to compile fairly quickly and run very fast. However when deployed on the server it seems to take forever and a day on the very first page load (no matter what page it is, how many stylesheets / JS files there are, how many images there are, how big the page markup is and so on). After this ALL the pages load really fast. My guess is this is due to having to load the code from scratch; after that, until it is recycled, the application runs perfectly fast. Does anyone have any idea how I could speed this part of the application up? I am afraid that some customers

My application works fine. However, I am connecting to 5 DBF files and the queries are very slow.[If I copy the DBF files to the local hard drive everything runs fast enough. 30-40 seconds vs. 1-1.5 minutes]The DBF needs to stay on the network.I am hoping that using the index will speed things up enough. Can anyone tell me how or give me a code example on how to index on DBF files?

I have designed an application just like it is an Excel table. By changing each textbox the application runs a huge amount of vb code and it takes time.
E.g. you want to enter a three digits number it takes from two to four and sometimes more seconds for ech digit to enter. That`s really embarrassing.

I have been developing an application using Visual Studio/VB and access 07 for my db. On the system I am developing my app. the db is local and the speed of the application is very good when I debug it. As I publish my application the db goes on a network server and the application is installed/used by 5-6 pc. The speed of the program drops alot as time passes and as is used, speed goes even more down. My problem is that I do not know what is making this change. Is it the server fault, the other pc, the many users, the lack of garbage collector ( other than the one vb does alone ), the existense of the db on the server? Based on the information I give does anyone has a tip on how to increase speed. I dont know how to begun to start fixing it as I do not know where the problem resides. One example of poor performance is the search I do on the program. For the first search I do they are ok then the more I make the slower they get.

I have a Vb.Net 2010 solution with two projects and a total of around 500 forms. Until last week compilation of these projects occured in about 30 seconds. Starting a few days ago (without any noticiable change) compilation now takes around 15 minutes! The «culprit» seems to be ResGen.exe: looking at Task Manager this program is using 25% of CPU time while devenv.exe stays idle - no other programs are active. Target CPU is x86 and target Framework is 3.5. The development machine runs Windows 7 Professional and is updated with all regular updates and SPs.

I've read around that playing WAV files from resources using My.Computer.Audio.Play causes horrid distortion when playing the sound, and I've experienced this myself. I cannot, however, use WaitToComplete, because the sounds are associated with a timer that cannot stop for anything, as it is an official competition timer. Also, I'm having an issue with the application being extremely slow when loading data from an Excel file. Essentially, the program has a grid of labels with transparent backgrounds (which seems to make the speed issue worse). The program uses the MS Office library to pull data from a spreadsheet, then output cells to one label at a time. This unfortunately, causes the application to nearly freeze, which also stops the timer, which as I said above, cannot happen

I am moving a lot of data to MS Excel from my application. I use a conditional statement to choose which Excel page the data is transferred into. Then a For Next statement to divide the data into various areas on the Excel sheet. The first sheet will always work correctly, but on the next conditional statement to chose the next Excel sheet no data transfers when running the program. If I step the program by hand all data all code works fine. I believe I need to pause between the conditional statements but I have been unable to get one to work.In the following code I have been trying to get a pause between to conditional statement to no avail.
