How do I place that blue question mark symbol next to "Do you really want to exit?"
how can I display the EURo) sign instead of a question mark in a console application on german windows XP SP3 system?(untested code due to lack of access to a XP system)
dim s as string even placing a in the code displays just a question mark
s = strings.format("currenty test: Euro {0:c}", 42)
EUR displayed as question mark
writeline(s)In the console, I can type AltGr + e to get an euro sign. So the used console font (lucidia console I think) has the correct font.
I'm currently taking a VB class as a complimentary in college, so keep in mind that I'm lowest of the low when it comes to this. For my assignment, using a console application, I need to create a pyramid of stars, such as this:
Enter number of stars: 3
***
**
*
So far, I've gotten to the point where it'll display enter number of stars: 3
3
2

How do I convert the numbers into the symbol?
if there's a way to just display the latest Symbol when drawing a graph. My app displays "real time" data from a pointPairlist and I want one graph just to be a + mark with no trace.
Dim myCurve As LineItem = m_graphPane.AddCurve("", m_pointsList, Color.Red, SymbolType.Plus)
This will show a red line with a + with every pointpair, I just want to display the latest pointpair, as an +.
I have taken over support of an application at the company I work for. All of a sudden, the customer wants to be able to enter a registered trademark in a name field. The symbol, using ALT+0174, is being saved correctly, but the app is not encoding it properly. Essentially this is what I'm doing:
Private Sub btnSave_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSave.Click
Dim ms As New MemoryStream
[Code].....
Everything is fine, except the "??" after "Smith" should be "®". What is the best way, if any, to display the symbol correctly?
does somebody know the user will be able to press enter within a datagridview cell without moving to the next cell. Also i want that the carriage return symbol, i mean a symbol that represents the new line , to be displayed.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to display the square root symbol on a button in a windows form. I'm using the unicode U+221A which on windows character map is the root sign. When i enter this in visual basic ensure the font is the same as that in the character map (wasn't sure if that made a difference to the unicode) my button displays the eta sign instead. Any help greatly received.
This is the code i'm using to set my unicode the the buttons text property.
btnSquareRoot.Text = CChar("U+221A")
I am looking to make a SMTP (Port 25) listener to listen in and accept incoming mail, look at the message source, make changes if needed, and retransmit the message out another port. This iwll make it act like a sort-of intermediary service.how one would write a port listener in VB.net, that could listen in on the port, and display the message in a text box (the whole source, headers and all, since that's what the mail comes in as anyway).

I have a page that allows users to "upload" a file. The page includes an asp.net fileUpload control. However, all it does is send the byte array to a WSE 2.0 web service. I can't change this. This may be updated in the future, but for now, this is what I have to go with. The page has an animated gif that starts when the user clicks the submit button. And the page should be updated accordingly based on the result returned by the web service call. I'm able to start the gif and consume the WS successfully. However, while the page is hitting the web service, the gif file freezes.
I then tried to use a separate thread to consume the web service. This speeds up the process and does not freeze the gif, but the page is not updated when the web service completes. If I put the main thread to sleep, the page updates, but I'm back to the same issue mentioned above, where the gif freezes. I'm pretty sure I could make the call using javascript and update the page that way, but at this point, I'd really rather do it server side (out of stubbornness if nothing else).
I'm looking for an example of a service application with an user interface.
I've currently a project with a service. Now I want to display some values from that service into a windows form.
Say we have a DataGridView on the main form. I can chose to establish its properties by code or by selecting them in the Properties panel. Is there a difference between these two techniques, a loading time penalty in any of the cases especially?
View 5 RepliesI've got an application (that is targetting .Net Framework 2.0) that is running on startup of the System, and I'm trying to get a NotifyIcon to display. When my program starts up when a user either Runs it normally or is started as a child process after the system has already logged on everything is fine.
If my application starts up as the system is performing an AutoLogon using POSReady2009 (basically XP with Single User set). Then the NotifyIcon never becomes active. If you subsequently check (in a timer) the .Visible of the Icon at any point later it always reports that it is visible = true.If you disable the SSDPSrv and restart the Computer, the Icon displays correctly.I have a sneaking suspicion this is related to .Net 3.5sp1 installed over the top of a .Net 2 system. Is there some process that I should be following to ensure that my NotifyIcon is always available to the user.I have setup RegisterWindowMessage("TaskbarCreated") but I don't get this message called, except when you forcilbly Kill Explorer.exe and restart it. Even so, a NotifyIcon interally registers for these notifications anyway, so it shouldn't be required.I'm happy to stall the startup of my program, but once the program starts up, I expect that the icon shows correctly.
We have a VB windows service running on LocalSystem Account. This windows service uses Kodak Imaging Components for converting PNG to TIFF files . Service is throwing "Out of Memory Error" for the code ImgEdit.Display . I just converted this service to a normal console vb program .This program runs fine without any error .
View 1 Repliesi have a Windows service that is hosting a WCF service through net.tcp and this is working great. I have also created a WCF service application. I am trying to add the net.tcp service reference to the service application. Then I add it to the GAC that goes ok but if I try to RegAsm the WCF service application to allow it to be called from Server.CreateObject I get the error:
Warning: Type library exporter encountered a type that derives from a
generic class and is not marked as
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)]. Class interfaces cannot be
exposed for such types. Consider marking the type with
[ClassInterface(ClassInterfaceType.None)] and exposing an explicit
interface as the default interface to COM using the

It does not work. I have tried to call it through a class library but this does not work either as the end point is not set correctly.
I have a VB2008 application which can control a windows service i.e. start, stop, pause etc. This runs ok on a Windows XP machine but not on a Win 7 machine (message is - Service error cannot open <service name> service on computer '.') View 6 RepliesI'm trying to ensure that all characters which are not numeric, or alphabetic are converted to HTML code when submitted to my database.
[Code]...
This successfully converts anything to HTML, but now I need to put some condition in there so it only does it where I need it to. ie; on any character which will either screw up my database entry, or screw up formatting when returned back to the screen as HTML (this database content is for product data for a website).
So for simplicity, I guess I want to convert only charcters which are not A-Z alphabetic or 1-0 numeric.
I could use isNumeric, but not sure how to detect alphabetic characters.
I've been Googling and found something which looked like it would work, but the logic/filtering was wrong.
So I figured I'd ask here :D
Whats the best way to include the Currency Symbol, without affecting arithmetic operations for example. Lets say I have a Listview which has one column named "Cost" where ill be a Currency Value which needs to carry the symbol for example "BsF. 22,34" or "$. 22,34". Lets say I need to apply aritmetics with those values after whats the best way to store em or at least ignore the symbol when using arithmetic on them?
