VS 2010 Save Those Controls Made At Runtime

Jan 16, 2012

I'm making a video editor program and I'm getting kinda stumped at the save portion, I've worked with openfiledialog so I figured save would be sorta the same. What I'm doing is adding files(music, videos, and pics) to a flowlayoutpanel. I just don't know how to save those controls made at runtime, this code is my import code. It's pretty much the same for music, video and pics with the exception being the format and openfiledialog being used:

(They seem to be references to the old name of the solution, that I simply replace with the new name. Example. Global.Xname..... I now replace with Global.Yname.

Adding Controls Made At Design Time To Collection

Jun 2, 2011

I'm trying to make a collection class for buttons to address them as a whole, only I want to design the buttons at design time, and not add/set their properties programatically at runtime. Each button has its own image, so it doesn't seem right to add a bunch of lines of code which assign the properties when they're always going to be the same thing. Is it possible to create the controls at design time and then add them to an array at runtime? I did this, iterating through the buttons on the form and adding each of them to the class below. The problem is that once they're added they seem to be a different instance because changing their positions has no effect on the design-buttons on the form. Essentially i wanted the collection to be a reference to the items belonging to the form.Is that possible or should I be doing this a different way?[code]

Unable To Handle Events When Adding Control At Runtime

Mar 11, 2011

I am in need of adding arr of type label at run-time. I am making a program which will retrieve employee name from database in different label. On clicking each employee name (label) it will display all the information about that employee in a msgbox. I use the following code to create the label. Since the number of labels is not fixed I have used an array.
dim withevents lblArr() as Label 'declared in the class

In the subroutine(Form load):
for i as integer=0 to NoofEmployee-1
redim lblArr(NoofEmployee-1)
lblArr(i)=new Label
' I assigned all the necessary property like size location etc..
me.controls.add(lblArr(i))
next

I declared another subroutine:
private sub MyClick(sender as Object,e as EventArgs) **handles lblArr(0).click**
MsgBox("Hello")
end sub
The code doesn't compile since a subroutine doesn't.

End Sub

My problem is how do I determine which has triggered the event (title1 or title2).

Handle EventArgs On Variable Or Not Yet Created Controls

Dec 6, 2011

I'm trying to add subs that will handle MouseOver events on textboxes that don't get created until after the program starts.

Each textbox gets created with a unique number attached to it like this...

AptTextBox0
AptTextBox1
AptTextBox2
etc...

Depending on how many are needed. But I never expect more than say... 15 at any given time.

Is it possible to handle MouseOver (or any events for that matter) if they don't exist until later.

I tried this but it didn't work....

I added this is the Designer code....

Friend WithEvents AptTextBox0 As System.Windows.Forms.TextBox
Friend WithEvents AptTextBox1 As System.Windows.Forms.TextBox
Friend WithEvents AptTextBox2 As System.Windows.Forms.TextBox

[Code]....

But it doesn't do anything. I don't get errors, but apparently it's still missing something to properly handle the events.

Tabs 2,3, and 4 are visually identical to tab 1 although they will hold different data and have different capabilities.

VS 2010 : One Class To Handle Multiple Dynamic User Controls?

Apr 3, 2012

I have multiple user controls (the same one dynamically added to a form 4 times), and one class. I would like all of the user controls raise events in that one class. For example, if any of the user controls are clicked, I want it to send a string to the class to be processed and show a MsgBox "Control name was clicked"I am doing this as an exercise to reduce repeating the same code over and over directly in the control, and to avoid creating the class over and over to accompany each user control.

Add Controls AND Code At Runtime

Jan 15, 2012

"add controls at runtime" how to add code to the controls. kinda useless with no code, ehh? all results only told me how to add the control, that's it. well, this result is different. i will teach you firstly how to add controls at runtime, then how to apply code to them at runtime

Firstly, add the controls:

[CODE]..............

Now run it. do you have a button on the form? if yes, excellent. if not, you made a mistake. try again now how to add code? you may have noticed that when you double click on any control, it says private sub button1_click(blah, blah, blah) Handles button1.click where it says handles button1.click is what determines when the code executes under what event for what control (in this case the click event for the button1). this won't work when adding code at runtime. did you notice in the above example i added a with event, and addHandler? this is what creates the handler (same as Handles button1.click)

Now we add the code for the runtime control

[CODE].........

Above, the addressOf button1_click tells the program to execute the sub button1_click when the button is clicked on (as determined by .click) but i know what you're thinking! your thinking "why would we even BOTHER doing this at runtime? isn't it easier to do it at design-time in the first place?" yes it is, providing your not writing a plugin. plugins are code based, not GUI (also reffered to as WYSIWYG). to update existing forms using plugins, you need to use this method.

IDE :: Adding Controls At Runtime / Where Goes App?

May 18, 2009

In the helpfiles of Visual Studio 2008 I read control arrays are no longer supported. There is an example for the new situation but then you need to hard code the names of all the controls beforehand.I do not know how many controls I need, could be one or 5000 (think simple image browser). Is it still possible to create something like that or should I change to a different programming language like Phyton? At the moment I work around it by using a browser control and then manipulate the <img> tags but I'm puzzeld as to why this functionality was removed and if there's a solution to the problem.Another thing I don't understand is where the app goes when it's installed with 'Click once'. It dissappears completely, doesn't show up in 'Program Files', can not be found by the search function but it *is* somewhere because you can start it form the Start menu. However, I use data which is in a subfolder of the program folder, which I nor my program can find any more after the app is installed. The program runs but it can't find any place to put/get its data so in the end it doesn't work.

I work around it by *not* installing the program but have people just run it after unpacking the downloaded folder. This works great but I wonder how long this will be the case until Microsoft disables this possibility? I have no idea why they would, but I also have no idea why they did remove the functionality I mentioned above. I already changed to PHP and MySQL because I had to throw away my carefully built W2K+MSAccess image database a few years ago and after installing Vista Visual Studio 2005 was a goner. OK, I upgraded but then no control arrays any more and now they hide the apps when you install them? Why on earth would they do that?
