I have a field called PODate & TextBox txtPODate.text. It saves/updates fine when the txtPODate is filled. But when the txtPODate is blank, it throws an error. The problem is that I can't enter date for each record unless I got Purchase requisition converted into Purchase Order. Once it is converted to PO, I need to enter the date to update that filed. So, how can I make my program to accept blank date field.
View 6 RepliesI'm using the ErrorProvider in VB.Net (2005) which is associated with a BindingSource that is bound to a custom object that I have created. This custom object contains a date field that has a "Date" data type that. I am using a "TextBox" to bind the date field in my form. My issue is, whenever the TextBox loses focus and is blank, "String not recognized as a valid DateTime" is displayed by the ErrorProvider and the focus can't be changed to any other control on the Form. It's good that the ErrorProvider validates entries on Date fields by default (I didn't set up my custom object to display this particular error for the date), but it should allow blank values. I want the user to be able to have a blank date with no error message displayed. How can this be done using a Date field bound to a TextBox?

All I want to do is set the date textbox to blank and move on to the next field, but I can't. I am eternally "stuck" in the field unless I put a valid date value.

I need to store dates fields which may at times be blank (null), how do I go about that?
I tried using:date.minvalue and that stores the value of 12/30/1899. I would like the field to be blank until the user enters a valid date.
How can I get this to happen? I googled around and it seems setting the CUSTOM FORMAT to " " when the field is null will work but not for a BOUND datetimepicker.

I made a Try-Catch statement so that if the user enters letters into the text boxes, they get an error message. However, if the user leaves one field blank, the error message still pops up. What's the code so that I can get Visual Basic to recognize that an empty field is the same as 0 so that that message doesn't pop up? [Code]. What do I need to add to it to get that Error Message to stop showing when the user doesn't enter a value into one of the text boxes?

I am trying to figure out how to make a program which can accept switches like cmd.exe /k or /c basically i want it to accept commands by myapp.exe /c mycommand.i tried searching and googling but no luck. Also is there a way to run a function like that? And if anyone is wondering why then basically i am copying a script to my domain computer and executing it. This i already have done but problem is its just getting too much copyin multiple scripts and executing i would put everything in on and run em by switches.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to fill a ListView control in a VB2005 project. It works fine from underpinning (Access) database IF all the data is present. However, if a field is blank (in this case - a field called "Actual Date" which is meant to be blank for this record), the ListView will stop populating at that point.I thought this may have been the 'CausesValidation' property of the ListView but that doesn't seem to change the behaviour.Is this an inherent feature of the ListView - if so it seems daft - or is there a property I need to change or an override that I need to code?

Now I want this field to display only date like "01-03-2011" and also anywhere it sees the default date, it should display an empty string like To achieve this I used this formular (in the display string)

This successfully changes the default date to empty string. But now I can no longer change the format to dates only.
Updating an Excel file from a dataset seems to work fine. But if I have text that's longer than 255 characters then I get the error above.I've been working on this for a couple of hours and I haven't gotten anywhere. I've tried messing with the connection string and changing a registry setting, but no luck.

I have a combo box defined as a drop down list for a numeric field and have possible values under items. One of the values I have is a blank value (at the top of the items list) in case the user needs to leave the value as null. However, when I choose the 'blank' value, it will not let me past that field. I tried changing the 'data source update mode' to 'Never' and it let me past the field but then of course it won't save ANY of the values I choose.Is there any easy way around this without having to change the field to a string? SQL Table Column Data Type is Date; NULLS allowed,Input to MaskedTextBox set up as: ##->&<&<&-## so typical input is 01-Jan-10, etc. When the MaskedTextBox is filled and column populated, the data in the SQL table uses the format 2010-01-01
The form does not like a blank MaskedTextBox; therefore, when filled - no problem. When left empty, it has a problem. So I wrote this code to populate the column regardless, and will filter out the 2001-01-01 entries in associated reports using Report Viewer. This is less than ideal, so I would like to know if there is a way to make the column as NULL instead of "dummy date" of 2001-01-01?

I am creating a 'generic input dialog': InputDialog(Of T).The idea is that I can create new instances of this dialog for different values of T. For example,I can create an InputDialog(Of String) and it displays a textbox.I create an InputDialog(Of Boolean) and it displays two radiobuttons (I could use a Checkbox, irrelevant).I create an InputDialog(Of Date) and it shows a DateTimePicker.
I do this by simply checking the type of T at run-time.In this way it is not really generic, as the dialog still has to know which type T is (which is usually not the case), but the generic is in the fact that the T can be multiple types that require a TextBox. For example, InputDialog(Of String), (Of Integer), (Of Single), (Of Double), etc, all simply display a TextBox (and it is validated later),so I still want to use generics as much as possible.Anyway, the result of the dialog is of course a property of type T. This property needs to return the value in the textbox, converted from string to T, OR the value in the DateTimePicker, converted from Date to T,OR the checked property of the 'Yes' radiobutton, converted from Boolean to T.In order to convert from any object to T I googled and found this

I have to use this, I cannot simply CType a string to T since a String cannot be converted to any type T.So, my Result property looks like this at the moment:

This actually works for Strings, Integers, Doubles, Singles, etc. I pass it the String in the textbox and it converts it to 'T'(note: T is then a String, Integer or Double!) just fine.So, it can convert a String to a String, Integer or Double without any problems (I am validating the text before using the Result property so it will always be a valid integer, double, etc).However, it does not work for a Boolean, nor for a DateTime. When I try that, it says "BooleanConverter cannot convert from System.Boolean" or "DateTimeConverter cannot convert from DateTime". I realize it is a bit of a strange thing, since the object already IS a Boolean or a Date(Time) so no conversion should be done at all, but this doesn't work in design-time because I need to return the objects as type T.I know that T will be Boolean when the value to be converted is a Boolean, and that T will be DateTime when the value to be converted is a DateTime, but the designer does not accept a simple CType. As I said, it does not accept this:
Return CType(rbYes.Checked, T)
because 'Boolean cannot be converted to T'.
However, I did find a way to make it work, but it seems like a complete hack... I can assign the boolean to an Object and then convert that using CType:

This works, it's accepted during design-time, and it works during run-time, but it seems very wrong... Is there no better way to handle this?
