Chart / DataGridView Object Refuses To Update And Designer Has Random Columns

Sep 29, 2011

I have an object (ClassGPS) containing a DataTable that is exposed through the property "Satellites". My form has a bindingsource that, upon load, associates itself to a new ClassGPS object. The table has 5 columns, two of which ("PRN" and "dB") I want to chart using the new 4.0 chart tool. So the chart object's DataSource = ClassGPSBindingSource, and the DataMember = Satellites. That is all set in the designer. In ClassGPS.New(), the table is pre-loaded with 4 rows. This object is created before the form loads. When the form loads and the bindingsource is set to the created GPS object, the chart correctly updates and displays the four pre-loaded entries. On this form, I have a button that adds more entries. Tracing from the Click event, pushing the button does add the entries properly to the underlying table, and if I create a ListCHanged handler on the data source, the events are all correctly firing, but the Chart does not update to reflect the changes.

So to test, I added a Datagridview object. Just like the chart, I set its datasource to ClassGPSBindingSource, and the DataMember to Satellites. And here's where it gets weird. In the designer, the newly added DataGridView control has 4 columns in it labeled RowVersion, Row, IsNew, and IsEdit. I didn't create these columns, it does it itself. If I try to change the bindings on these columns to reflect the actual datatable names (PRN and dB) two things can happen:

1) If I hit Play (F5) to debug the program, the DataGridView looks and acts correctly inside the program and is correctly bound and updating fine as I add new data. In the designer underneath however, the changed columns have disappeared and are replaced with the original four it is creating for no apparent reason. When the debug session terminates, the columns - which just finished functioning fine in the debug session - are now gone.

2) If I hit Build, the designer destroys my columns immediately and recreates those it defaulted to.In either case, something very fishy is going on... in that the Chart, with the exact same binding settings as the datagridview, does not work but the datagridview works just fine (unless Build is hit prior to Run).Has anyone run across this? Can you reproduce it? I have bound a chart to a datatable before and it worked just fine, but it didn't have to update except when the form it was on was closed and later re-loaded.

Query To Update One Row In Datagridview

Jun 13, 2010

I need to run a query when I add/Change a value in my first column in a datagridview. When I add a value (a identifier from a table) in my first column, then I need the query to retrive the rest of the values in the table recordset. When I try to run a query, all i get is a query that updates my whole datagridview, and not only one row, with this code in the CellValueChanged module of the datagridview:

Me.myTableTableAdapter.FillBymyQuery(Me.myDatabaseDataSet.myTable, CType(DataGridView1.CurrentRow.Cells(0).Value, Integer))

Is there anyone who knows what I have to do, so I can add several rows to my datagridview, and let a query retrive my recordset based on my value in the first datagridview column?

How To Group Distinct Columns In A Linq Query

Nov 4, 2010

The following data is created by joining two sql tables together:I would like to group together distinct rows of DateStamp/UserName/ StudentName/ InstructorName/TableName/PrimaryKey (I'll call this 'group records') and then group under these ColumnName/PreviousValue/NewValue (I'll call this 'subgroup records')The end result would be that I could iterate through the 'group records' - there would be 5. In each 'group record', I could then iterate through the 'subgroup records'. The 5 groups would contain 3, 2, 5, 2 and 1 subgroup records respectively. What would be the syntax to create a query to do this? Ideally this would be in a vb.net linq syntax.

.net - Proper Syntax For LINQ Query Selecting Only Certain Columns?

Sep 13, 2011

What is the proper syntax for this:

Dim qry As <??> = From f In dirInfo.GetFiles("*.QBW") Select File = f.FullName, Include = True
Dim dt As DataTable = qry.CopyToDataTable()

I tried as "IEnumerable(Of DataRow)" but that didn't work. At runtime it said:

Unable to cast object of type
'WhereSelectArrayIterator2[System.IO.FileInfo,VB$AnonymousType_02[System.String,System.Boolean]]'
to type
'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[System.Data.DataRow]'.

C# - Get A Result In A Grouping Query Which Is Value Agnostic And Has Dynamic Columns?

May 17, 2011

I have a table called Foo and I have two columns: Lorem and Ipsum, so the scheme of the table is:

Foo(Lorem, IpsumID)

I also have a table called IpsumTypes, which looks like this:

IpsumTypes(IpsumID, IpsumName)

I would like to write a LINQ query which will have the following result:

Headers: Lorem, IpsumName1, IpsumName2, ..., IpsumNamen
Values: Loremi, count(IpsumName1), ..., count(IpsumNamen)

Each row represents a group of Lorem value and the number of each possible IpsumID in the group. New rows can be added to the IpsumTypes table, rows can be deleted too, so I need dynamically generated columns, because at the time of writing the code I'm not aware of the possible values of Ipsum. How can I achieve this? Is there a magical Linq query which solves this problem, or should I get the values from the database and parse them separately, if speed counts?

LINQ Query - Join Tables On Nullable Columns

Apr 17, 2011

How to JOIN tables on nullable columns? I have following LINQ-query, RMA.fiCharge can be NULL:
Dim query = From charge In Services.dsERP.ERP_Charge _
Join rma In Services.dsRMA.RMA _
On charge.idCharge Equals rma.fiCharge _
Where rma.IMEI = imei
Select charge.idCharge

I get a "Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'Integer' is not valid" in query.ToArray():
Dim filter = _
String.Format(Services.dsERP.ERP_Charge.idChargeColumn.ColumnName & " IN({0})", String.Join(",", query.ToArray))
So I could append a WHERE RMA.fiCharge IS NOT NULL in the query. But how to do that in LINQ or is there another option?

The problem was that the DataSet does not support Nullable-Types but generates an InvalidCastException if you query any NULL-Values on an integer-column. The modified LINQ-query from dahlbyk works with little modification. The DataSet generates a boolean-property for every column with AllowDbNull=True, in this case IsfiChargeNull.

Dim query = From charge In Services.dsERP.ERP_Charge _
Join rma In (From rma In Services.dsRMA.RMA _
Where Not rma.IsfiChargeNull
Select rma)
On charge.idCharge Equals rma.fiCharge _
Where rma.IMEI = imei
Select charge.idCharge

C# - Joint Query In Linq To SQL To Select All Records Even There Are Some Null In The Columns Of Foreign Keys?

Feb 2, 2011

I'd like to take all suggestion either in C# or VB.NET.I have a DB diagram like the image below. I also include the database script here [URL]In the Students table, CountryId and RoomId column are allowed null. Because some records do not have info about room and country yet. Also, some students do not have essays.I'm doing a joint query with all tables. I want to select all students to project the result like this:Wanted query result.

Here's my current query that gives the result like the image below:

Dim db As New DBDataContext
Dim query = From st In db.Students _
Join c In db.Countries On c.Id Equals st.Id _
Join r In db.Rooms On r.Id Equals st.RoomId _

[code].....

current query result I got only one result back because I have (2) William NoMan record in every table. But I don't get anything about others, like (3) Sync Master who has everything but RoomId.What do I need to modify the query above so it will give me all students like in the wanted query image above?

VS 2008 Update Table And Ignore The Missing Columns Using The Single Dataset?

Jul 5, 2011

How can i do a workaround for this? I two databases(.sdf). Database A has table A1 Database B has table A2 Table A1 is an exact duplicate of A2 minus 3 columns My dataset(.xsd) is based off of tableA2 in Database B. I can fill all my tableadapters in Database A and all info in table A1 using the dataset. My problem lies when I do TableAdapter.Update() for Table A1(Since the dataset has the 3 missing fields) it tries to update table A1 with info that isn't there and I get an error. How can I update table A1 and ignore the 3 missing columns using the single dataset? Or is TableAdapter.Update() designed to Update the Database with all columns found in the dataset ?
