How To Check If Label In (VS2008) Has Multiple Lines
Mar 1, 2010
I have a method that saves form controls data to a text file, including its text. IF a label has multiple lines, this breaks the text file writing multiple lines to it.I was instructed to simply ignore multiple-line labels and don't include it in the file, but I don't know how to check whether or not a label has can multiple lines or not so I can throw in an 'if' statement.

how to count the lines in textbox1.text (with multiplelines). I don't need to count each character. I only need to count each line from top to bottom in textbox1.text (multiplelines) and I will use Label1 to display the numbers.
example:
1-pauljaones
2-tommyperrry
3-marktoms
4-Jonessmith
5-paulwhite
Obviously this is 5 lines and that's what I need to count.

In previous versions of VB, you could click on a label to gain the focus, and then type multiple of lines of text. In VB 2008, clicking on the control does not open up the control for editing. You can use the text property, but can only enter a continuous string of characters. How do you insert blank lines between paragraphs?

Im just trying to get a simple multi line label box counting numbers using vbCrLf.
Dim startNumber As Integer
For startNumber = 1 To 4
lblCount.text = "Number = " & startNumber & vbCrLf
Next startNumber
I just want something to display like this in a multi line label, not a textbox:
Number = 1
Number = 2
Number = 3
Number = 4
But... I keep getting something like:
Number = 4
I already turned auto size off and expanded the label.

Im currently working on a project using VS2008. One of the features of this applications is to enable the user to change the theme either buy selecting preset ones or defining there own. The themes used in this application are not the default windows ones. I basically created my own window, titlebar etc... with the use of panels and removed teh windows form borders. So its basically coloring the controls on the form. At the moment the theme information is stored in a "txt" file and when the application loads, it applies the theme to the current form. However, there is more than 1 form within this application. I dont want to write many lines of code to apply certain design/appearance properties to every control in the form. So is there a way to apply settings to a group of controls?
EG: Make all textboxes BackColor Blue
My application also has widgets. All widgets are panels with their names prefixed as "Pnl_WIDGET". Is there also a way to set propeties to all panles with the name beginning with "Pnl_WIDGET"?

Using the below code, allows me to filter a data (from the same table) in a database using checkboxes & their Tag property.
Public Class Form1
Private checkBoxes As CheckBox()
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
[Code]....
Since certain movies can belong to multiple genres & vise versa, I'm trying to alter the code listed above to filter all movies belonging to a certain genre using the GenreID found in the joint table.
Is this possible or do I need to go about this in a different way?

I have a txt document here that have certain word on it per line. How can I show it in different labels. I have 25 labels and have label name as followsword1,word2,word3,word4,word5 and so on up to word25. I want the word 1 label will show the first line of the text file and the second word2(label name) will show the second line of the textfile and so on up to the 25th line . Can it be done using loop?I tried but I dont know exactly how readline process works to identify certain lines you want to read and also I tried using the "i" variable to auto generate the name of my label but it did not work.
Dim timepath As String = "C:ACCOUNTSAccount" + user1 + " ime.text"
Dim times As String
Dim timeread As New System.IO.StreamReader(timepath)

I have a text file with user names in them on separate lines. I want to check to see if any of the lines doesn't match the exact text im checking for. It doesn't matter what line the text is on, as long as it is in there. If it's not, alert me. Previously i tried .contains() but obviously if a user name is "hello" and another's is "helloworld" it will match both of them.So basically i need to read all the lines in the txt file and if none of them lines contains the specific text im looking for then alert me. I have a text file with some call records in it. Each call record states a line in that text file. And what I want to do is that parsing to database with a 100% success rate. Due to sometimes the SQL connection might get buggy or stop or w/e so it came to my mind that I should make some function or maybe a stored procedure to check whether the requested/selected or whole lines in that text file have been successfully added or not to the database. Let's assume I have 10 lines in a text file called "log.txt" like:
call line 1
call line 2
call line 3
call line 4
[code]....
And assuming that the SQL connection to the database got stuck somehow(buggy) and it stopped inserting those lines to their respectively columns. Let's say it parsed lines from 1-6 and it stopped there, that's where I need the app to tell me that it stopped and continue inserting immediately where it stopped at to the end from 6-10th line. What am I supposed to do? The smoothest way so that the processor doesn't get overwhelmed (in case there are like hundreds of thousands lines). And should it be written in SQL as a stored procedure or written as a function from VB side.Toolkit : Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate - VB.Net language & Microsoft SQL Management Studio 2005 - SQL Database.

So I built myself a simple program to work out the kinks of drawing in my programs. I have a button that I press that when the textbox.text reads 1 it then draws a line of a specific height, color and position, the problem is when I click that button again it will crash informing me that...
"Specified Visual is already a child of another Visual or the root of a CompositionTarget."
[code..]
I know where the problem lies, its with the Canvas1.children.add(line), cause its telling me the line variable is already been used or in use on the canvas, I'm just unsure of how to turn that into a solution that will allow me to click the button a hundred times or more without being forced to MANUALLY make a hundred or more individual variables to store the line.

I have tried multiple variations of the following code, but I still get the same result. I am trying to have the last line "Issue Description: ...." to appear on a new line. I have tried vbCrLf, vbCr, and & Environment.NewLine & _ None of which work.
Just a note: The other emails are properly formatted. Also, if I add put 2 vbCr (s) at the end of the 'Issue Title' line then it looks normal.This one in particular seems to be a thorn in my side.
The result:

Dim mail As New MailMessage()
Dim strbody As String
strbody = Nothing

i've got my basic AutoTyper ready (well and one with autoupdating etc in it) but it's only a singular line. [Code] What I want to do it to type multiple lines, I know I'll have to enable multiline on the TextBox. I want it to type one line per time interval using 1 timer. I don't know how but I know it would have to count the lines but from then on I'm stuck. I will need to make it type line 1, then on the next loop line 2 and go on until it's reached the amount of lines from the count then repeat from line 1. [Code]

I'm new to Visual basic (which will be obvious from my question) and am writing program that does various calculations, then displays the results in a list box. the results, however, are all concatenated, end don't each appear on a new line. I tried adding a carriage return/line feed at the end buit the compiler rejected it.
I can't find any examples of creating a list box, and adding multiple entries (one for each time a loop is performed), nor of how to use columns to make the resulting display cosmetically pleasing.
