I wrote a program which has 4 different menus. Each menu does some kind of calculations by first read numbers from binary image file and then writes the output file. I was wondering if I could output or write to memory instead of outputting to a file.
If that is possible then I think I could do all with one click instead of using 4 different menus (or forms).
I am using a datagrid in my where i am having four columns. In first column the parameter values are entered and in the second column measured value is entered and in third column the nominal value is entered.Inthe fourth column the result is displayed by subtracting the measured value and nominal values. I am doing this calculation in Datagrid cell validated event. What i want is,there will be many rows in the grid,when typing the value in the third column the corresponding result will be displayedin the rowof theresult column,save button will be displayed while the form loads,when the calculate part is completed that is there should not any cell of the resut column empty then i should enable the save butto.

There is no problem with the code how ever, I would like to know, in the process I am following, the number of subjects, couses, examsets etc would all get repeated in the specific type lists like SubjectsList, examstypelist etc.. since they are being copied over it would take more memory.
Hence, my question or doubt would be, is it possible to use the same as references instead of copying them over to lists to save memory, or are there any methods better than this?

I'm trying to do an application for a HTC viva PDA, and i'm a begginer in visual basic programming language so i don't understand much of it.The application is intended to receive data from a data aquisition equipment that connects with the PDA trough bluetooth, i managed to receive data in the PDA, but i don't know how to save all the data that comes from the data aquisition device in a Microsoft excel format or in any other format i can work with.the code that is needed so that the software saves all incoming data to a excel file in the memory card of the PDA?

There will be a bit more to it later, and I will likely be using PNG but that is besides the point for now.Whenever I take a screenshot and save, doesn't matter If I am saving converting quality or using system.drawing directly, the memory use goes up about 1.5MB per save. I'm rather new to VB.Net so I can't really figure out why...as far as I can tell I release everything.[code]Ihave tried setting it to nothing with no luck, and aside from that memory slowly goes up per time Enter is pressed. View 1 RepliesI am currently having a headache on how to solve this problem that i am facing. here is the situation: I have a combobox and a list box on the main form. The combobox will get the data from the ms access database. In the database, i have the details of a person's IC, Name and DOB say for eg on one entry I have D215311523C,SHAWN,13/04/1987 So now, my combobox on form load will show the list of dates in the database to allow the user to search base on the date itself by clicking on the selected date. So when the user clicks on the particular date say 13/04/1987, people in the database whose birthday is 13/04/1987 will be shown on the listbox.Meaning to say if i have 3 entries whose dates are the same 13/04/1987, 3 entries will appear. If there is only two entry, then two results will be shown. But now, when i do a single click on the date, one result will be shown. That is correct. But the problem is when i click on the same date again, three of the same results will be shown on the list box. that is it will display : 13/04/1987 13/04/1987 13/04/1987 which is not the case. Then it will show more duplicates of the same results if i click more times on the same date which should not be the case.

I am encountering the following issue So i have a device that sends stuff at the serial port, i then parse it and put it into an array of bytes like that:

Basically what i wanna do is let the port parse the messages, fill in the array with the result at an empty spot in this array and then i will have a separate thread that will look in into this array in each non empty space and after it looks into the non empty space it will use or discard the info and also mark this space as empty (after it checked)
I just read about DataSet in VB.NET, it uses disconnected concept. My question is: if my apps has "List All" button that query data from 1 table in the database, and that table has "very very very" many rows, so my DataSet will be filled with those data and eat up memory. Can I limit the data that being put to the DataSet from that query? But I want to be able to retrieve the next data from the same query if the user want to see it?
For example:
I have 1000 rows in my database, and i query all of them. But I just want 200 rows being inserted to my DataSet, but if the user want to see rows number 201 and so on, I want to be able to retrieve the next 200 rows, and so on. So it just like cutting those data into a group of 200 rows. Can I do this with the concept of "disconnected" of the DataSet?
In VB 2005, I am calling a C++ DLL function that returns the address in memory and size in bytes of a jpeg image. How can I load that jpeg image directly from memory into a picture box in my VB form? I cannot afford to save it to disk first.
View 10 RepliesIm getting a problem with one of my programs I have made in visual basic.NET where it gives me a memory error when i debug the program in the IDE. the exact error is this: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt". My program basically has a few forms with text fields on that get their text values from an access database on the same hard drive. Im wondering if im doing something wrong because my program just seems to eat up memory whenever it does anything. For example I have one form that has a combobox on it and when you change the drop down list selection it retreives a few strings from the database and puts them into the relevant text boxes, if you keep changing the selection then the memory usage (in task manager) just keeps going up and up. occasionally I get the error mentioned above when debugging but in my built version of the program it throws an exception everytime the memory usage gets past 49K.
Also I noticed when debugging in the "immediate window" frame I get the following message often:A first chance exception of type 'System. Invalid OperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll...Do I need to somehow be "releasing" the memory that is used to gather data once it becomes redundant?

Im designing a web browser and i continue to receive this error after going to about 3 websites it crashes with that error.
I have a BackgroundWorker object that I instantiated to perform a DB process on a background thread ansynchronously. I have event handlers for DoWork and RunWorkerCompleted. I can tell that the BackgroundWorker is disposing of itself because I added a message box into the Disposed event handler.Is it necessary to detach the event handlers to ensure that the memory is cleaned up and that there are not memory leaks?
View 1 RepliesI've noticed that every time I start a new thread in my program, the memory usage jumps about 1000k and it never goes back down. I have ensured that the thread is no longer running, and only one instance of my worker thread is ever running at a time. I am using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem and ASyncOperation to get stuff done. The program starts using a Sub Main in a module that uses STAThread; I read that using STAThread instead of MTAThread makes it impossible for the Garbage Collector to get in and consider objects for garbage collection. However, when I change the STAThread to an MTAThread, the WebBrowser control in my frmMain cannot be instantiated.
I get this exception:

Additional information: ActiveX control '8856f961-340a-11d0-a96b-00c04fd705a2' cannot be instantiated because the current thread is not in a single-threaded apartment. I do threading with the WebBrowser control, so will using MTAThread fix my problem? If so, how should I partition my code so that the WebBrowser control won't be affected by the above exception? I call the thread repeatedly with a timer (although only one instance ever runs at a time), and my program's memory usage starts at about 5000k and can jump to 300,000k+ depending on many times the thread needs to be called.
I cannot use Visual Basic 2008 at all. When I go to "new project" and choose "Windows Form Application" I get this error.I have tried multiple uninstall/reinstall with no result.A microsoft reply to this suggested that I needed: " .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 " I checked, and I did not have the .netframework 2.0 service Pack 1.
When I tried to download and install the above from Microsoft.com, the istaller said that "it was not allowsed" and I was not able to install the service pack 1.
I tried Uninstalling net framework 3.5, 3.0, 2.0 and then reinstalling .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1; then reinstalling Visual basic 2008 express edition. At the reinstall of Visual basic 2008, .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1 is unistalled by .net framework service pack 2.When I check the foruims for simiar problems, the formus are mostly for Visual basic 5.0, or other programs that I do not have.

The follow code can be called about 6K times on the server it is run on then gets a out of memory error in the last catch statement. I don't see what is wrong with the code, it works well up until the out of memory..

I have two forms, Form1 and Form2. Form2 has a button to show OpenFileDialog. I call Form2 from Form1 by a button. My startUp Form is Form1. When i start debugging, i press my Form1's button to show my Form2, it shows, but when i click On Form2's Button to show OpenFileDialog it is giving me exception that

I have set up a method in vb.net and in xcode for encrypting a string using as far as i can tell the same parameters for an AES encryption.I've looked all over the place but cannot find information on whether they use the same encryption algorithm and settings.

View 2 RepliesThis code was put together for a one time run. It's purpose is to count all the pages in a group of images. After about 6000 of 1,250,000 images in ##X it throws an "out of memory" error. Besides it being thrown together for a one time run does anybody see anything obvious that could be causing the error?
