Im trying to make an advance chat room with some cool features.
How would i save an image in memory from a stream?
I'm basically making an app to take screen shots in a game as I chat. There will be a bit more to it later, and I will likely be using PNG but that is besides the point for now.Whenever I take a screenshot and save, doesn't matter If I am saving converting quality or using system.drawing directly, the memory use goes up about 1.5MB per save. I'm rather new to VB.Net so I can't really figure out why...as far as I can tell I release everything.[code]Ihave tried setting it to nothing with no luck, and aside from that memory slowly goes up per time Enter is pressed. I'm not sure why data would be saving to memory when Subs and Functions are supposed to release data after use?
View 1 RepliesIn VB 2005, I am calling a C++ DLL function that returns the address in memory and size in bytes of a jpeg image. How can I load that jpeg image directly from memory into a picture box in my VB form? I cannot afford to save it to disk first.
View 10 RepliesI am trying to edit an image. I can open the image with Picturebox1.load(mypicture)
I can change the pixels/edit the picture by Dim img as new bitmap(picturebox1.image)
[Code]...
now here is the weird part. When I save the image the filesize INCREASES..but the picture dimensions are the same Example... TEST.PNG 1.3KB, when opened up via picturebox/saved the image is now 2.3KB
not sure why...i even though I specify system.drawing.imaging.imageformat.PNG
samething with JPG... it actually SHRINKS it evenmore.. example 88KB jpeg.. saved as jpeg is now 47.7KB...
I'm writing a program that print images in full page. I.E, I print image on A4 paper, landscape. When I print an image without rotating it (the image IS landscape), the image uses all the space of the page, and is not cropped. it is OK. The print job is about 1.5 Mb. When I print an image WITH rotating it (the image IS PORTRAIT ), the image uses all the space of the page, and is not cropped. it is OK. The print job is about 28 Mb. The images are about 2000x3000 pixels, and stored in JPEG files (about 2.5 Mb each). I suppose that the 28 Mb should be the "uncompressed" size of the picture, and 1.5Mb, the compressed size...
By the way, When I look at the task manager, my application memory usage grows by job size, which seems to be OK. It grows either 1,5 Mb if no rotation is occured, and 25-30Mb when rotation occured.
Since I can print hundreds of image at once, my print queue will grow abnormaly if I need to rotate all
I'm still learning VB and I'm trying to do a yahoo sign up page from my own form. View 7 RepliesI have a contextmenustrip with 10 options on it. Each option calls an image from my resources and changes the background image of my form. When i select an option how do i save it and make sure thats the image that loads next time i run my application ?
View 30 RepliesThis has really been a problem for me in the past and with deadlines, we decided to just have the app copy the image to the server, rename it and save the link in the database. This is the worst way of saving that kind of sensitive data, I know. We now have the time to fix that.
View 4 RepliesI cannot use Visual Basic 2008 at all. When I go to "new project" and choose "Windows Form Application" I get this error.I have tried multiple uninstall/reinstall with no result.A microsoft reply to this suggested that I needed: " .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 " I checked, and I did not have the .netframework 2.0 service Pack 1.
When I tried to download and install the above from Microsoft.com, the istaller said that "it was not allowsed" and I was not able to install the service pack 1.
I tried Uninstalling net framework 3.5, 3.0, 2.0 and then reinstalling .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1; then reinstalling Visual basic 2008 express edition. At the reinstall of Visual basic 2008, .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1 is unistalled by .net framework service pack 2.When I check the foruims for simiar problems, the formus are mostly for Visual basic 5.0, or other programs that I do not have.
Here is the programs I have installed:
Operating system: Windows XP
Microsoft .net framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET framwork 1.1 Hotfix(KB928366)
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2
[code]....
All the security updates and hotfixes for Widows XP.
Just wondering how if it is possible to draw onto something, with GDI+, that can then be saved to some kind of vector format?
View 2 RepliesI'm currently working on a VB 2008 course of Michael Halverson, and I'm stuck at an assignment where I'll have to expand a previous wood order program so customers can add woodcuts to their orderIn the newer program a customer can define 4 coordinates (x & y for startpoint and x & y for endingpoint), after clicking on the button 'Next cut' a line will be drawn on screen (in PanelCuts) with a maximum of ten lines. After finishing, the coordinates must be saved in the order.txt, and when the client re-select the order in the main order program, they can review and adjust / remove the already specified cuts.Right now I'm at the point that the you can enter the coordinates, and the line will be drawn.
- What's the best way to store the submitted cuts, in a Label? array? or something else?
- When the form reloads, how to displays all previous made cuts? Can i count the numer of cuts and with For i = 1 to combined with SelectedItem. Split() ? [code]
I wrote a program which has 4 different menus. Each menu does some kind of calculations by first read numbers from binary image file and then writes the output file. I was wondering if I could output or write to memory instead of outputting to a file.
If that is possible then I think I could do all with one click instead of using 4 different menus (or forms).
Actually i'm doing my assignment on Vb interface... Parking and Retrieve System.. the problem is, i don't know how to save the input inserted by user (displayed in display2.text) into any memory in vb..
Example: if user key in "abc123", then how can i save the data into vb memory repeatedly? is it possible for me to use "savedialogfile"?
Here is my code:
CODE:
I have a class as follows:
Public Class Courses
Public CoursesOfferedMAIN As New List(Of Category)
Public CoursesList As New List(Of Course)
[Code]....
There is no problem with the code how ever, I would like to know, in the process I am following, the number of subjects, couses, examsets etc would all get repeated in the specific type lists like SubjectsList, examstypelist etc.. since they are being copied over it would take more memory.
Hence, my question or doubt would be, is it possible to use the same as references instead of copying them over to lists to save memory, or are there any methods better than this?

View 2 RepliesI am "weeks new" to visual basic 2008 but I was hoping that someone might tell me how I can open an image in whatever type of "visible" graphics window (always positioned at: x=0 y=0); move to some "definable position" of interest x=(n) y=(n); change the brightness of that "individual pixel" by some "definable means of measure" from its original state; and save the new image as a separate image file?
View 4 RepliesI hoping to find a current and simple way to do this. I'm using VWD Express 2008 and SQL Express 2008.I'm able to get the client's path to the image file using an asp:FileUpload control on the web form.

View 3 RepliesI'm a VB beginner.I've been playing with Graphics.DrawString by watermarking a picture with a text string. The picture below to the left comes from PictureBox with a text string drawn with Graphics.DrawString. The font style used is Arial 48 points, regular, I think. The picture in PictureBox shows just as I configure. Great... The resolution of the original Terri Hatcher picture is 300 dpi (300 x 300). Exporting this picture with Graphics.DrawString, I get the picture below to the right. The text string appears a lot bigger than previously shown in PictureBox. It turns out that the text size varies, depending on the resolution of the original picture. That's kind of odd. I develop several graphics applications in a different environment and have never seen this sort of graphics.drawstring thing. Anyway,
my sample application seems to draw a text string at an image resolution of
