View 4 RepliesI am using mysettings to save user settings.
This config file is saved in this path:
c: Documents and
Settings [Local
Settings] Application
Data\
Is possible to change this path? For example, in my case I save app data in "ProgramData" folder (Vista & W7) and I would like save this config file in the same folder.
Private Sub SaveButton_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SaveButton.Click
Dim Config As Configuration
Dim Section As ConnectionStringsSection

I want to store a 2-dimensional array with 5 columns and indefinite rows in My.MySettings. I've tried to use a Class with an item list (list(of T)) but also a StringCollection.
View 15 RepliesAt first I was using this as an extension method to update my detached entities...
Public Sub AttachUpdated(ByVal obj As ObjectContext, ByVal objectDetached As EntityObject)
If objectDetached.EntityState = EntityState.Detached Then
Dim original As Object = Nothing
[code]....
Everything has been working great until I had to update non-scalar properties. Correct me if I am wrong but that is because "ApplyCurrentValues" only supports scalars. To get around this I was just saving the FK_ID field instead of the entity object relation. Now I am faced with a many to many relationship so its not that simple. I would like to do something like this...
Dim Resource = RelatedResource.GetByID(item.Value)
Condition.RelatedResources.Add(Resource)
But when I call SaveChanges the added Resources aren't saved. I started to play around with self-tracking entities but it seems they cannot be serialized to ViewState and this is a requirement for me.how to either save my many to many relationships or serialize self-tracking entities?
I've been tortured with this question for few days. As I understood, you could put some of form's properties to mysettings, actually binding them with some named values as strings. It's not very hard, and it was well documented. I tried it and it works fine.Only, not all properties are offered to be bound with mysettings, only some of them. For example, you could bind starting position and windowstate, close your application, and when you open it again, it will open the same window on the same place on the
View 4 RepliesI have a connectionstring in MySettings which all my datasets use. The project has three copies of the same database: LIVE, WHATIF and TEST. I need to have a dialog in my startup that asks the user which db they want to use and then I thought I could amend MySettings.Connection string dynamically. Hey-ho it's read-only! Is there any other approach I can use where I change a connection string once and all my datasets will then point to the selected db?
View 3 RepliesWell currently I'm needing to store various settings, strings, integers, items, etc, within the program settings. So far this has gone without a snag and is working as planned except for one thing, Comboboxes. I have browsed through the various types of settings I can save to and the closest is a "System.Collection.Specialized.StringCollection", however VB is throwing up an error saying that:
Quote:
Error1Value of type 'System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.ObjectCollection' cannot be converted to 'System.Collections.Specialized.StringCollection'.C:UsersUserAppDataLocalTemporary ProjectsProjectForm1.vb1234Project
How would I go about saving the items in a Combobox?
I have defined a StringCollection in the Project Settings.I want to use the values in a ComboBox.Is there a way to access it xamly?
I tried:
<CollectionViewSource Source="{x:Static src:MySettings.Default.MyCollection}" />
<CollectionViewSource
[code]....
It appears that when you access My.Settings.Default in VB.NET, your thread's CurrentPrincipal changes. Consider the following code.
[Code]...
Is this expected? Is it documented anywhere? I couldn't find any references to it.It also seems to only do this the first time My.MySettings.Default is accessed, which means that a workaround might be to touch the property to initialize it before attempting to set the thread's CurrentPrincipal. Would there be any undesirable side effects to doing that?
I am declaring an IList:
Dim OrigVendors as IList
OrigVendors = new List( of IVendors)
I populate the OrigVendors variable and what I want to do is find all the objects that have the ID I am looking for. Then I need to update a property on that object for only the ones found. Is this do able with an IList or do I need to use some other type of collection? I am using VB.net.
I am using a loop to update properties of each object of a set of custom objects. The routine knows which controls to update because the controls value is not empty, I don't want the routine setting the corresponding properties to nothing when the control is empty. Now I know how to do this perfectly fine with IF statements such as:
CODE:
But this feels really redundant doing that same IF block over and over for each property/control combination, I thought about creating a separate routine that takes the control as an argument and does all the repetitive IF blocks but I don't know how I could also pass an object property to tell the routine to update that particular property.
I have a problem with this program
Form1.vb
Imports System.ComponentModel<br/><br/>Public Class Form1
Public Delegate Sub updatePB(ByVal value As Integer)
Private bgworker As BackgroundWorker = New BackgroundWorker
[code]....
I want to update an entity without loading the entity from the database first. I've accomplished this but only by knowing all of the entities properties and then using the "attachto" method. My issues is i don't want my app to need to remember all of the properties. Example:
[Code]....
[code]I want to make the Properties Window to update the properties for X and Y at each MouseMove, so they become immediately visible for the user.
View 2 RepliesI'm making a control and I am trying to finalize my design time properties grid. I have several List(of Class) items as public properties and when I click on the design time menu (while testing the control) there is the word "Collection" and a button with an ellipsis (...) that brings up a neat pop up with the buttons Add/remove and all of the public properties of the collection's class on the right hand side. Basically for a non-collection instance of a class (with public properties) I'd like a similar button to show up. I know I could put all of the properties in the main control class and group them, but I like the pop up box feature. Anyway to duplicate this? (think font grid item etc.)
View 3 RepliesIn the form design I set up a TableLayoutPanel, 20x20 cells and in cell (1,1) a PictureBox (called Target) containing the image of a small target. The properties box for Target shows some very promising properties, Column and Row - and if you overwrite the values in the properties box, the PictureBox obligingly shifts to the corresponding cell position in th design. However in VB it is not possible to refer to Me.Target.Row or .Column - neither appears during coding in the menu of properties, and deliberately coding either of them produces an error like
Error 1 'row' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.PictureBox'.
1. Why does the properties box show properties that cannot be altered programmatically?
2. How can my program move Target around in the TableLayoutPanel?
Is there a way to expose a UserControl's properties to the Properties Window in the Designer?
View 3 RepliesI'm working on a Hazardous Materials label printing program. One of the options is to do an "NFPA" label. Since there are 4 values required with 4 or 6 options, the ratings are entered via radio buttons in a group box. That's working okay. I display values in the NFPA diamond as they're entered: left quadrant blue, top quadrant red, left yellow, bottom red. I'm having trouble with the label in which the rating will be displayed on top of a jpg diamond for the white. In this quadrant the text can be up to 4 characters. I can accept the text going into an adjacent block a little, but the corners of the label overlap into another quadrant/color. I reduced the font size which solved the overlap problem but the font is then too small and looks terrible. I tried to make the background of the label transparent to let the color come through correctly but that's not a valid value for label.background. I'm figuring that the transparent background is the best solution. What can I use that will accept a transparent background so the color shows through?
I'm trying to set the transparent property via label properties properties, not via code. Here's the code if it makes any difference:
Public Class NFPA
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Close()
End Sub

How to change all properties of a form to properties of other but don't change important properties like Owner,Handle, OwnedForms, Parent,HasChildren,Controls and ... .I have a child form that i want it to provide controls of Form. The background form provides Aero frame and child form is a transparent form in it.I want it because I want to draw buttons with system style in Aero in Windows Forms. This is my own code but it does not work good (ForeForm is child form):
For Each Propertry In ForeForm.GetType.GetProperties()
Select Case Propertry.Name
Case "AeroBackgroundEnabled", "FormBorderStyle", "TransparencyKey", "Parent", "Owner", "ShowInTaskbar", "Handle", "HasChildren", "OwnedFo[code].....
Additionaly:I wrote a great Aero Form.I don't publish current version (1.2) that supports Aero Blur,RealTime Aero Color change, extend Basic theme?
I have my own class of graphic objects, and now I'd like to allow a user to right-click on one of those within the application and see a properties window. Is there a pre-built dialog or control for displaying properties at runtime? I'd like to have something just like the IDE properties window button for my application.

What I've done is create a User Control Library (Project) and I've added a single User Control to that project. The control contains a single FlowLayoutPanel, and I created a Property on the control itself to pass the FlowDirection from the Control to its FlowLayoutPanel child.
Build, reference, component appears in the Toolbox and everything works fine, but the property on the control does not appear in the Properties window when I go to edit it at design time.
I have a gridview in which when I click edit, update, and cancel button comes. I have a variable named status. If status=false then update should change to insert and if status=true then update should be update itself.

We have two update panels on our webpage. Now first update panel is having button cancel. While second update panel is having a file upload control. Now if the user uploads a file that is going to upload in about 2 mins, and in between, say after 30 seconds the user clicks the cancel button, the upload taking place in update panel 2 should stop.
View 2 RepliesI have a BLL class which contains properties for the fields in a Country table (CountryCode, CountryName, etc). It also has a property ioDAL, which is a reference to a DAL class (created with SubSonic 2.2), which has same named fields.
I have a LoadRecord() method which calls the DAL's FetchById() method that populates the DAL properties by calling the database (SQL Server 2005 FWIW).What I then want to do, rather than writing code to populate each BLL property from its DAL equivalent, is to use AutoMapper (from CodePlex). I think the line should be something like
Mapper.CreateMap(ioDAL, Me)()but this gives errors "Value of type (DAL class / namespace naming) cannot be converted to 'System.Type'" and "Value of type (BLL class / namespace naming) cannot be converted to 'System.Type'".

I am using an update panel and when I click a button it will update all the panels. updapanel1.update() is very simple, but my data is not updating unless I hit the button twice. My gridviews shows data for a selected user, and then all the grids reflect that users data. works fine all the update panels work for the gridviews. Now for somereason when i try to do a row count and update the panel with the summary, it does not work, i get either the previous users summary or if i hit update again for the same user i get the correct data.
