IDE :: Change The Windows Control Styles Before Main() Function?
May 20, 2009
I have controls like buttons, textboxes and all on all the forms in my project, by applying Application.EnableVisualStyles() before Main() Thread starts the controls will have look of XpStyles.
Suppose if i need the Font Size for all the Buttons in my project i need to write the Font Style Property on each form... but this process is very long as my project is big
is there any logic that without writing code on all the forms to update the button Font Size..

How would one insert a Function Main into a VB Windows application? I am trying to return an error code to the command line when this application ends, so that I can check that code through the %ERRORLEVEL% variable.

I am pasting into a RTB from the clipboard and from different sources. At the end, I want to reformat the content of the RTB in a way that all font styles (such as bold, italic etc) remain unchanged, but only the line spacing gets uniform.
I do not find a way to change line spacing without changing the font (and at the same time removing all the bold and italic attributes)

Ok i am making a game in visual basic where its 1998 and you have windows 95 and you find time travel software and travel to different time periods with different operating systems...so far i have coded windows 95 and partly windows 98 into the game and have a good time travel sequence... (this will be a completely free game in the future)
Theres just one major problem i have. Whatever operating system you are using for your current computer (windows 7 in my case) the buttons and tabs and everything else (apart from the windows border... or whatever you all it which i made myself) everything has the modern buttons on it.Hes an in game screen shot :As you can see it looks totally horrible... even the start menu has the windows 7 blue glow effect...I recently found another application (universe Sandbox) and it has the classic buttons even though i am using windows 7.how can i actually make my buttons classic? (without making picture boxes of each button)

I have a WPF window appliaction that I would like to build the functionality to have a dynamic style (font family, weight, size, etc) that is stored in a SQL database allowing a user to specify the type of style to use on control's such as ListView's and labels, etcI have started defining styles in the Application.XAML file and am not sure if this is the best approach to achieve a dynamic style.

I've done much research in how to turn off visual styles for a custom drawn control, and coming only close on how to do this.
The problem I am seeing is that Application.EnableVisualStyles affects a boolean which tells the control how it should paint itself. I don't have a problem with styles being enabled, but rather getting a button to be drawn without using the visual styles rendering function.
Public Class LookupButton
Inherits Button
#Region "Disable Themes"
[Code]....
Method 2 simply does not do anything, nor would I want to use it, since it calls unmanaged code.
Method 1 does the right thing for the button, disabling the theme, but of course it does way more than that causing the entire window/app to blink with/without visual styles. And even if this did work, I wouldn't use it because it effects the entire application.
We need visual styles enabled on progress bars, since marquee will be used on a few database calls.
The button has an image ontop of it which gets cut off by the visual styles rounded corners. And there are a few more controls which would be benificial to turn off visual styles as well.
If there is anyway to manipulate the ButtonRenderer so it does not render using visual styles, this is the solution I am looking for. Having no styling for any buttons is preferable.
This is for a project I am working on for my company. We have Visual Studio 2005 .NET Team Edition (per customer request), and are gold certified (which I don't want to give up community support/supporting the community, but is there any programming forums for us where our answers could be answered before 24 hours and/or the questions goes into consideration when microsoft develops tool?).
To me it seems silly to have Visual Styles enable-able for the whole application, when dealing with the windows api, individual windows/controls can easily be themed or unthemed.

I have taken over support of a VB.Net WinForms application. I am actually a c# developer and am more familiar with the setup of visual studio projects in c# projects. Now I am trying to determine why my application is crashing on a specific XP installation, and I read the suggestion here[URL]..to add a try catch block in the main function. This is suggested in about the 5th post from the bottom. (I will quote it below) However, if I look in the VB.Net visual studio project, I do not find a Main() procedure. What I do find is a grey folder called "My project" with a "Application.myapp" file inside it. This file has an associated designer file, but if I click on it I see the following xml:

I've got a Panel on a main Form containing a PictureBox control on Top of a TableLayout control. Both the child controls have their docking properties set to Top. The Picture control has sizemode set to Zoom.
What I'm finding is that the picture doesn't size properly when I start the app. There is a border at the top and bottom in the PictureBox control. It's only when I resize the overall form that it's correct.
So at the moment I've got this ugly bit of startup code, just to fix the problem Me.WindowState = FormWindowState.Normal Me.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized
What am I missing?

.NET solution does not contain a Main function

Every Visual Basic application must contain a procedure called Main.
I Didn't find such a method in my solution..
[Code]...
My problem is, in fact, I try to follow a recommendation that says: Clipboard.GetDataObject Always Returns null? If you find you're always getting null from GetDataObject, try adding [STAThread] before your static void Main().So, me, if I don't find Main()... I can't follow that recommendation in VB.NET...

We generally have main block to start the program or application first form.I wrote some code in main and it is within try can catch block.Catch block the errors. This try catch block is a global try catch for my whole application. Now if exception occur in the code will be handled in this catch. But Is there any good way to handle the exception in the catch block if occur?as I write error in log file but sometimes file can have permissions for writing etc and it can create exception. As this try catch is the outer most try catch block and if any error occur in that catch it will cause application to crash.

I have a new solution with 5 projects inside. a data access layer, database, 2 class libraries, and the main form. These are all components that I had worked on to get to this point of combining into 1 solution. Now what I have run into is I can not the actual functions in the class libraries. I can get to the class level, but that is it. ere is a sample line of code I need to get working. Once I get this one line, the rest will be obvious: Temperature is on the main form. get for options is "Equals, GetHashCode, GetType", etc... Before this I had bult, compiled, and referenced these classes separately, and it worked fine. I know this is going to be an easy answer, I'm just not seeing it for some reason.

You can change the connection string at run-time like this. You make the connection string setting available for writing as a separate property inside the MySettings class:
Partial Friend NotInheritable Class MySettings
Public WriteOnly Property RunTimeConnectionString()
Set(ByVal value)
[code]....
Then, in some place when the application is being initialized (before using any table adapters of typed datasets), write something like:
My.Settings.RunTimeConnectionString = My.Settings.ProductionConnectionString
Where ProductionConnectionString is a simple String setting. It is a User Scope setting so every user can change it (by assigning a value to it, similar to the code above) and save it by calling My.Settings.Save()This code works well for connection strings which were initially created in the main project and stored in it's settings (= app.config file).
The connection string in the app.config actually has a longer name: MyApp.MySettings.MyConnectionString.When you have a connection string stored in the app.config in a class library project, and reference that project in the main project, the app.config files will somehow be merged, so the class library has it's settings. The thing that don't know how to do, is change a setting from the class library at run-time. I could copy the connection string setting from the class library to the main project's app.config. I must keep the same name, which looks something like: MyClassLibrary.My.MySettings.MyConnectionString.Can the same principle I showed above be somehow applied to this second connection string?

Using vb.net. I've got a main form that displays when application is opened. A popup form can then be opened. If there are other windows opened on the desktop, for example windows explorer, then when the popup form is closed, the main form gets hidden behind windows explorer. You have to move windows explorer out of the way to get to the main form. Is there a way to keep this from happening?

I have an MDI form as the app start object.I don't think is related, but in the Form closing event, I check for some condition, and if it's true, I ask for confirmation before closing:
Private Sub FormBackground_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
If (e.CloseReason = CloseReason.UserClosing) Then[code].....
So long, everything works fine in my development machine, which runs windows XP.However, when deploying the application in a windows 7 machine, the message box works correctly, showing itself whenever it should, but after the form is closed the application keeps running in the background. This happens whether the form closes directly or asks the user first.I have fixed it putting an End instruction in the FormBackground.FormClosed event, but it doesn't feel good.

ive two custom controls, which are used to draw and edit etc...(like paint but customized....) i want to save their images with a single click....So im using the Getimageofcontrol function to do it....its code is below:::
Public Function GetImageOfControl(ByVal c As Control) As Image
Dim rc As New Rectangle(c.PointToScreen(c.Location), c.Size)
Dim i As Image = New Bitmap(rc.Width, rc.Height)[code].....
and the code to call this function for saving the images is simply.. ...
GetImageOfControl(pboxd).Save("c:78.jpg")
GetImageOfControl2(pboxf).Save("c:lp.jpg")
but the problem is that both the images have the same content....

I am looking for a way to be able to use the tab control on my main form and transfer all 3 other forms onto that main form that has the tab control. Problem being is that some functions are named the same in each of the septate forms i want to bring into just one for the tab control. Is there a way to separate the code for each form ON the main form of the tab control so i don't have to rename/recode each of the 3 forms i want to place on the main form of the tab control? [code]so when i put both form1 and form2 code on the main form where the tab control is, its going to tell me that i have a duplicate function name.
