I am trying to get this: System.Deployment.Application.ApplicationDeployment.CurrentDeployment.IsFirstRun.But the application namespace is not there. I just see System.Deployment.Internal. The object browser, however, shows me all the properties and methods of that namespace, but my app can't see it.?

I use VS 2008 Standard. If I do a QuickOnce deployment after resetting Application Files in the Publish Tab I get a bunch of messages saying that various files are not in the GAC. To solve this I change the Publish Status from Prerequisite (Auto) to Include and set Download Group to Required. Then when I install the application I get the splash screen and then the message that the application has stopped working. There was a workaround posted to delete /bin/obj/.cache etc, but I have no /bin/obj/ folder.

I publish my project normally to a folder in my computer. When I run the setup the following message appears:
"application validation did not succeed. unable to continue"
I am using a SQL Server database in my project, I don't know if it has anything to do with that..

I am trying to retrieve file details from files in the Program Files folder. I receive an error while trying to retrieve file details.
Dim sFileName As String = ("%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe")
Dim Info As FileVersionInfo
Info = FileVersionInfo.GetVersionInfo(sFileName)
Msgbox(Info.ProductName.ToString())
I receive file not found error at 3rd line. But if I change the path from "%ProgramFiles%Windows DefenderMSASCui.exe" to "c:Program FilesWindows DefenderMSASCui.exe" it works fine.
What should I do if I want to retrieve file details from the path which includes a "%" character?

Basically, we have an application which batch creates a large amount of files (pairs of PNG plus ASCII). The file count can exceed the one million.The first time the application ran the results were quite disappointing. The files get stored in folder structures of maximum 2000 files per folder. The tree depth gets only to two levels (root + packs folders). So the results would be stored in folders like "pack1","pack2"..."packn" each containing no more than 2000 files (1000 pairs in essence).
So getting back to the results, what happened was that although the application reported over 1.4 million files written, the results were that files were missing from the filesystem and others were corrupt (PNG cant be read and ASCII were blank filled with spaces).The speed that the files were written was not anything great (about 7 files per sec) and the total size ranged from 160K to 1.5M (rarely). The PNG images are 2000x2000 in size although I doubt it has anything to do with my problem.
Everything is done in pure .NET (image and ascii generation).The OS that has been tried was Win 2000 Advanced Server, Win 2003 Server plus XP Pro. The hardware ranged from Dual Core Workstation to high spec servers. The irony is that on the XP system the number of corrupt files was quite low where on the other two all hell broke loose. There were event logs written stating Event ID 2021 on the Win 2000 system and Paging faults on XP, which lead me to the next approach.
We wrapped the code to do an Application.DoEvents every second and refresh various statistic UI components. We obviously added Stream.Flush().Plus we added code to check the files (re-read them) once they are written. Even added "WriteThrough" option to avoid the OS cache! The result was stuggering as no errors were report yet the NTFS table again got corrupted!Now we inserted Thread.Sleep(100) after writing and then reading to confirm the file. Obviously this is slowing down the process but hope to have more stable results.
Reading and article about Event ID 2021 we saw it was suggesting to modify registry values, but the IT dep did not wish to accept this as they believe it is an application error.In pseudo code, here is more or less what is done:
<try>
<Create Image in memory>
<Open stream to filesystem>

I know how to get a list of files in a local Windows machine's specific directory:
Dim dirInfo As DirectoryInfo = New DirectoryInfo("C:Temp")
Dim fileListing() As FileInfo = dirInfo.GetFiles()
But how do I use this class for a mainframe system where user ID, password and 'change directory' command are needed?
When I attempt to just access the server without credentials and just do the Windows version and use the syntax "\server_nameAUTO:RPTS.", where 'AUTO:RPTS.' is the mainframe directory name I get the following error: "The given path's format is not supported."
When I just use '\server_name' I get: "The UNC path should be of the form \servershare."

Have built a project and associated it with a Setup&Deployment Project. The S&D project needs to contain 2 main folders (under User's Desktop) with various formats of files (xmls, txts, dlls) inside them and several subfolders. How can i copy/import these 2 folders and there sub-files/folders into my s&d project?
When adding them in the usual way, they are copied and defined a source path onto the current pc. You can understand what errors this might create when an another targeted pc does not contain those files to the exact location. Is there any way to copy them locally or somehow import them?

I have a database table where the user marks files to be downloaded. Subsequently, I browse this table and need to create a fileList to pass to an ActiveX downloader. My routine works locally and on the server for ONLY the first file. I know my logic must be bad, but I cannot find it. All of these files are always in the same server directory which is as follows:
"D:inetpubvhostsWebSite.comsessionVideos"
Sub (GetFileList)
Dim dtVideosSelected As New DataTable

I'm transferring from one FTP (a Dev site) to another FTP (a Test site). Spare me the thoughts of changing this process. In any case, here's my method:
Public Function TransferFile(originalFile As String, destinationFile As String) As String
Try
'FileStream for holding the file
Dim uploadRequest As FtpWebRequest = WebRequest.Create(destinationFile)
uploadRequest.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.UploadFile
[Code] .....
This works perfectly for ASPX files and their .vb code behinds. When we try to transfer .DLL files, they show up on the server as 0 bytes, and sometimes actually transfer. The problem is that, despite being the same size as the original, they act as if they are corrupt.

I have developed a windows based application using visual studio 2005 called DMS. On the client side, this application runs on asp dot net framework 2.0. We have created its setup file which has to be installed on the client pc. After the installation of the application, some of the users get the error message as:
DMS.exe - .net framework initiation error Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application
(I have also attached the screen shot of the error message.)Trouble shooting done by me:
a. I had tried the re-install Dot Net Framework 2.0.
b. Scanned the PC for virus attack.
c. Install dot net framework 2.0 first and then the application.
But none of the solution works. The only thing that works temporarily is un-install the whole application and re-install it. Then it works for a few hours.

I have a project that I am attempting to deploy. In my project I was using a SQL Express DB and after my first build I installed on my test PC only to find that it was going to make me install SQL Express which I defiantly do not want so I decided to scrap the DB.
I excluded the DB from the project, when into the project properties pages and removed all references to SQL and system.Data, Went into the code and removed all the "Imports" statements for SQL and Data and commented out all the SQL DB code. I then tried another build and had the same results. I started looking at the files and then I realized I did not change the app.config file. I went into it and deleted out the connection string entry. I built the project again only to have the same result. I cannot seem to see what could still be referencing SQL. Isn't commented code ignored?

I am deploying sql express as a prerequisite. I have created a custom prerquisite using bootstrap manifest generator. The problem I have is replacing the template.ini file which exists in the sqlexpr32.exe cab file. Winrar and winzip allow me to open the sqlexpr32.exe but will not allow me to edit, add or replace the template.ini.I also cannot find the path where the sqlexpr32.exe extracts to as I want to use that path for the settings file eg "template.ini".[code]

I'm using VB.NET in Visual Studio 2008 in a Vista 64-bit OS. I'm trying to find an easy way (there must be one) to quickly retrieve from the registry the application file name and path to use in a Shell command to open a particular file. Specifically, I want the user in my app to be able to click on a PDF file and have the app open that PDF file using the application associated with PDF file types - Acrobat Reader, for example. Anyone have any suggestions as to proper coding & syntax for the following sequence?:
(1) Get name of .exe file associated with .pdf file type (most likely from the HKey Root Classes hive)
(2) Get path for the .exe file
(3) Shell("[pathname]appname.exe filename.pdf")
I've spent a couple of hours looking through the forums and haven't found what I'm looking for.

I successfully retrieve a user (call it userA) from Active Directory that exists in Domain A in the users subdirectory. I then try to remove the user from AD by doing
dim theParent as DirectoryEntry = userA.Parent
theParent.children.Remove(usera)
This fails because when I look at the parent node in a Watch Window in Visual Studio, all of its members say COMInterop.Exception.

I recently upgraded from vb.net 2003 to vb 2008. I see that when I "Build" the application all of the program files are generated, must like with vb.net 2003. When I use the ClickOnce publish approach, a set of files are generated including the setup.exe. When I double click on the setup file, the program installs deep down in My Documents. If I navigate to that location there is a complete set of my application files along with some Manifest files and a Manifest folder.
I wish to package my program for installation using INNO Setup Compiler, because it is very flexible and allows me to add information and choices through the installation process. My question is - if I package the "Publish" set of files, should I be including the files that are generated and located in the "Manifest" folder? and if so, do these files need to be located in their own folder as was installed on my computer? Or can I simply add them to all of the program files?

I am using vb.net express 2008, with a windows form application, and its done. My application makes use of cmd script files, and other files I have created myself. I want to put everything in an install bundle, which will copy the files to a directory on the users computer, and then my application can read from that directory, for it to function as it should. The install bundle includes the .exe of my winforms application.Right now, I hardcoded my application to look into a specific folder on my system, just for testing purposes, but I am going to deploy it soon, and I want to give as much flexibility to the user.

The main problem is I couldn't display the result when I retrieve data from database.
1. On Picture 1 above, for the Dg_Details, I set the Columns in two type, textbox and checkbox. But, for the datagridview1, I didn't set anything.So, when I bind data from database to Dg_Details and datagridview1, the datagridview1 display the data from database, but the Dg_Details doesn't display the data. Below is the code I written in my form :
Try
objCommand = Me.MyConnection_F.open.CreateCommand
objCommand.CommandText = "select Reg_Num, Reg, Golf, Course_1, Course_2, Course_3, Course_4, Course_5 from Invoice_Reg where Receipt_No = '00001'"[code].....
I think that's happen because the Dg_Details already set and it blocked the result data from database.
