View 2 RepliesI've been using VS 2005 for quite some time and will be jumping to VS 2010 shortly. Are there any gotchas to be concerned about in making that transition? Is this a side by side install?
View 6 RepliesI have a point in the screen that i want to be the same as the resolution changes. I'll explain better. Look out the example [code] Here I'm trying to get the diference between my own resolution(1280x800[its a notebooks resolution]) and the point in this resolution that i want the mouse to be is 120,540.But when I change the screen size it doesnt work of corse.Are there anyone that can help me with it?
View 2 RepliesI have 2 listbox's. Both contain a list with urls. I need to compere this listbox's and to optein only the urls that are not repeat. How to do this? Or other option with only one listbox but to do the same, to show only urls that are not repeat.
View 6 RepliesI am trying to use a free 3rd-party DLL (SmartWIM.DLL - Smartdeploy Imaging Component) which is, essentially, a COM wrapper for the WIMGAPI DLL for creating images of Windows drives.You have to register the dll with REgSVr32 of course Now, included with the installation package is a VBS that does a CreateObject for the SmartWIM object. When I use the VBS I can successfully create an image with the CaptureImage method.However, when I convert the same code to VB.NET and called exactly the same method, the CaptureImage method "hangs".By that I mean it successfully creates an image file but then doesn't do anything else. I am at loss to understand why it would work when run via a VBS and not work in a VB.NET Console application?
View 2 Repliesim trying to find a small difference in 2 images and return the x, y of where the difference was found, i have no idea where to start.
View 3 RepliesI always used to define variables like Dim xxxx As yyyyy. In the tutorials I'm looking at though they do Private Const xxxxx As yyyyy. I wonder just what is the difference here? What is the significance of this change? What am I actually doing with 'Dim' and what is this Private Const doing different?
View 12 RepliesI am trying to calculate the difference between 2 times.
So far I have 4 labels.
Label1 = Current date and time.
Label2 = Contains the exact time that the application was last closed.
Label3 = Contains the exact time that the application was opened.
Label4 = I want this label to say how much time in seconds had elapsed between the application last being closed and the application being opened again, in other words the difference in seconds between label 2 and label 3.
Below is what I have done so far, but despite repeated efforts I can't seem to find a way of getting the time difference to show in label 4?

I am looking to create an application that uses a remote mysql database, takes a picture from a live video stream, and also interfaces with an RS232 weighing scale. I'm just looking for a one or two sentence definition on what the huge differences are between VB Express and Standard.
I am a PHP developer and I have never worked with VB before (well maybe since high school 10 years ago). I am looking to either use vb or c++ to create this, but I have limited knowledge of any programming outside of web programming.
I have a DataTable with two DateTime columns: "start_time" and "end_time".Now, I want to add a third column that calculates the difference between the two DateTimes. But I can't seem to figure out how. I've tried to set the .Expression-value to "start_time - end_time", but it says that "-"-operator is not allowed on DateTime.
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to obtain the values using the prospective GetValue(s) methods but I don't understand the syntax of the documentation. I'm sending the correct bindings (I believe) to filter the fields, and properties that i'm interested in usually

View 8 RepliesAs the subject says, I was wondering what's the difference between the InvokeMember("click") and RaiseEvent("click"). Also I see around example of InvokeMember("onclick"). What's the difference with just "click"?
View 1 RepliesI've been using VB for some time now, but I must admit I am a little confused. I started learning with 2002, then 2003, 2005 and now 2008. I think database coding must have been going through a kind of transition when I was trying to teach myself the basics. As a result, I am not entirely clear on a few things..
1) What's the difference between a DataTable and a DataSet. Why would I use one over the other?
2) Personally I dislike using DataAdapters etc and much prefer typing my connections in code so I can see what's what. When using the visual tools things are 'hidden' from view and it's not clear what's going on - do others find the same or is this just me being old fashioned?
3) Using my code-based approach (ie: creating SQL connection, using ExecuteNonQuery and a SQLDataReader to read the results into my application) - is this less efficient than the alternative methods?
4) Finally...LINQ. Is it any better and should I be using it as standard practice?
what exactly the difference between using cases and if statements are.

View 4 RepliesI am used to working with menubars in v2003 and before and could merge menu items with no problem. I used the code below in combination with merge order settings in the menu bar and it worked great. Now using Menustrips, I find my code does not want to convert since there are Items in the menustrip and menuitems in the menu bars.
'Determine if a Menu exists.
Public Function DoMenuExist(ByVal mnuItem As String) As Boolean
Dim itm As MainMenu

I need to merge a child menustrip into the parent menustrip when the user opens a module from clicking an item in the parent menustrip item.
What is the difference between nesting an 'If' statement in and 'Else' statement and using an 'ElseIf' statement? In the example below, the controls labeled [nAMEoFdAY]Limit are instances of the NumericUpDown object, each representing a day of the week. I need the application to decide which NumericUpDown to draw the value from based on the current day of the week. Will this code work or should I use the 'ElseIf' statement, and if so, how?

View 4 Replieshow to get the time difference between 2 date & times Where
from_time falls >= 22:00 of the From_date & the to_time falls <= 06 of the To_Date

From_Date = 01/01/2011 20:00 ' Where Work Started
To_Date = 02/01/2011 08:00 'Where Work Ended
Time_Covered_Between_22TO06_As_Night = 22:00 to 06:00 is 08:00 hrs How to equate it?
I just discovered the DataTable.Select-function, and boy I'm glad I found it! It makes my code run several times faster. But, I don't quite understand why it's so much faster than my previous code. In my first code, I looped trough my DataTable to find the specific row, like this:

I have a program that someone else designed the form on and sent to me to populate the code. I am not sure what could have been done to cause this problem, hoping for a quick oversight on my part. There are several fields of textboxes that the user enters numbers in. Normal behavior for textboxes is when you tab to them the current contents are highlighted. On one of these textbox fields, and only that one set of textboxes, the contents are highlighted like normal at first, but after the user edits the content of the textbox, if you tab to it again it will go directly into edit mode instead of highlighting the contents. Each textbox in the field does this individually, so if you just edit one, all the rest will continue to highlight contents until you edit them as well. It appears you don't actually have to change the value of the textbox, just entering edit mode and getting a blinking cursor is enough. I cannot find a difference in the properties of these textboxes compared to the rest.
