Large String Concatination Error "system.memoryoverflowException"

Feb 2, 2012

I have developed software which can upload and download a large amount of data.

I am using language = .net 2005 ,OS = XP (32bit) , processor = duo core (3.00 GHz), RAM = 2GB. I have read a file up to 50 mb and then split it 2mb each. So no of pieces of the total 50 mb file will be 25. This split 2mb file will upload 25 times. But in this case I always get the exception "The operation has timed out" . I don't know why this is happened. Is it the fault of Internet connection speed or else ? Except this upload when I download the 2mb each, up to 50mb then I got 'System.OutOfMemoryException' .

Actually I have download 2mb file at a time and concat it in a stringbuilder object. This will do up to 25 times. But suddenly when it concat the string it get the exception 'System.OutOfMemoryException'.

I don't know why this happened. If I used up to 14mb file. It properly uploads and downloads but if I used the large file like 50mb then it get error. I have given you a sample code, so that you can understand the problem.

Private s_ReceiveMessage As New StringBuilder()
Dim data as string = ""
data = "2mb DATA"

I wrote the code below which calculates the length of a line on the form and save record. An error occurs when the programme tries to save the record. It gives me "Cannot perform '=' operation on System.Int32 and System.String" error. I checked the data type of "ID"(int), "Microscope"(Varchar), "Magnification"(int) and "Calibration"(Decimal), and they are fine so far as I know.

Code:

Large Array = System.OutOfMemoryException Workaround?

Jan 23, 2009

I'm downloading a bunch of files from a URI but when they get big, I get an utOfMemoryException. I thought at first it was MemoryStream error but I'm pretty sure now that the error is rooted in the declaration of an array of Bytes that's too large. (Half a gig is fine, 1.7 gig is not.)

Interface And Graphics :: Menu Navigation For Large System?

May 26, 2010

We are in the final stages of releasing a new in-house written system within our company. We have opted to create a single system/project containing multiple programs (like a mini ERP system).We are stuck on the navigation mechanism which will allow the user to load the appropriate forms. I am personally not a fan of the Tree View control because I think it is unfriendly to users. I have been looking on the web for some inspiration and I am interested in the design of the OPEN BRAVO ERP system. Before we dive in though, I wanted to get other programmers opinions. What do you find works best in VB 2008?

Local Storage System For Relative Large Information

Nov 10, 2011

I've been reading a lot of articles here and there, really, for the past two days, searching for a good local storage system. I have no immediate use for now, so I am just exploring my choices. By saying 'local storage system,' I'm talking about some sort of database used for applications that let users manage and organize personal accounts (bank accounts, web site accounts, application licenses...). I do use XML to store user settings. But if you have to manage lots of information locally, XML won't probably be good enough, I'm afraid.

So what are choices Visua Basic users? Well, as I often mention, I develop Mac software products. And I use SQLite. In fact, every one of some 40 apps sold at Mac App Store uses SQLite for good reasons. I know that you can use SQLite with Visual Studio after installing a package from sqlite.phxsoftware.com. But I don't know if your application can reproduce a database file when necessary. That being said, I'm looking for a system that I can use to create a file programmatically especially when the user launches it for the first time. So what do you use to locally manage large information? SQL Express? SQLite? XML?

I read online that this does not apply if you are doing a direct insert, but I do not know how to create the insert string for a Byte Array. This is a thick client running on the server so not worried about SQL Injection attacks.

VS 2008 Searching A Large String?

Jun 27, 2009

I haven't programmed for some time, so I'm a little rusty Basically I'm storing HTML within a variable, and I need to count the amount of times a specific element appears e.g. <h3 class=r> for now.

I thought of using a for each loop, and passing the string above into the parentheses of the loop (using a variable ofc) however for many reason's, I don't think this has a chance of working (won't bother explaining why, as I assume you can guess). Then thought of using the .Contains method of the string class, but I simply can't think of how to use it with what I'm trying to do.

Value Was Either Too Large Or Too Small For An Int16 Error

Jun 9, 2010

I am working on fixing a bug in VB that is giving this error. I am new to VB, so there is some syntax that I am not fully understanding. The code that is throwing the error says:

.Row(itemIndex).Item("parentIndex") = CLng(oID) + 1000000

I understand that adding 1000000 is too much for an int16. I can't change that value (not right now anyway). What I don't understand, and can't seem to find, is what .Row is referring too.

Compress Large Integers Into Smallest Possible String?

May 5, 2011

I have a bunch of 10 digit integers that I'm passing in a URL. Something like: "4294965286", "2292964213". They will always be positive and always be 10 digits. I'd like to compress those integers into the smallest possible form that can still be used in in a URL (aka letters and numbers are perfectly fine) and then uncompress them later. I've looked at using gzipstream but it creates larger strings, not shorter.

Remove Empty Space From A Large String?

Oct 5, 2009

I try to remove empty space from a large string, using replace(), and using regex.

the replace method:

replace
Do While (stripped.IndexOf(Space(2)) >= 0)
stripped = stripped.Replace(Space(2), " ")
Loop

and with regex using its replace with : "/ss+/" - regular expression.

but I am still stuck with empty strings such as :

temp ""String

these string have lengths ranging between 3 and 8, so I have tried to adapt the replace function with something like this:

replace 2

Do While (stripped.IndexOf(Space(4)) >= 0)
stripped = stripped.Replace(Space(4), Space(1))
Loop

VB 2010 + HTMLAgilityPack + Large Processing = Error?

May 22, 2012

I have spent way too much time trying to sort this little issue out. I have narrowed down the issue to the exact procedure that throws the error. Yes, I have used Google..

Try
Dim tempSource as String = Nothing
Console.WriteLine("Loading document...")

[code]....

I am loading a text file, that contains about 1100 lines, and each line is going to be processed with HTML Agility Pack. From what I can tell, when it runs "doc.loadhtml(richtextbox1)", it throws the error. I also have tried to load the file into a string, and load the string with "doc.loadhtml(thestring)". It doesn't make a difference, still errors.

Here are is a sample of how each line looks:

<Site Index="" Name="" Group="" PR="" />
<Site Index="" Name="" Group="" PR="" />

[code]....

I am using HTML Agility Pack, however the above is what is on every line, about 1100 lines! For testing, I have a smaller text file made of about 50 lines before I load up the 1100 line file ;) There aren't any HTML, HEAD, or BODY tags! They aren't needed for my parsing. I am using HTML Agility Pack because it is easy to parse elements with. I can grab each value easily from each line.

I am not sure if maybe the error is because it technically isn't HTML? Meaning since the loaded code doesn't have an HTML or BODY tag, that it errors? I wanted to get this question posted, and while I am waiting on some answers, I am going to parse the document another way. Just curious as to what the deal is and why HTML Agility Pack isn't working. More of a proof of concept then anything, for my own learning and knowledge.

Here is the error I get (btw the on the doc.load() line, is where it throws the exception):

Object reference not set to an instance of an object

Last Note: The routine is on a background thread. I have used multi-threading before, and have delegates created for deeper in the code.
