I have two linked tables in my database (access), one is for the student and one is the ages(selection drop list ).
When I have transfered the data in vb form, a simple text box is shown with numbers in it. How can I have the drop down list shown with the data I need instead of the numbers?

I currently changing an in-house Access Database to Visual Basic 2010. Since they are used to tabs in Access, I decided to use MDI Parent and MDI Child. What I dont allow is for the user to change the size of the Child. With that, I used a menu strip making one of the items [Open Windows] the MdiWindowListItem which worked great for awhile. Now I can not get any list to show no matter how many windows are opened. About the only thing I can think of that may or may not be the issue is I allow another MDI Child attached to the Parent from the MDI Child. Like below:

Even with removing this code to test it this caused it still had the same issue. I even went as far as adding a new menu and attaching it to the MdiWindowListItem with the same results.
How can i set the tool combobox when i write any thing the drop down list goes down and data begins to appear?as Google when you want to search for something it begins to suggest words for you. is it a special tool?
View 16 Repliesi am currently creating a program which will draw out a company logo, which uses a picturebox a couple of radiobuttons which selects the type of shape which will be displayed, and a combo box which selects the color of the shape. i am kind of lost with the combo box, like how do i add the list of colors that is in visual studio and make it to automatically show on the combo box, what color to select.
View 3 RepliesI need to be able to check from code whether the SuggestAppend List (not sure if that's it's proper name, I mean the dropdown that appears when you start typing into a combo whose auto-complete mode has been set to Sugest Append) is currently showing. Basically I'm looking for something similar to the DroppedDown property but applying to the SuggestAppend List rather than the Drop Down. Can anyone tell me what property I should be looking at?
The reason I need this is I need to do some work when a user cancels an edit in the combo by pressing escape. I've trapped the escape keypress but this only represents an edit cancellation if the dropdown list and the suggest append list aren't currently showing (otherwise the escape just closes the list).
When we click on drop down combobox control in our windows form, it shows the list automatically. But when we press tab and navigate to that control from keyboard it doesn't shows the list automatically. So in other to show the list automatically on receiving focus what should be done?

View 1 RepliesUsing Visual Basic 2010 Express on Windows 7 whilst learning to program a database application using windows forms. I created a database (.mdf I think) with a tables e.g. patient details. Then created a form and dragged dataset and database adapter follwed by dragging database fields - this all worked perfectly well. I then created a table "tblSuburbs" with key suburbID, suburb, postcode fields. This also went well when creating a form to add, modify or delete suburbs. I modified my Patient table to include a link to the Suburb table - creating a relationship and saving both tables. Here comes my problem - Whilst the Database Explorer shows the "_SuburbID" field I added to my patient table, it does not show up in the DataSet even after I try and "refresh" every "refresh" button I can find. I need the DataSet to show the link field as I need the User to select which Suburb they in.

I am making a project in VB 2008 that has a Form (form1) that allows me to add new records to a database, and another Form (form2) that allows me to search for records in a database. I have done Form1 already, but my problem arrives in Form2 where I have to query the database. This form consists of 1 textbox (txt_search.text), 1 button (btn_search) and 1 datagridview (datagridview1). The name of my database is db_extras_test2003.mdb and the table I want to search records from is tbl_contacts.
I know +/- the SQL sintax to query the database (SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE columnname = (here i dont know if i put the variable name i have set for the txtbox, or the textbox itself)).I want this in a way that I (or other users) type in the textbox, hit the Search button and the results are shown in the datagridview (i can show the results in another way if it is better to do so).I have done the connection to the database already. Currently, the following code shows a blank line if Address2 (which comes from the database) is Null. How can I condition on the value of <%#Container.DataItem("Address2")%> so I can get rid of the blank line if Address2 does not exist (or is Null) in the database? I am using VB Exopress 2008 and SQl Server Express 2008 in Windows Vista Home Premium. I have created a dataset after importing all tables and queries from MS Access to SQL Server. I have now added a view in SQL Server that I want to access and use in VB Express. However on clicking "Refresh" for the dataset the new view does not display in the available objects, only those I originally imported and opened with the original dataset. What, pleas am I doing wrong? How can I see this new View?
View 3 RepliesI have combed these forums and the 'net and can't find an answer to my specific problem. My menu strip disappeared (after deleting a small secondary form within my project). I therefore created a new strip and while recreating the menu items realized that the original menu items are still present, showing in my properties list. I have checked my design file as well and the original menu strip is definitely gone but the original menu items are there. I don't have many items so I would have no problem just deleting the original ones but I can't see them to delete them! I have checked and they are all set to visible. I have also moved everything on my form to see if it is behind anything else.

I've got a list box and I want to save it to a database. I've tried treating it like a normal textbox with a max string length of 50. However this doesn't work for some reason.
Does any one know how to save a list box to the database, and preferably with a variable length, although the latter is not a necessity.

View 4 Repliesi have a windows form with controls that i have associated with a database. all controls display the correct value but i'm having problem with 1 of them. i have added a listbox (not even sure if that is the correct control for that) where i want to display the list of the first column from the database. i want the listbox to display all items so when i click on one item, the other controls will be updated with the information about that item. i know the connection to the DB works because all other controls have the values from the first item. only the listbox is empty.

View 7 RepliesI have a requirement for a form where user can add a list of 'documents'. These could be word, excel, images etc... pretty much anything. They want a form where they use the openfiledialog to locate the document and then want the list of documents stored on a database.
However, when they view this form they want a preview of all of the listed documents and the ability to print them all. I was considering a datagrid view with image cells but how would I show a word document in there? Or, should I insist that they convert all documents to PDF's?
