I have an application that re-curses through sub-folders and adds them to a database, I'm running into issues with a folder/path being beyond 255 characters and the code not being able to list the sub-folders for the folder. The code I'm using is below, the program crashes when it reaches the first line upon reaching the folder which is 256 characters long.
Public Sub AddSubFolders(ByVal TopPath As String, ByVal TopFolderID As Integer, ByVal UNCValue As String)
'Called by StartAddSubfolders to check for sub-subfolders and add those to the database.
'The procedure recalls itself to check for further sub-folders.

I'm just using the default SQL Server Express in my vb 2008 express edition as my database server for my database operation. When I tried to update the records on my table I got a runtime error which indicates the error on this line 'myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()'and it highlights a yellow background on it. The runtime error says "SqlException was unhandled: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Number'. ".

I would like to know if there are some in built functions for the scenario that is described below :
The input is the path of a parent folder. Wat the function must do is , it should list out all the .zip files inside that parent folder. The parent folder can contain any number of subfolders, and the same applies to the subfolders too ..
VB version is not a barricade. Any of the versions VB6 or VS2005 can do. Also is there any other alternative way if there are no inbuilt functions as such.

I'm using Visual Basic Express 2008 to create an interface with a order database in MS Access 2007 (.accdb file). Everything is fully functional except updating the "Inventory" table is very slow. Updating around 2200 items takes almost 2 minutes and the window will appear as "not responding" for the duration if you click away and come back. Here is the process:1. Tab-delimited text file is picked by user, which includes all inventory items (not just new ones)2. Each line from text is parsed and read into variables (tempSKU, tempItemTitle, etc.)3. Old items are updated and new ones are added. -> This is the bottleneck
I used to have a series of IF statements to check which elements were changed and report them, but that was about 2x as slow. The new code is a little faster but doesn't provide the feedback I liked (update part is commented around):
Private Sub btnImportInv_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) andles btnImportInv.Click
Dim strName As String
[code]....

In VB6, I used to declare my variables like this:
Dim x As Integer
Dim iLongName As Integer
i.e. All the types tabbed to line up.When I click "Pretty listing (reformatting) of code" in settings, it won't let me do this - and without "Pretty" switched on, the code is a mess (as a VB programmer, I'm not used to having to do things myself). Is there any way to configure this all or nothing option so I can get the best of both worlds?
John
PS. Sorry if this sounds trivial.

I create a new Windows Forms application and add an AboutBox form which is built-in into Visual Studio. I add a button to Form1 to show the AboutBox when clicked. The AboutBox form has a label with the text "Version" on it. The following code is supposed to add the application's version to that label at run-time:
Me.LabelVersion.Text = String.Format("Version {0}", My.Application.Info.Version.ToString)When the application version is changed in the Publish tab of the My Project form to 2-0-3-6, the version on the AboutBox at run-time stays at 1.0.0.0 (of course after rebuilding).
Even when the application is published to the desktop, it still does not work. It does, however, reflect the correct version number in the title of a subfolder in the Applications folder that is created when the application is published.

how would i go over an external directory listing (like an external computer that i am connected to through winsock or likewise) with a server and client..i would like to hear some suggestions on what libraries to use also (winsock, unolib,...)I need this for a school assignment so help is more than welcome. I'm planning on letting the client download files from the server through this directory listing or something likewise..it doesn't matter really if it's a directory listing or something else, it just has to be user-friendly.

We're trying to access the Sent Items folder in Outlook 2007 (using Exchange) but the test for TypeOf(i) Is Outlook.MailItem in the below code snippet always returns False. We know we have the right folder because a test for items.Count returns the correct number of mail items.Inbox messages are fine. If we change the folder from olFolderSentMail to olFolderInbox the test for TypeOf(i) Is Outlook.MailItem passes and it's quite happy to show us the Subject.

I wish to know what location does the "|Data Directory|" in "|Data Directory|XYZ.sdf" that shows in the connection string when I create a dataConnection using the wizard in VB 2010 Express. Is it the Application's directory in Program Files or is it the AppData folder of the client computer. If it is the Application Directory in Program Files then the client user wont be able to write to the database without Admin rights. If so how do I make a dataConnection to a file in the AppData folder using the new data connection wizard.
