View 6 RepliesIn VB6, I used to declare my variables like this:
Dim x As Integer
Dim iLongName As Integer
i.e. All the types tabbed to line up.When I click "Pretty listing (reformatting) of code" in settings, it won't let me do this - and without "Pretty" switched on, the code is a mess (as a VB programmer, I'm not used to having to do things myself). Is there any way to configure this all or nothing option so I can get the best of both worlds?
John
PS. Sorry if this sounds trivial.
it's possible to list items in a specific folder....Let's say I have items, located in a folder at "C:TestData" and let's say all the item is a .doc file such as 'test1.doc', 'test2.doc', test3.doc' and many more...How would you list those items in a VB form?!Do i use Groupbox, ListBox, or something else..
View 1 RepliesAll I am trying to do is write a simple program that will let me choose a directory and get a listing of all files in that directory and its sub-directories and show it in a RichTextBox. I got as far as being able to select the directory but when I click "OK" I get "access to c:documents and settingsstevedesktopmp3 is denied".The code I am using is listed below.

We are creating a Who wants to be a millionaire style game in VB. Our server is pulling information such as questions and answers from a Access Database and sending them to the contestants (Clients). All transfer of information is directly from the server to each client. One of the "Life Lines" we want to use is "Ask a friend", where one client is able to Instant message another client for a short time to get help on the question.

I have a TCP connection code for client and server communication. It's not meant to be malware but it collects the clients computer information and then connects to the server.
It successfully "connects" but then immediately disconnects. Here is the code for the server:
Dim Listener As TcpListener
Dim Client As TcpClient
Dim ClientList As New List(Of ChatClient)
Dim sReader As StreamReader

I have port forwarding all done and it works if I run the client and server on my own machine. If I run the client on another machine though It gives me a message box saying that it connected with the clients remote IP and at the same time it tells me it disconnected. The client never sends the system information. What is the problem?
I'm trying to code to run 2 instances of the same client at the same time.Using a simple form with a button with system.dyecnostic.process.start(program path) to run the instance to start with. Now the problem starts with trying to run a second it just loads and closes and sends me to the first. how to negate this so I can get 2+ of the clients up?
View 3 RepliesI am trying to code a client - server program. I have 4 winsock controls on my main form. The client is able to connect to a free one just fine, and can figure out if they are all in use. When testing my program, I found that when I try to send data through a socket, then send different data directly after, it jumbles the data together.
CODE:
That is the code I am using. When the client is connected to the server, and ready for data, it sends the packet "@Ab". When the server receives this packet, It is supposed to send the welcome alert, and then current events posted in the server.
On the client side, there is a message box that is supposed to show the welcome alert, and at the bottom on a status strip, the current events are supposed to be listed.
When the welcome alert shows, it contains the alert text fine, but then shows the packet for the events after it.
Is there any chance who can give me a sample code for client-server applications using vb.net 2008 express edition/professional edition?
1. What SQL Server should I use? Can we use SQL Server 2000 for Client-Server application as my back end database? and will use the vb.net 2008 express edition as front end?
2. If we use these two components (SQL Server 2000 (Back-end) + (VB.Net 2008 Frontend) do you think this will works properly?
3. If this is possible by accessing via code? then please send me connection string.
4. Is there any database server we can use? asides from sql server? where we can implement client-server applications? how about oracle? MySQL Database Server?
I'm trying to familiarize myself with network programming, and what better place to start than designing an FTP client code library? So far I'm not doing very good. I'm trying to create a method which downloads a file from a remote server to a local file path. To do so, all the examples that I could find declare a byte array that serves as a data buffer. I completely understand the point of doing that, rather than reading and writing byte per byte, but I just can't get it to work. Whenever I set a buffer greater than 1 byte, the output is somehow corrupted (different checksums, media files won't play etc).[code]Because this code does work when I set the buffer size to 1, I feel like there's something going wrong with the byte order. But all of this code is synchronous, so how is that even possible.[code]
View 1 RepliesI am working on a client/server based application and I have run into quite a few snags stumbling my way through I have resolved quite a few issues, and need help with something new. I am using a TCPIP client/server and I find that at the end of each loop when I am reading the data from the network stream it appends a character to the end. I have tried removing the last character but I am not sure if it is getting the whole character successfully because I still get lots of different errors both in binary and xml deserialization whcih I think is related to this. Does anyone know the ascii code for the termination character for TCPServer/Client communications?
View 15 RepliesIs this even possible? tried several ways and i have no idea how to continue. Using vb.net in vs 2008 and itextsharp This is my code for creating the pdf.. also have alot of code to fill it
Dim doc As New Document(iTextSharp.text.PageSize.LETTER, 90, 80, 80, 90) Try
PdfWriter.GetInstance(doc, New FileStream(Server.MapPath("PDF.pdf"),FileMode.Create))
But this saves the pdf.. can i do it any other way?
I have been reading through Atheists posts in regards to client-server and TCP client/server connection's. But how do i go about writing a program with 1 client and server where the client side creates a text file.Once the server sees there is a text file it connects and downloads it to itself or the client pushes the text file to the server.Once on the server i will read the text file and put its info into a sql db.
View 14 RepliesI have an application that takes a series of reports and sends them as attachments in an email to a specified group of email accounts.
When I run the Java version of this using apache commons and the same setting, the email is sent. However, when I run the VB.NET version of the code, it fails on my local machine and on the client machine.
I have a VB.NET web application running on a server that uses similar code. I tried that code locally and it fails. Yet, the web application is working perfectly.
Why is it that the Java application can send the email, but the .NET application cannot?[code]....
Im using the code from [URL] as a starter, most of the code is the same. the chat system works fine but on the client a added a disconnect button "clientSocket.Close()" and as soon as i click that i get errors, on the client, this is the code...
Private Sub getMessage()
For infiniteCounter = 1 To 2
[CODE]...
And this line...
serverStream.Read(inStream, 0, buffSize)
gives me "Unable to read data from the transport connection: A blocking operation was interrupted by a call to WSACancelBlockingCall."
Now im talking the server, after the client clicks disconnect or closes by task manager, looses connection, etc the server crashes and gives me.
Can I send an object from client-side javascript to server-side code via ASP.NET ?
View 5 RepliesI hoping to find a current and simple way to do this. I'm using VWD Express 2008 and SQL Express 2008.I'm able to get the client's path to the image file using an asp:FileUpload control on the web form.
How do I upload the client's image file and display it in the web form's image control? How do I save it to the sqlserver? The image table is already set up with a "Image" data type column. Can the image be saved to the database as simply as other data types?
I know this defeats the purpose of client side vs. server side (refer to title of this thread). What I would love to do is build my own custom progress indicator on the client showing how far a server side code has progressed. I figure if I could only get a JavaScript to fire and render a value of some control at pre-defined intervals while the server is working I could make it happen - but alas I'm beginning to believe that this is impossible. Below is some code that performs three 2 sec loops. At the end of each I want to change the visible value of a control on the browser. [Code]
View 8 RepliesUsing the VB.net code from Athiest's post I have got a TCP server and client working, my problem is the Server side is too confusing and has too much functionality that I do not need. Using the below code I can get the server to send the client a message and I can have the client display that in a Message Box, I can also have the Client send the Server a message but I cannot get the server to display that text in a message box.

View 1 RepliesIs it possible to list the available MySQL databases on a computer? At work we run a model that generates a MySQL database full of results, 360 odd tables, when the model is a MySQL database is created containing the results and what I need to do is to be able to list all available databases, allow one to be selected and transfer all of the tables to a blank Access database cretaing the relationships once all of the tables have been created. The tables contain all the primary keys and foreign keys, eg Table1 may contain cust_Numb and table2 may contain cust_numb_pkey.Is this possible?Initially I asked this on a ACCESS forum, but am hitting a few brick walls so thought I'd ask on here as well.

I have created my own file system that is used for heavily encrypting all files on the drive. It has to use up to 7 partitions though. What I need it to do is add all partitions/directorys/files to a treeview. Something like this:
for each partition as safTfiles.partitions.partition in drive
add_partition()
for each folder as safTfiles.folders.folder in partition
add_folder_to_partition
[code].....
so it need to be able to click on a treeview node and expand, showing all subdirectorys and files.
why my code is not listing the sub directories in the list box?
Public
