Something happened to my VS2005 setup and now the first time load for F1 can take a full minute to load. I think the last significant thing I did was install an add-in for ESRI ArcExplorer. I uninstalled that add-in but help is stil VERY slow to start.Does anyone recognize the problem and have a simple fix?

My code is working fine I just need a way to reset the DataAdapter1 into 0 (like reset) So if the user hit the button search 2 times to shows up only 1 time the elements of database "product".. If i used the code below and hit 2 times the button the DataGridView show 10 product for examplat the first time and +10 for the second, a total of 20 products, even if I search then edit a product and search again it's fixed the previous table and prints again 2 times the table....
DataAdapter1.SelectCommand = Sql2 ''database load
DataAdapter1.Fill(ds2, "products") ''dataset
DataGridView1.DataSource = ds2

The project is a web app in ASP/VB.net. The issue is that some pages are mind-boggingly slow. After trying to track down the bottleneck, it was discovered to be the load method when filling a datatable with query results.
We are using an Oracle database and queries are executed in stored procedures. As an example, we have a relatively simple select statement within a procedure which returns 2 columns with 6 rows which was determined to take about 0.015 seconds to execute. However it takes on average 7 seconds to load the OracleDataReader into a datatable - a ridiculous amount of time for such a small record set. After messing around with the query, I found that a simple decode statement appeared to be causing the issue. The decode statement is used similar to as follows[code]...
The iBln variable is simply a number being passed in to act as a boolean variable for determining which column should be between two dates. If I comment this decode statement out and make it simply "column1 BETWEEN iDate1 and iDate2" then the load method takes no time at all as it should, signifying that it is indeed the decode statement causing issues.

I was wondering if there is any way to load data from excel sheet into a datagridview in VB2008 dynamically. I have looked at few data connection codes but all of them involve the excel sheet and thw workbook name. Is there anyway that I enter the excel sheet name in a inputbox and the data from excel loads into datagridview without hardcoding the sheet name. I know data can be imported using the below code, here the programmer has to mention the excel workbook name, path and sheet name. [code]I am developing a program to perform some calculations and my data is in a number of excel workbooks and worksheets. I need to be able to bring the data from these excel sheets into the datagridview to perform calculations. So I was thinking if I could mention the excel sheet name in the GUI and then accordingly the data from that particular sheet would be loaded into the datagridview to perform calculations.

I have a datagridview which have 5 columns. The name of the columns are T,C,F,S,H.
I have a text file which contain lines like this.
T240C3.175F012S27H2000
T239C0.95F034S55H1000
T236C1.2F029S48H2000
T234C1.6F029S48H2000
So i want to display this data in datagried view. I must display the number beside T to T column, the number beside C to C column and so on. It should only display number in the respective column. It should not display the T,C and so on.

I wrote last week about a problem with an MDI program that had a large number of forms (each with a large number of controls on it) that was "sluggish" in loading and in switching between the child forms.I've attached an example program in VS2008 (though the actual app is VB2010)Rather than show the hardware control application with all of the text fields, and picture boxes acting as indicators, I made a simple program to show the point. This is exaggerated as this just loads 2000 or so text boxes on a form. In the real app I have ~ 200 assorted controls per form of picture boxes, scroll bars, text boxes, labels etc. Also, there is a large full screen .jpeg as the back ground of each form. All are generated at run time and are placed on the form in the New call of each form. (as in the sample attached)main issue seems to be the methodology I use to switch between child forms. I make the current form .visible = false, and the next.visible = true. I have used this as it "keeps the place" on each page if the user has scrolled or is looking at one section of the form. When the next form .visible = true happens I see the controls added in a "machine gun" fashion instead of all at once.

All I want is to update the selected row data in form1 to another form2
Form1 Objects
Form1 = MainAppForm
DataGridView = DGVMain <= binded
Button = btnUpdate
Form2 Objects
Form2 = frmUpdate
Button = btnSubmit
15 textBoxes = you can see its name in the code below and all of them are data binded
MainAppForm Code
Pass the selectedrow data to form2 (frmUpdate)
Private Sub btnUpdateDouble_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUpdate.Click
If DGVMain.SelectedRows.Count = 1 Then
Try
frmUpdate.ItemIDTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(0).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.PartTypeTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(1).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.PartNameValueTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(2).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.PackageTypeTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(3).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.QuantityTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(4).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.UnitTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(5).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.DescriptionTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(6).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.LocationTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(7).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.ProjectBoardTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(8).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.CommentsTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(9).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.OrderCodeTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(10).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.CurrencyTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(11).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.UnitPriceTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(12).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.SupplierTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(13).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.ManufacturerTextBox.Text = DGVMain.CurrentRow.Cells(14).Value.ToString()
frmUpdate.Show()
Catch ex As Exception
System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(ex.Message)
End Try
ElseIf DGVMain.SelectedRows.Count = 0 Then
MsgBox("Please select one item to update!", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Update")
Else
MsgBox("Updating multiple Items is not allowed!", MsgBoxStyle.Information, "Update")
End If
End Sub
Form2 Code
I want to update the data by this code, but it refresh only the data in Form1
Private Sub btnSubmit_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSubmit.Click
Me.Validate()
Me.SparePartsBindingSource.EndEdit()
Me.SparePartsTableAdapter.Update(Me.InventoryDBDataSet.SpareParts)
'Refresh
MainAppForm.SparePartsTableAdapter.Fill(MainAppForm.InventoryDBDataSet.SpareParts)
End Sub
No problem in updating the data if I put the code below in Form2 load event
Me.SparePartsTableAdapter.Fill(InventoryDBDataSet.SpareParts)
but the problem is, it will refresh all the data in the Form2, and my code in Form1 becomes useless.
Thanks in advance!

easy way to simply load the data from database into a datagridview with one of the columns being a comboboxcolumn. Apparently there is no selectedvalue, selectedindex or value as in a combobox to return the combobox value. What I need is to verify if the database value is 'true' and if it is then I need to set the comboboxcolumn with a specific value.
Ex:
if ds.tables(0).rows(0)("flag") = "true" then
datagridcolumn.selectedvalue = 1
else
datagridcolumn.selectedvalue = 0
end if

I have a DataGridView that I'd like to load with data that I'm retrieving from a SQLDataReader running in a background worker as the data comes in (it's a query that takes a long time). My goal is for the user experience to be similar to searching for a file in Windows where the results appear in the list as they come in and you can still interact with the window.
I have it working with a background worker and data reader and I'm trying to add the row from the SQLDataReader.Read through using the BackgroundWorker.ReportProgress method. Everything technically works but the flicker is crazy and the form is unusable (probably not because the GUI thread is blocked but just because there's so much going on...) How do I make loading the datagridview "smooth"?

I have searched the web and this site for an answer but have not been able to solve this problem.I am not able to place a flashing cursor in a specified cell of a data bound DataGridView on Form_Load.My test project consists of a single Visual Basic 2008 form with a database created in Microsoft SQL Express 2005 using the Add New Data Source in the Data Sources window.The database has one table consisting of 2 columns.Column 1 being the primary key with Identity Specification set to On.The second column is a VarChar50.The DataGridView was placed on the form by dragging it from the Data Sources window thereby creating the Binding Navigator and the Private_Sub Form_Load code.I have added the code that should put the cursor where I want it.[code]

I'm using a DataGridView to load data from a DataTable. This DataGridView is located on a tab (Forms.TabPage). When clicking this tab the datagrid takes a second or two to draw from the top down, regardless of wheather data is being loaded or not. Is there anything I can do to speed up the DrawingRendering when clicking the Tab?I Don't think the actual population of the DGV is causing this, as it's filled during form load so by the time the tabs click it would have loaded the few rows (20 - 30) it displays.

I've got a pretty big datagridview that I have to populate, and it's already (with not loads of data) taking quite a long time to populate. I can't imagine it's possible in my situation to bind the datagridview to the data I want to populate, but here is the situation.
I want the column headers along the top to be a bunch of users, which I have in one data table. I want the row headers along the side to be skill names, whihc I have in another data table, and the data in the middle is the score of each user for each skill in data table 3. Some users don't have a score, some do.
The way I have achieved this at present is to create the columns first using data table 1, then for each skill (data table 2), create an array of rows from data table 3 that match the skill, find the matching user (ColumnIndex) for each of these rows, and fill in the score.

A DataGridView in my VB.NET 2008 program contains over 15,000 rows. I loop through the rows, totalling groups of rows and appending 'total rows' and one 'Final total row' to the DataGridView. That works fine. I want to initially hide all rows except for the total rows, giving the user the option to show all 'detail' rows. If i place the statement << dgvTitleCounts.Rows(intRow).Visible = False >> in the loop, execution time increases by three minutes and that is unacceptable.
I see two options: (1) find a faster way of making all rows invisible; and (2) place the total rows in a separate DataSet and bound DataGridView.

The following snip of simple code runs pretty slow on my computer, and I suspect that it is due to excessive memory usage, since the program reports using >1GB mem according to TaskManager. Am I using the DataGridView in a wrong way? Instructions: Make a windowsforms application and put 2x button and 1xDataGridView on it. Push button1 and then button2 - sort the data in the DataGridView by a different col and push button2 again. It'll go above 1GB mem usage! Basically I need to display a lot of data to a user and allow the user to sort the data and generate something from them.
