I am creating a button to save text files (Visual Basic 2005 and Windows XP). I made the following loop to give a default name for the file before saving:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
'This loop is supposed to name the file "file10.txt", and if such a file exists it is
supposed to name it "file20.txt" then "file30.txt" etc.
Dim myFileName As String
Dim i As Integer = 10
myFileName = "D:filesfile" & i & ".txt"[code].....
However, the app gets unresponsive only after one round in the loop (when the file name is "file20"). The loop gets stuck at the following line:
If IO.File.Exists(myFileName) = True Then
This line works only once and after that it becomes unresponsive.
How do I make a program a default program for a file? As in if I had just a basic .txt file editor, I could make the program the default program for the extension .txt. I have tried just doing it in Default Programs, in Windows 7, and Windows XP. But when you click on the file it opens the program, but does not load the file. I plan on actually releasing the beta 2 a Office Suite I created.
I am developing with VS2010 VB.Net and a SQL '08 dbase. I have a DateTimePicker control that by default displays the current date. If you ignore the DTP control and accept what the default is and save the record, in the database table, the value for the date is 'NULL'. I delete the record out of the database and re-create the record in the UI, but this time, I click on the DTP control and actually click my mouse on the current date or any date and then save the entry and it saves to the database properly. I guess what I am after is if a user instantiates the UI form to perform data entry and accepts the current date in the DTP control without clicking on the control, the value is saved properly to the database.
within my project i need to open and save some files. i wont go into detail as theres no need. what i need to do is open the files from the install directory, which could be where ever the user puts it! i also need to be able to open them whilst im building too. if i hard code the directory in then it will fail..obviously
I am constructing a program, i am new to Visual Basic, but i have past programming experience. I was wondering if anyone knew how to form a loop that could...lets say calculate the answer when two numbers are added together, and it would repeat this thousands of times, etc. And if there is a way, would it be possible to calculate the time taken to complete this loop.
Currently I am saving data from my applications by saving a text file via a stream reader as a string. I have come to a problem. In my current application, I have an array of the following structure:
I would like to be able to save to a db and send task to email or as text msg for instance nevermind that.. I have two variables of type ArrayList they are "_mList1" , "_mList2" and "_mList3"
_mList1 stores the list of Telephonenumbers , _mList2 stores the list of StaffIDs and _mList3 Some concatenated string.
theses variable lists will hold some data in runtime as explained and i would like to use them to populate a DB table again mentioned
I have an insert statement which works fine but before the record is saved I want to validate the text boxes. So I just need to know how to check for empty text boxes before the save button is clicked on. I have seen a couple of examples like:
Dim ctr As TextBox If ctr.Text = vbNullString Then MsgBox("empty box")
A few years ago I have been busy creating this application but it didn't succeed, now Im coming back to it and similar problems occur. Basically I use SetPixel on a given window to draw a line, work fine, but the line goes away as the window redraws itself. The problem: I have been putting timers and threads on it to make sure the line is being drawn. Is there any way to make a loop to make a certain thing happen about 10-30 times without taking in too much memory/CPU?
What are the steps to create a Default Value for a ComboBox? say you have two items "Enabled" and Disabled" and you want one of them to be the default value that is selected.
i make a web browser program. how do i make default my web browser program? simple. if internet explorer is default, all web pages start automaticly with internet explorer. how do i make default my web browser program with VB code?
I've done a webbrowser and I want to make it mi default webbrowser and .html viewer. I've found a registry modification, but, when I try to implement a registry modification code, my webbrowser requires to be ran in admin mode. Can I implement a code that doesn't requires admin (like firefox - when you want to make it default browser, it doesn't requires to be ran in admin)?
I come from using REAL Studio (formerly REALbasic)on the Mac + Windows.I just got MS Visual Studio and I am using the "Basic" language part of VS. in REAL Studio there is a property pane where you can select a button and make it the default button.I looked at the property pane in Visual Studio and couldn't figure out how to make one of my buttons the default button.
I have aspx form with several textboxes. They are populated with values from a table via retrieval of a dataview. If the row count for the dataview is 0, then I'd like to reset the values in all textboxes. How can I loop through all the textboxes and set a default value?I've tried the following, but no sucess.
For Each ctrl As Control In Page.Form.Controls If TypeOf ctrl Is WebControls.TextBox Then CType(ctrl, WebControls.TextBox).Text = "" End If Next
My first For Loop was using Page.Controls but it returned only 1 count. The textboxes are inside a tabpanel (ajax), so do I have to locate the tabpage and then find all it's controls (for each tabpage)?
i am making a webbrowser and i have coded over 10,000 lines of code & i am only 11 and self taught .

I'm making a manually started screen-saver-esque program, and I need the "Black screen" form to be full screen, totally black and border-less.
I have so far managed to fix the last two criterea with changing the border style and form back color, but how do I make the form default full-screen?
The only settings I could find were things like "Manual" and "Center Parent". I'm probably just missing something obvious, but how do I make the form full-screen by default?
How do I make the default modelbinding handle Lists?
Let's say I have a ShoppingCart class, which has a ShoppingCartItem List:
Public Class ShoppingCart Public Property CouponCode As String Public Property Items As New List(Of ShoppingCartItem) End Class
[Code]....
However, when I submit the page, no values are picked up, not even the CouponCode field. The model object is empty. What gives?
Ultimately, my goal is to add/remove items clientside via javascript and then have the modelbinder pick up the changes automatically when the page is submitted.
Update: I was just missing the Property keyword from my model properties declarations. It's too late, and I got to get some sleep. :)
Is there any way to make the webbrowser control in vb.net open new window links in the users default browser, it currently opens all links in IE even though my default browser is firefox??
