I created a server-client application using the asynchronous socket. I found the problem when closing a socket on the server, applications so closed. The procedure that I do to close the socket server is:
Terminate the listening thread. Close the client socket is still connected to the server. Close the server socket.
How to prevent the application is closed, when I close the server socket?
Protected Friend Sub CloseServerSocket(ByVal IPAddress As IPAddress, ByVal socketPort As Integer)
' Terminate the listening thread.

Sub Month()
Dim Conn As New Data.OracleClient.OracleConnection
Conn.Open()

What will happen to the datareader when the Connection is closed ( Conn.close)
Will the Cursor that is used by the datareader be freed ? or will it stay open ?
If the cursor that is used by the datareader is still open , when will it be automatically closed ? or should i just closed it manually ?
Will it cause the dreaded "ORA-01000: maximum open cursors exceeded" ?

I am trying to create a locked down browser for the employees at my work to use at a kiosk. I need to prevent the user from getting out of the app. I have figured out how to prevent them from closing it by pressing alt-f4 or ctrl-f4 but I would like to also prevent alt-esc, ctrl-esc, alt-tab, and the windows key. I am new to windows application development but have experience in web vb.net. I am using VB.NET 2010 express.

I have a Visual Studio 2008-SQL Server 2005 app that will be throwing alot at it. It's my testbed learning app. I'm also a student of this craft(43 years young) like another poster posted on another thread. I come from a PICK/BASIC jBase background. Anyway as-is my app has a connection to the database that is opened on form load. I close the connection on form close. It's a one form app currently. Is this wrong? It seems that maybe I should not have a connection opened possibly all day. I'm looking into incorporating Datasets, dataAdapters into my next phase of evolution. I looked at the material and it's tough. For me anyway. But I will get into it. I will fetch the data into a dataset so that I can keep the connection open only for a little while. I was turned on to this "keep the connection just as long as you need it" idea from someth

View 5 RepliesI am currently programming in Visual Studio 2010 within VB.NET and am using DevExpress v10.2. I just started programming with the WinForms XtraGrid FindPanel and so far it works wonders. However I was wondering if there is any way to know when the user closes the FindPanel. Right now if gridview.OptionsFind.AllowFindPanel is True and gridview.OptionsFind.AlwaysVisible is False then the user is able to click on the x and close the FindPanel. Is there anyway to catch this closing? I don't want to stop it just do a couple of things once it is hidden or closed.

I have two message boxes one after another.

on my program that im making when closing the app by on my app it is file then exit and it executes Application.Exit()
which works fine but if i exit the program by the x mark in the top right corner it closes the app but the apps name is still in task manager and if i re run it there is 2 instances of my app running so basically it closes the app but it leaves in in the memory i believe can anyone explain why this is happening and a solution because it makes no sense to me because that it part of windows itself not my programming so i don't understand it at all.
I have an application that uses a NotifyIcon in the tray to hide/restore the application, as well as pop up notices to the user of application events. My application has a notification queue, and I use the NotificationIcon.BalloonTipClosed event to determine when to reset the balloon and show the next notification (if there's one in the queue).
This method seems to work great in both usual causes (user lets the balloon close itself when it times out, and user clicks "X" in balloon to force it to close), but there's a third case where BalloonTipClosed doesn't get called:Notification balloon pops up While it's visible, user right-clicks on notification icon to bring up context menu, causing the balloon to disappear
The BalloonTipClosed event doesn't get triggered in this instance - I figure it's a bug in the framework (I'm using 2.0), but does anybody have an idea around this? If I don't get this event, my application always thinks there's a balloon visible (I have a boolean that prevents it from displaying multiple balloons at once), and it will never show another icon again, as long as it's running.

I want to display photos of people when the mouse passes over their name. I wanted to be able to size the picture box to be proportional to the various photographs and let the Stretch property handle the rest.I used the code above offered by John Wein to a question from 2009 to read the dimension of the picture It worked fine until I pass over the same person twice. Then I get an error that the file is in use by another process.I tried adding:
"BR.Close"
With and without
"BR.Dispose"
But the file is still locked-out on the second pass. I tried setting "PictureBox.Image = Nothing" when the mouse leaves the square, still the file is seen as in use and locked.
At the moment I am making a web browser, and I have a problem in which if all of the tabs are closed, the web browser crashes.
