Making An Application Install To Be Used By Mutliple Users?
May 30, 2009
I created a simple application that when a user logons onto their Windows account, the application pops up to display the computer usage agreement.آ The user at this time has the option of accepting it or declining it. If declined they are logged out of windows, and if they accept they can continue using windows. When I installed the application logged on as the administrator, it only installed in the administrator profile, thus not allowing the application to be run from startup under any other account except admin.آ My first question is, how can I install this application that is it accessible to all user accounts? The second question is how can I program the application to freeze windows until the user clicks the accept button, without puting a timer event that if the accept button is not clicked in a certain amount of time to log off the user.

I wanted to know how I can make a stand alone exe without making the user install the application. So that the program can be ran from a disk or flash drive. Currently I can run it just fine on the PCs, I'm developing it on. But when I take it to another, that has the targeted framework, it crashes.

1.Id like to publish a free vb.net desktop application for the users to download and use meanwhile Id like to collect usage information ex: user ip address, users registration information, used features, time spent if the user allows the report to be sent back.
2.Also , in order for the user to be able to use the application, hell have to register it then, everytime, before the application loads, it gets verified online that it was registered, maybe validate the registration information or a valid user name and password, no critical personal information. The target of this step is for the application to be used exclusively by the registered user and maybe on his computer only.

I'm making a setup project for my application. I have a file, dbconnection.xml, that I want to be installed to C:Program filesmyAppdbconnection.xml regardless of where the user chooses to install the application. I've added the program files 'special folder' and have a subfolder, myApp, under that where I place this xml file.
For whatever reason, no matter where the user installs the application to, the XML file is placed in the install directory, not in c:program filesmyApp.

I have designed and published my small created app with WINDOWS FORMS using VB 2010 EXP on Windows 7. I can only install the app on the machine that I used to develop the app.I want to install the app on another computer but I cannot. I usually have error reports.
Example:Unable to install or run this application. This application requires Microsoft Common Language Runtime 4.0.3 to be installed on your computer.
what can I do to be able to install the app on a different computer which does not have .Net and does not have visual basic 2010 installed.

I am converting an ASP.Net web forms project to MVC3. The master page contains multiple content place holders at different locations.I replaced the first content place holder with @RenderBody() but I am confused with what to do of the second one.
One approach might be to separate views and place a @Html.RenderAction() for each content place holder method.

I have a lot of forms set up, probably about 10-15 so far (more to come). Some forms 'lay' on top of other forms, and each form contains multiple controls. I am discovering that my approach is not very likely to succeed in what I am thinking of doing.
Here is one example: LeftControlPanel form contains 5 controls, but 5 other forms 'lay' on top of it and use transparencies to load up bitmaps. Since I cannot parent the forms that 'lay' on top of the form, I cannot figure out a good way to move them.Is it logical that when I move LeftControlPanel to a different x location, I would just move all the forms that 'lay' on top of them as well?Seems like a clunky approach of moving one form since parenting the transparency forms will remove all the transparencies that are set up...
Is there a bit better logic I might be missing, or bite the bullet and start moving multiple forms at once?

i am wondering if there are any case studies / white papers available comparing web applications to remote desktop applications on running on comparable hardware? What I am trying to get at is if a web application can support more users, as far as hardware resources go, than the same windows based application running on terminal services?

I've created a news ticker control, which reads from RSS feeds and scrolls the text Horizontally. The plan is to have 3 of these on my Windows form, which will each display their own information.
The control is created as a label, which is populated with the text, and then scrolls right to left using a timer, once the label gets to the end of the text, and disappears of the left side, the rss is re-read, and then the cycle resumes. The problem is that with multiple copies of this controls on my form, once one gets to the end of it's run, all three freeze while the rss is reread, rather than just the control that needs to do it.
Is there a way to run each of these controls independently (threading?)? Or is there a glitch in my code causing this? (below - some elements not included, but it should be fairly obvious what is happening!)

I am very new to VB.NET. That said, I have developed a windows form that utilizes an SQL Server back end. I am developing using Visual Studio 2008 and the 3.5 Framework. The SQL server is 2005.I do not have any warnings or errors, and the project compiles without error. When I run the install package on another computer, everything appears to install correctly, and the shortcut is placed on the desktop. However, when opened, the cursor goes into wait mode for a few seconds then returns to normal and the form does not open.I am using windows authentication for the SQL server, and the user of the other computer is the owner of the database I am developing for, so that person has access. I am using the following when making a connection to the SQL server: Dim cnnSQL As New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(My.Settings.ConnectionString)

The publish folder contains three items.
A folder titled 'Application Files' A file which is after application named followed by the extension of 'application'A file titled setup.exe
I expected that I would only have setup.exe. Or is this how things go with Visual Studio 2010? Anyway, if I take this package to another computer and double-click on setup.exe, the application will be installed at the following path:
C:Users(account name)AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsMicrosoft
Is that an appropriate path where an application should be installed? How can I make it so that the application will be installed at C:Program Files(application name) ?

I am trying to figure out what all the files do so that I can use Inno Setup to create an installer. y plan was to install all the files to a temp folder. Then run setup.exe.However, I was not sure what to do about the uninstaller? Inno will want to uninstall as well, which I think I can have it run a file on uninstall. So I was thinking maybe I should put some or all of the files into a permanent folder instead of
setup.exe
