I would like to do something like the following:
Public Class Form1
Public Event Evt1(ByVal c As c1)
Public Event Evt2(ByVal c As c2)
[code]...
However, it seems to be invalid syntax, as the signature of OnEvt1OrEvt2 doesn't match that of Evt2.
Edit: The above code seems to work fine for everyone but me, but it doesn't compile for me in VS2005 SP1.The error message is something like:Error BC31029: The method 'Private Sub OnEvt1OrEvt2(c As WindowsApplication1.c1)' can not handle the event 'Public Event Evt2(c As WindowsApplication1.c2)' because the signatures do not match.

I am using some interesting code to perform dynamic unmanaged dll calling:[code]I want to be able to change the parameter signature and type of the delegate to void or to a function returning integer, string, or boolean.Basically, I want my program (interpreter) to be able to call upon any method in any unmanaged dll that the programmer has access to since I cannot predict what method the programmer will want to have access to - I'd like to enable them to have access to any useful method.[code]This raises a complaint on the line with 'Dim theResult = ' on it. The error is "Object of type 'System.Int32' cannot be converted to type 'System.Object[]'."

for the past >8 years i was doing VB / VB.Net work now I'm jumping into C# world, so far it's very easy only thing that I find difficult is the fact that the signature of every events on object are not automatically created for me.I'm used to select the object name in the left dropdown in the code view and then the event that I want in the right dropdown.is there something similar to that in C#? if yes where can i find it, I really wish I don't have to write them by hand...

I fully realize that what I am proposing does not follow the .NET guidelines, and, therefore, is probably a poor idea for this reason alone. However, I would like to consider this from two possible perspectives:
(1) Should I consider using this for my own development work, which is 100% for internal purposes.
(2) Is this a concept that the framework designers could consider changing or updating?
I am thinking about using an event signature that utilizes a strong typed 'sender', instead of typing it as 'object', which is the current .NET design pattern. That is, instead of using a standard event signature that looks like this:

I'm using a third party grid control which I took and inherited to create some custom properties and events to it. Now when I tried to use this custom control on one of my forms one of the Events that I try to use keeps giving me an error and saying that the signature of the event does not match. It's only for this particular event and it doesn't give me the problem on every form I use this control on. To fix the problem, I constantly have to clean/rebuild the project with the custom grid control and then clean/build the project using the grid control. I'm using VS 2005 and the grid control I'm using is called iGrid.NET made by a company called 10Tec.
The exact error I get is below.
Method 'Private Sub iGridFlightInfo_BeforeCommitEdit(sender As Object, e As TenTec.Windows.iGridLib.iGBeforeCommitEditEventArgs)' cannot handle Event 'Public Event BeforeCommitEdit(sender As Object, e As TenTec.Windows.iGridLib.iGBeforeCommitEditEventArgs)' because they do not have the same signature.

I'm planning on using the Smart Device Framework 2.3 to use the signature control panel in a Windows Mobile 5 application using the compact framework 3.5.
The control has the option to save the signature as either a byte array of points, or as a bitmap. Now seeing as I want to store the signature in a sql compact database, I guess the byte array is going to be better. The trouble is, I'm not sure how to render that in a full WinForms application after I've transferred it back to the desktop.
I need to show the signature on a report, so it would need to be an image I could link/embed into the report.

is it allowed to use more than one Sub to handle the same event ? For example , may I have 2 separate subs to handle the Load event of a form ? Will they fight each other ?I have tested it and it seems to work fine , nevertheless I thought I'd ask you . In case you wonder , there is no great deal , I just want to copy the same lines of code in more forms so I am doing it just in favor of the looking aspect .

I've been watching the ASP.NET MVC Storefront video series again and saw something that I've never noticed or payed any attention to before. I noticed there were a lot of references to this in the signature lists of various methods. Here is an example of one:
public static Category WithCategoryName(this IList<Category> list, string categoryName) {
return (from s in list
where s.Name.Equals(categoryName, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)
[code]....
First of all, I'm not totally sure why <System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Extension> _ was included, maybe it's just the converter, nevertheless, as you can see, this wasn't converted into anything that I can tell unless it has to do with the aforementioned <System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Extension> _.What does this actually refer to and/or do in the C# method signature?Is there a VB.NET equivalent?
So we've definitely clarified that this does in fact denote an extension method and that from the answers given, it seems there's no inline VB equivalent. I would like to add that since I mentioned the ASP.NET MVC Storefront video, the C# example above was pulled from his CategoryFilters class. I assume this is how you implement what was referenced as a pipes and filters or pipeline methodology.I assume VB.NET's way of handling extension methods is something like this for example:
Imports System.Runtime.CompilerServices
Public Module StringExtensions
<Extension()> _

I want to force a calling method to implement exception handling.
Java forces a calling method to implement exception handling where it calls another method that thorws an exception.
Does VB.Net have the same mechanism?

[code]But even here it seems the handler isn't registered until after New has completed.However, in real life the event is raised within code that's semantically part of the object initialisation, and I'd really rather not have to create some Initialize function.

I have been reading up on this, but I can't get it to work for me. I am reading in comma delimited text into a three-column datagridview control. The third column is a combo box which only accepts certian values. If the data being imported into col 3 is not in the combo box list I get an error that tells me to handle the data error event.trying to capture that error and get rid of the default error message box. I am working with a Try/Catch statement, but it doesn't seem do anything.

stringLine = fileReader.ReadLine()
If Not stringLine.StartsWith("'") And Trim(stringLine) <> "" Then

I must be missing something really basic, but I just can't figure this out. I have a module (declared as a Module, i.e. a VB "static class") and I have an event declared in it, and places to raise the event. But I can't figure out how to handle the event.
Let's call the module MyModule with an even MyEvent. Like so:

Public Event CallHelp()
Sub ExamineStuff( ByVal input As String)

I have a mouse click event for one of my controls. I then change the text of that control to something. I also have several other textboxes and want to do the same. How can this be done? I thought maybe this:-
Private Sub txtTitle_MouseClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles txtTitle.MouseClick, txtTitle2.MouseClick
End Sub
My problem is how do I determine which has triggered the event (title1 or title2).

I use VB.NET 2010 I have created a user control which holds a few textboxes, where the user can find articles. This user control is added to several Forms (where ever the search is needed). I have to handle the key down event of the user control, but it isn't working... The usercontrols's Key_Down Event is never fired. - I have set KeyPreview of the form to true, then the Key_Down of the Form is fired.

I cannot Unresolve a post.I have a datagridview control with a combo box. The user loads data from a file into the control. If there are errors (the element in the combo box column is not in the combo box list) I would like to:
1. capture the row in which the error occurred, and store it in code/memory
2. change the cell backround to red (this is not that important)
3. continue without a message at the time of the error
4. post a message with all of the errors after the load is complete
I am using the code staight out of the Microsoft example to try to figure how to do this, but it is not posting any messages when I load bad data, so I am not getting any smarter from the example.[code]

I am using the Event Handler below for the Enter Key Press Event, it is running when ever any of the keys is pressed. This is not so much a problem when the app. is running, unnecessary yes. It is giving me problems when ever I am Debugging using Breakpoints. How can I change the Handler so it only runs when the Enter Key is Pressed, doing away with the If statement?

If e.KeyChar = Chr(Keys.Enter) Then

I have an event in a module, like this:
vb.net
Module Module1 Public Event Event1(Value as Boolean)End Module
I want to be able to handle this event from different forms. This is what I tried to do...
vb.net
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Event1Handler(Value As Boolean) Handles WindowsApplication1.Event1 End SubEnd Class
But I get a squiggly line under WindowsApplication1 that says Handles clause requires a WithEvents variable defined in the containing type or one of its base types. I tried to swap Module1 in, but same thing. I tried without anything in front of Event1, but still nothing.
