I basically need to hold a lot of data - the structure is that of a five dimensional array holding integers.What would be the most efficient way of storing this in a file (I was thinking of XML - your opinion?) that would also be quick to extract.

There is a system that needs to POST data to my site and all they asked for is for me to provide them with a URL. So I gave them my URL [URL]
Now I do not know exactly how they POST it but now on my Test.aspx page I need to write code that will save that data to a database.

I have a simple multithread application that stores updated data from a list of websites. After each thread gathers data, it then store the data into the same text file. I am now thinking of having each thread store the data directly into a arrayList, and after a certain amount of time past, store from the arrayList to the text file. Which situation would enable the application to complete its task faster?

Here is the code I used to store an image in my database (SQL Server 2008 R2) using VB 2010. The images get stored but the problem is the clarity of the image is lost when retrieved and seen in a picture box.

I have an application which saves contacts from Outlook/Csv onto a disk, from a Treeview. Now I want to provide security for this file. I want to provide encryption using AES algorithm to the file before it is saved on the disk. My problem here is how I encrypt it before saving the contents from the treeview into the file on the disk. Also I want to decrypt the file contents and load treeview if i find the file is encrypted.

View 6 RepliesIs there a way to set session variables during login that are then available to reports? We have a reporting services server where we move and denormalize data from our transaction system for reporting purposes. In order to allow our users to login with the same user name and password from the transactional system we have set up custom forms authentication and after much trial and error it is finally working. In addition we have the authorization accessing our transactional system so that any changes in user authority is immediately reflected in Reporting Services.
Our problem now is that we would like to add some additional features such as locking down parameters depending on user authority/groups in our transactional system. We have found a way to do it but it's inefficient, basically we have stored procedures that will query our transactional system to check for access. The problem is that these queries will often be run for every report request even though the answer is unlikely to change. It would be nice to have access to session level data that can be set once during log in and then accessed from the reports.
Basically, I want to have a database that's lightweight and I won't need to install amillion other things on my clients computers for them to access this.I just need a simple method of reading and writing values so that they're not hardcoded into the program. I could do MySQL (which is what I'm very familiar with), but it doesn't need to be making calls remotely.

View 2 RepliesI need to find a method of looping through a listbox and retrieving the index number and values - quite straightforward in asp, but turning out to be something of a nightmare in winforms!Here is the scenario - The user can add values in a textbox, that are in turn added to a DataTable that gives it a unique ID and a row number, this is then bound to the listbox. The user can then move the items up or down the list by adjusting the row number in the datatable and rebinding to the listbox..
The problem that I am hitting is when the user needs to delete an item -the first part is easy - delete from the DataTable and rebind to the listbox. The bit where I hit the proverbial brick wall is needing to loop through the listbox rows and getting both the index number and the ValueMember - that way I can change the row numbers in the DataTable based on the index number against the ID number.
I am reading data from a socket (as bytes) and storing this data in a string. Then later i need to access specific bytes within the string and do some math with them. However the bytes that I read back from the string are not what I am expecting.

I've linked the two using the standard data sourcing method and I now need to use the data that is read in to it on another form. The idea of this is that I'm creating a wage calculator and the employees are stored in a database and can be viewed on a vb form, however, I now need to use the data of their pay/hr to be used on another form to calculate the wage.I have tried to declare a public variable across the two separate forms, and on the button that takes you to the other to set this variable as the contents of the text box which is displaying the pay/hr using the following

I'm trying to learn visual basic and i've made my application all work and now I just need to make the listview save data.As far as I know, I can create a database with all the relavent tables in it for each column in the listview. For example in a database, I will have a table that will have four columns because I have a four column listview. Each row must be tied together though.
The other option is to create a text file and use some xml or seperate them with commas. which one should I go with? I'd rather do the database one, but I really have no idea how to go about it.

How can I get it to send the old changes and the new changes. I know I will need to somehow temp store the old values to use them in the email, but I can't figure out how to do it. On first run it shows the result of Data3 = 100 which is currect. But on second run I need to redefine the value of Data2 = Data1 . So I need a result of Data3 = 0 on second run. This may not be the proper way to do this sort of operation. I have also tried using listbox, listview and even textfile to store the Data2 and recall that on second run. But could not make it possible.
This is the last phase of my tool and I am stuck with it.
What SQL Server data type should be used to store RichTextBox text? The reason I ask is because the BOL indicates not to use text or ntext anymore because these data types will be excluded from future versions of SQL Server.

Type of animal | Color | Age
Cat, Brown, 15

I only want to compare the type of the animal and the color and age is irrelevant.I want it to let me know whats missing and what's been added.Sounds bizarre but yeah. It doesn't need to be arrays, it's the only thing i know of though.
