Microsoft.VB.Now Vs System.DateTime.Now

Oct 8, 2010

Is there any difference between using the Microsoft.VisualBasic.DateAndTime.Now compared to the System.DateTime.Now? I seem to remember reading something that said the MS.VB namespace was for legacy use only, and was much slower than using the native .net classes.

Match A Certain DateTime Value With Current System DateTime

May 7, 2010

I'm trying to match a certain DateTime value with the current system DateTime. I have a timer and a label on a form. Timer interval is set to 1000. When the form loads, the timer starts ticking. As soon as the current DateTime matches the value of the variable, it shows a message in the label. When I'm writing the following code, the values don't match even if the current system DateTime is equal to the variable. Label1 isn't showing 'Times Matched':[code]The default format of 'Now' is the same as I have stored in dtmVar variable. So there's no question of format mismatch. Does that mean 'Now' is not actually a DateTime property? Provided, my O.S. is Windows Vista Ultimate and all date/time settings are set to default.

Match A Certain DateTime Value With The Current System DateTime?

When I'm writing the following code, the values don't match even if the current system DateTime is equal to the variable. Label1 isn't showing 'Times Matched':

Private Sub Timer1_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer1.Tick
Dim dtmNow As DateTime

[Code]....

Why is it so? The default format of 'Now' is the same as I have stored in dtmVar variable. So there's no question of format mismatch. Does that mean 'Now' is not actually a DateTime property? Provided, my O.S. is Windows Vista Ultimate and all date/time settings are set to default.

Big Endian Values Into And Outfrom System.DateTime

Jul 26, 2011

I'm working on a project that's going to be deployed via .NET on Windows and via Mono on Linux; the same data needs to be exchangeable between the platforms, including where platform A is Little-Endian and platform B is Big-Endian.Where text is concerned, I know ASCII/Unicode is natively Big-Endian, so there's no problem with that.Where numbers are concerned, I know that byte arrays have to be reversed on Big-Endian platforms to store the data in Little-Endian format. But what exactly is the 64 bit value output from System. Date Time.ToBinary? Is this a number representing the number of seconds elapsed since Jan 1 1970, is this some kind of serialized attribute that outputs some DotNET-recognizable value, or what?Does this byte array need to be handled differently in Big and Little Endian environments? It never hurts to try. In a worst case scenario, you'll learn from it.

Wpf - Microsoft Script Control - Blocking Scripts' Access To The System?

Nov 4, 2011

I am developing a commercial VB.net WPF application that needs user generated scripts for controlling the application to be shared between users. The best way that I have come across of accomplishing this so far without writing my own parser is using the Microsoft Script Control.

It would appear that both VBScripts and JScripts run through this control have access to wscript and as a result are too powerful to be shared between programmers and non-technical users for obvious security reasons. I have considered trying to filter out dangerous scripts with some kind of regex parsing or something but that just seems far too risky and easy to circumvent.

So, is there some way of using this control but blocking its access to the system so that it could be used for controlling only the objects that I give it? If not, could someone recommend a better way of doing this?

I do not particularly mind what language the script would be in at this stage, although having multiple options would be nice.EDIT: I am basing my conclusion that the control is too powerful for this on the fact that the following JScript code successfully launches notepad when called using the .AddCode and .Run methods of the control.

Make A Simple 3 Layer System - 3tier Is For A Longtime Complete Misused By Marketing From Microsoft, 3 Tier

May 28, 2010

How to develop a 3 tier soution saying this. If you want to make a simple 3 layer system (3tier is for a longtime complete misused by marketing from Microsoft, 3 tier needs something like a Unix computer) However, do this: start a Windows Form project, then do 2 times File -> Add New -> Project -> Class Library while you name one DataLayer and the other BusinessLayer. While the DataLayer project is selected, you do Add New Item and take the Component (give it the name DataBaseHandling). Then while that component is open. In top Data -> and than what you want to select, however create in fact the DataSet and Adapter in that.

Don't forget to set in your main project a reference using Poject -> Project too your two datalayers. It is easy and don't need all those images, those you will see pasing by doing this. Try to avoid to use your DataLayer in your BusinessLayer which is often done, because then those layers make in fact no sence. i am not an expert The bussiness and datalayer in the same solution really? And when he said: "While the DataLayer project is selected, you do Add New Item and take the Component (give it the name DataBaseHandling)." What kind of component should i choose? and what about the presentation layer? how to call one layer to the other,

IDE :: Toolstrip Dialog Objects Do Not Appear In Component Tray In Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional On A Windows 7 System

Oct 5, 2011

I am running Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a Windows 7 system. While working on a visual basic exercise in chapter 4 of the Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 Step by Step book on the MyMenu program I added a Toolstrip to my form and then I was trying to perform the add OpenFileDialog and ColorDialog controls to the component tray as described at the bottom of page 111 under Using Dialog Box Controls. I could never get the controls to appear in the component tray as instructed in the book.

I added a toolstrip to the form. According to my instructions I should be able to click on the Open file icon on the toolstrip to select it and then click anywhere else on the form. When I do that, the OpenFileDialog should appear on the component tray where I can then select it to enter code. This however does not happen. The only way I was able to get them to appear in the component tray was by opening the Menu program supplied on the DVD under chapter 4, selecting both of the above controls on the component tray, right clicking and then press copy. I then closed the Menu program and opened the MyMenu program that I created and then I was able to paste the two object controls to the component tray.

I went back to the original Menu program to see if I was able to place any other controls on the component tray by following the instructions in the book but was not able to. I also tried the same thing with MyMenu and it also still would not work.I have been unable to find anything that might explain why the component tray does not work as explained. Perhaps there is some setting somewhere that needs changed, but all searches have been unsuccessful.

PS. I have entered this on one of the other MicroSoft forums and although it has gotten multiple views I have not yet received any feedback.I also get the following error: Cannot add component of type 'ToolStripButton' to container of type 'form'.

Error - A First Chance Exception Of Type 'System.Exception' Occurred In Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll

Sep 2, 2009

I have a large project where we have 2-3 dll projects that are converted from VB6 to VB.NET. We have fixed all the issues that caused compilation errors, and most of obvious issues in running, so now we have basically a program up and running. The exe is created from scratch in VB.NET, using a lot of functionality from the converted dll's (including GUI forms). What I wonder is when I run the program in debug mode, I get a bunch of warnings in the "Immediate Window" saying:

A first chance exception of type 'System.Exception' occurred in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll

...and some of other type (but most of them in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll).I was wondering if this is common in projects converted from VB6, or if it is caused by bad design in our code...
