Unzip A Zipped Folder Using Microsoft APIs Or Namespaces Perhaps System.IO.Compression?
Sep 19, 2009
can we unzip a zipped folder using microsoft APIs or namespaces perhaps System.IO.Compression. However, it seems to be cumbersome to use them. With a thrid party dll file it works perfectly fine, however i dont want to use it as we dont know what is actually happening inside. Can we have a piece of code which unzips a zipped folder.

I have the following unzip function which works fine if I have only 1 zipped folder..However, how can update it to accomodate a zipped folder within a zipped folder. Therefore, lets assume you have a folder name A.zip within this folder you have B.zip. Presently, it unzips folder A and leaves folder B zipped. I would like to unzip both A and B folder..
Code:Private Sub unzip(ByVal filename As String, ByVal targetdir As String, ByVal overwrite As Boolean, Optional ByVal password As String = "")
Dim inputStrm As New ZipInputStream(File.OpenRead(filename))
inputStrm.Password = password
[Code]...

I have the following function below, which works fine if you want to Extract a zip file. But, I have a problem, lets take an example, test.zip , which will have a folder within called Download which has txt files. Therefore, when I unzip I receive the Download folder with the files in it. Now, instead I want to unzip the zip folder to create a Test folder and within the Test folder the Download folder which will have all the text files. The function I have does ONLY the Download folder and not the test folder.
Private Sub unzip(ByVal filename As String, ByVal targetdir As String, ByVal overwrite As Boolean, Optional ByVal password As String = "")
Dim inputStrm As New ZipInputStream(File.OpenRead(filename))
inputStrm.Password = password
Dim nextEntry As ZipEntry = inputStrm.GetNextEntry()
[Code] .....

After being spoiled for years with C# automatically setting the default namespace for new classes to match my folder structure, I'm wondering if there is any way to get VB.NET to do the same?
I've been aware for awhile that it doesn't do this automatically but I've never really researched alternatives. keep my VB.NET class namespaces in sync with my project folder structures?

When I right click a file folder, I get an option called Explore on my pop-up menu. It lets me do this for zipped records also. I want to be able to do this programmatically in my Visual Basic program. How do I explore a file folder and expose its contents in a Listbox. How can I do this for a zipped file? If a folder is zipped and contains a list of files in it, can I go into the file and delete the file without having to unzip the folder. Today, I was able to cut files out of a zipped file and paste the individual files somewhere else. Can I do this programmatically?

I have a utility that is a simple exe that is not installed compiled with VS2005 and works well. But when I upgraded to VS2008 the utility can no longer locate files in the active system folder. I have UAC turned off and am logged in as the Administrator and it still can not locate a file that I can see in Windows Explorer. The file I am looking for is PakMgr.exe.

I have a vb .net application where the user can choose a directory into which an excel file is written. If the user selects a system directory (yes, my users do this, don't ask me why) then a System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException is thrown at runtime. I am handling this exception telling the user to please select another directory.

Is there any difference between using the Microsoft.VisualBasic.DateAndTime.Now compared to the System.DateTime.Now? I seem to remember reading something that said the MS.VB namespace was for legacy use only, and was much slower than using the native .net classes.

I am developing a commercial VB.net WPF application that needs user generated scripts for controlling the application to be shared between users. The best way that I have come across of accomplishing this so far without writing my own parser is using the Microsoft Script Control.
It would appear that both VBScripts and JScripts run through this control have access to wscript and as a result are too powerful to be shared between programmers and non-technical users for obvious security reasons. I have considered trying to filter out dangerous scripts with some kind of regex parsing or something but that just seems far too risky and easy to circumvent.
So, is there some way of using this control but blocking its access to the system so that it could be used for controlling only the objects that I give it? If not, could someone recommend a better way of doing this?
I do not particularly mind what language the script would be in at this stage, although having multiple options would be nice.EDIT: I am basing my conclusion that the control is too powerful for this on the fact that the following JScript code successfully launches notepad when called using the .AddCode and .Run methods of the control.

VB.net application crashes without specific error
I developed one application in VB.Net 2010. It worked fine on my laptop. Now when I run this on another PC, it just crashes and give windows error as below.
[CODE]..........................
Along with this.
[CODE]......................
This application required .Net framework 4 & Oracle 9 ODBC drivers, which I installed on new PC.
I am not able to figure out what is the problem exactly, however it seems something with .Net framework itself.

How do I create 7-Zip archives with .NET?
I'm looking for ways to do compression and decompression in 7z format via code in VB.NET and C#. Is there any library or .Net code for this purpose?
I know there are GZipStream and DeflateStream in .Net but I want 7z format for better compression ratio.

I'm currently working on a utility software, file compression, with VB.Net. And using an open source library to compress and decompress files - DotNetZip - and already running.
My friend told to make it unique and not traditional, that I make the output compressed files cannot be opened with other compression software. Now my question is... is it possible that way? Using an open source library which the output format is ".zip"?
I first thought that changing the file extension of the compressed file to unknown format so it can't be opened when you try to decompress it, unfortunately, using the "Open With..." function of windows it could still be decompressed.
Is it really possible? OR what other features can I add that WinZIP doesnt have yet? I compared my work to WinZip since the same output is ".zip".
