I want to create a bandwidth meter for Windows using vb.net, but I cannot seem to find anything in the .net framework for monitoring the amount of data in or out. I want to create this because I cannot find a good one for free, and I think it is something that people might want.If there is nothing in the .net framework for monitoring this, is there some P/Invoke calls I can make? If so, what are they?

I've searched in the forum thread for my needs, and I couldn't find any. So here is my problem. I need to monitor the data passing trough serial communication, between local serial port and some device with an application written in vb.netThe idea is to see the data without opening the port.For example I want to start the program, choose the serial port that I want to monitor, and then to start some other application that opens the serial port, and start to send data. Another device "answers", and I want to see the the sent and received data from the first program, and the process that opens the port.I thought that I can use the serial port event "DataReceived", but actually nothing happens. I think my approach is wrong. CHere is my code:

i have a task to create a TCP Server (a program that is listening on its network card interfaces for incoming data stream).I have search on the internet and i found that i can use two methods : Socket or TCPListener class.I have created an example for Socket class, but i wondering how could i test it? I need to check that if another computer in the network send some string data to the listener computer , then this message should be displayed.Here is the example from microsoft that i am using for TCP Server using Socket:

But it does not work because of the PORT setting.If in the TCP Server i have "Dim localEndPoint As New IPEndPoint(ipAddress, 0)" the client crashes, but if i change the port from any (0) to 11000 for example,the client works fine.Do you know why?

i have encountered a problem, i want to access the data coming to the computer from the in-built bluetooth module of a computer on windows platform, this data has been sent by a remote bluetooth module say a by an autonomous device (just like a bluetooth mouse connecting to the computer). The to be sent is in the form of numbers and i need these to manipulate on the computer.
View 6 RepliesI have written one application which communicate with one data logger unit (temperature monitoring unit) and download records after some interval. Unit continuously send current temperature which I have to show on screen and after each one hour I have to download log (all records saved inside unit at max 1024) from unit.
Now problem is after downloading log, application get hang or what we called working in background and resume after some time. If I pause debugger in visual studio 2008 it show control at application start (sub main) with message as "application will resume here after completing execution of current function". There is nothing in output window. So how can i trace is there any events got spool or what actually application doing in background.
I have sqlserver database in my server folder c:data How can i access this data from other computer with my vb application?

View 4 RepliesI am sending data into VB through a serial port on my computer, from a microcontroller. The data enters VB in an ASCII form, but I need it as a number. I can use the Asc command to convert numbers 0-127 however after this it dosent work. I believe this is becaus the ascii character map only goes through 127. So how can I convert the rest of the data (128-256) to a numbers?

I am busy with a VB2008 EXPRESS program that reads is data via a network cable. Saving the data on the same computer as my program is not a problem, but I must also make this data available to other users in the network and update their screens in real time. In other words I need a COPY of my running program on each networked computer when requested by the user in the network. I have looked at SQL, XML pages and inheritance. The monitored computer would have my program installed and the monitoring computer would display, in a form, the information being sent from the remote client.The application does not send any information regarding packets, user names, passwords, etc. It is solely meant for monitoring CPU performance and Network resources remotely.

I have a desktop computer with a cable connection on the back that allows me to watch TV on the computer using Windows Media Center. I had the idea of writing a program that would access this feed and send it to another computer (laptop) via my network. That way I would be able to watch TV from anywhere that my network spans. I have no idea if this is possible or how I would even do it,
So I have three questions.
1: Is it possible?
2: How would I go about access the feed?
3: How would I send it over the network?
My original thought was doing it in Flash, but I'm not very good at Flash so I wanted to do it in VB.Net.
I have written an application for my family business.
